Well I was watching Never mind the Buzzcocks a while ago and it had Andy Rourke on. He said that the Smiths box set would be released around Decemberish and more importantly said that it would include rarities. The one he noted was a song that was supposed to have a trombone in it. The trombone version didn't make the final cut but it is in the box set. I can't remember what song it is but I do remember it being mentioned in Songs that Saved Your Life so maybe we have some goodies coming our way?

there is a light, correct? or is it frankly, mr. shankly? i'm sure someone will correct me.

let's hope morrissey has a hand in the coverart and marr goes behind the helm and remasters some of the muddy tracks.

I'm almost sure you can do better than that.
Buzzcocks? (Score:0)
I saw that too but Rourke was mostly silent and seemingly uncomfortable with what was happening around him. Don't remember him saying ANYTHING about the box set.

Still, this box is clearly the greatest music release of 2006 and it's not even out yet.

Does Mike Joyce have an accountant standing by to make sure he recieves his fair share of the royalties to this one?

Let's hope he doesn't blow his money this time and resort to to auctioning photos of Morrissey sleeping on the tour bus during the US Queen is Dead Tour!

From someone who seemed in the know, Johnny Marr is pushing for this. Apparently he and Morrissey are considering legal action if Warner's don't pull their fingers out. They might try to get control of the catalogue again.

The person also said the reason Marr is spending time on this is because he is "bored", so it looks like the Healers album is shelved for the moment.

I was at the Billy Childish show in Portland, OR. and during an intermission, this guy's cell rings and he answers with a neat British Accent, I look and it's Johnny Marr. He's been rumoured to have been here for a couple of weeks producing a solo project by Issac Brock, of Modest Mouse, whom he was there with. I walk up and confirm that it's him, and introduce my self, and he asks if I play guitar, I say no, but I work at a record store, and have been a fan since the age of 13. And sometimes I hear talk of rarities and box set, and the like. So I ask him if any of the material isn't "out there" already. He says that sort of... he then tells me that he's involved in the remastering and remixing of the Troy Tate Demo's, and something to do with a recording of the first Smiths show. Needless to say Billy Childish could have played guitar while standing on his head all night, and I might not have noticed.

There will be no box-set. Rourke is just hoping to get some money. Rourke & Joyce are just jealous (and skint) of Morrissey being successful. Poor sods. But what was there they ever did? Nought! Can you imagine Rourke or Joyce as solo-artists? Never.
        Oh, please....

It would really benefit the Smiths' material if the songs were digitally remastered. Hopefully the four proper studio albums will be remastered by Warner as well.

Disc 1 - Troy Tate sessions
Disc 2 - First Smiths gig
Disc 3 - Complete Peel and Jensen sessions
Disc 4 - Alternate takes, rarities, 'Jeane', 'Wonderful Woman', 'I Keep Mine Hidden'.
Disc 5 - Selection of live recordings from various gigs spanning the Smiths' career OR a full concert from the later years, e.g. a superior version of 'Rank'.

            Now THAT would be something.
