I've just heard from the BBC that Morrissey has pulled out of today's (Thursday's) filming of tomorrow's "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross". He was due to pre-record "You Have Killed Me" earlier in the day and do the chat this evening, but has had to withdraw for personal reasons. So he will not be at this evening's recording.

Still, if he's started apologising to people, maybe he'll stop letting people down soon too...

It's great that people are so quick to attack him, maybe he's just having a bad day and would rather not have to go and talk to Jonathan Ross (I wouldn't like to talk to him on a good day, but his wife on the other hand...).

I thought it was peculiar that he was returning to a show that he felt very uncomfortable doing the first time around.

It's like, we all know that Morrissey doesn't turn up quite often for whatever reason. If people want to continue spending large amounts of money trying to track him down halfway across the globe knowing this, well, good luck to them. You've had warning.

Maybe someone got the wrong end of the stick again here; there should be more corroboration by now. • On his radio show he was saying that he and David Attenborough (who was also due to appear on the TV show) would explain to Morrissey how human beings had adapted to eat meat, and that Moz would then finally see the light. If Morrissey had heard, he would've been pretty incensed.

It is a shame though coz You Have Killed Me is picking up very little airplay (even XfM who went bonkers for YRTQ are hardly playing it): only Radio 2 are, and there are so many people who heard about Morrissey for the first time through his Jonathan Ross appearance back in 2004.

  • I was at Television Centre in White City tonight for the recording of the Jonathan Ross show.

After the crap warm-up guy and a song by "Four Poofs And A Piano," Wossy himself did a couple of minutes of warm-up. He asked who was here to see Morrissey, which was met with a couple of whoops from the crowd.

He then said "...the miserable cunt has cancelled." And he reported Moz being "fluey." He also stated that Morrissey has pulled out of other things, including Top Of The Pops.

In Morrissey's place on the show, was some 24 year-old Welsh rugby guy, who could barely string a sentence together. It's the guy who's going out with Charlotte Church.

However, Wossy did say that he wants to get Morrissey back on the show later in the series, describing him as something like "one of the greatest songwriters this country has produced." A bit hypocritical, since he had earlier described him as a "miserable cunt" before the cameras were rolling.

Anyway, in case you think I'm making this up, here are some other things that happened on the show, which you will see on Friday night:

    1) Pink was actually a really good guest, sticking up for vegetarianism and PETA. Shame her song is shit.

    2) David Attenborough was defending zoos (but attacking them too).

    3) Wossy managed to persuade the Welsh rugby lad to propose to Charlotte Church.

Lack of publicity surrounding this record (particularly if Moz doesn't do the other stuff the record label has pushed him into doing) may bring back halycon days of pithy chart entries and an enduring hardcore following, which would probably satisfy most of the posters on this website!!!

Anyway I think we'd all prefer Moz to do sterling live performances at the gigs, rather than knacker himself out doing these promotional duties and then cancel the gigs after. Which will possibly happen anyway:-)

Get well soon, Mr Morrissey, I will hopefully see you in far-off places.

  • after all, with the TOTP announcement last week on "next weeks show" they did not say that Moz was to be there, yet they named all artists that would come there but that are less known. Now I find that odd to leave out someone who has had 4 top 10 hits in 2004 recently.
    Anonymous -- Friday March 24 2006, @01:49AM (#205363)
  • UK reception to You Have Killed Me.
With the exception of Radio 2, no-one's playing it, not even XfM.

Moz felt really aggrieved with the YRTQ singles that Radio 1 wouldn't play them and now he knows that his last album sold half a million and simply cannot believe that Radio 1 still won't play his songs.

He wants to lash out at the BBc so he's pulled out of TOTP and Jonathan Ross; both of which are BBC programmes. He is, I'm afraid, incredibly unreliable and very thin-skinned. He actually said in a recent interview that he uses the excuse of a sudden illness to get out of things he doesn't want to do, so even if this is stated, we won't know whether to believe it.

I feel sorry for Sanctuary. They've worked hard to line all this stuff up for him. Moz played ball in 2004 and fulfilled pretty much all of his promotional commitments but he seems to have gone off in a strop this time round. Everyone loses, we the fans, Morrissey's public image, Morrissey's chances of getting to number 1, the hard-working peeps at Sanctuary. What a silly, silly, man.

Jonathan Ross was just pissed off that Morrissey couldn't make it. He is very clearly a big fan.

Ross also said that Morrissey had cancelled his entire schedual for this week. (Inc Top of the Pops as mentioned.)

It genuinely seems that he has some kind of flu virus...

shame that this has happened in the week running up to the release of the single but better now than during the actual tour dates!

The show went on without him.. Pink was surprising pleasant - good performance of an average song. Nothing offensive.

David Attenborough was a sweet old soul.

  • That song is definite top 5 material and could give him a hit which isn't the lead single off an album.

In many ways, getting a hit that isn't a lead single is harder but often wins new fans and keeps album sales high for much longer. People want to hear 2 or 3 good songs on an album before buying it these days.

If Moz does the ross show and TOTP and perhaps Jools Holland to massively promote "in the future," I could see it going top 5, which would be quite something for a 3rd single.

Hope he doesn't play "youngest" though - it's a stinker.
