Interesting that Richard Hawley is on the bill considering he auditioned for Moz's touring band in '91.

Boz was in Los Angeles last week auditioning drummers for the upcoming tour.

SXSW 2006 WRISTBAND INFORMATION:

The Austin Chronicle will announce the dates when SXSW 2006 wristbands will go on sale in the February 24th issue.

To be among the first to find out when the wristbands will go on sales, join the SXSW SMS list to receive a text message. From your mobile phone, send a text-message to 56658 with 'sx add' as the message, and SXSW will send (512) mobile numbers a text alert when further wristband details are announced. Additionally, SXSW SMS will continue to provide updates and alerts before and during SXSW 2006. There is no extra charge for this service; normal text-messaging rates apply. SXSW SMS is sponsored by Yaris. Check sxsw.com for more info on SMS.

SXSW 2006 wristbands will go on sale priced at $130 (maximum two per person; cash or credit card only) at Waterloo Records ONLY. When the first 2000 $130 wristbands sell out, the price for the next 2000 will change to $150 (maximum two per person; cash or credit card only) available at Waterloo Records ONLY.

Please don't call Waterloo Records to ask questions about SMS or when wristbands will go on sale.

After the first 4000 wristbands are sold, SXSW will wait until March 9 to determine how many additional wristbands can be put on sale - if any - based on the pre-registration numbers for SXSW Music and Media Conference. If additional wristbands are put on sale, they will be priced at $175

Please be aware that SXSW registration numbers are running well ahead of previous years. It's likely that at most SXSW will only be able to release a very limited number of additional wristbands.

The prices will include tax and all service/credit card charges. Wristbands will be sold only in Austin, on a walk-up basis as long as they last, and they cannot be reserved in advance or purchased over the phone.

Wristbands guarantee that you won't have to pay cover charges at SXSW venues. They don't guarantee entry into sold-out venues, nor do they provide entry for minors into clubs that don't admit minors. SXSW badges receive priority entry before SXSW wristbands.

Interesting.

Perhaps he's going back on the road with Pearl Jam again.

Morrissey will blow Corrine Bailey Rae off the stage - background music, despite a pleasant voice.

Hawley has just made an excellent album and I understand Alison Goldfrapp puts on a great show. Could be good.

You say "Moz's show?" (Score:0)
Does that mean he selected the lineup?

Goldfrapp is an odd choice for Morrissey.

Hawley would be an excellent future collaborator. Make sure you get his number, Boz. Next album - Morrissey/Whyte, Morrissey/Tobias and Morrissey/Hawley. I think that could work very well indeed. Boz as musical director again. He should branch out as much as possible.

Hmmm, last time I saw Morrissey in Austin, I didn't. He cancelled right before showtime. The venue didn't even have a stage. They had tables turned on their sides to separate the performers from the crowd. LOL

why an odd choice? (Score:1)
Goldfrapp , they're interesting , maybe is too modern for Morrissey.
Supported Coldplay last european 2nd leg tour and now they're supporting Depeche Mode summer tour 2006.

              Oh , you know him?

I've played drums for 18 years in many types of bands. I've toured and I have done studio recording. I have been a fan of The Smiths as well as Morrissey (his solo career) since 1987.
I have studied , loved , learned , practiced and replicated EVERY single note of EVERY Smith's and Morrissey song there is. I've seen Morrissey countless times , and I must say that some of the comments on or about "Deano" are just plain wrong and even childish. He has played with Ben Harper (who's band grooves as well as slams), and he's done countless L.A. studio sessions for years , and truthfully - HIS tastefully precise drumming is the best thing that has happened to Morrissey's band since the albums Andrew Perasi played on (Viva Hate & Kill Uncle)!
No , "Deano" didn't hit the drums as hard as Spencer , no - "deano" isn't as hot as Spencer (as if that could ever really have anything to do with anything) , and no - "Deano" didn't possess the same level of energy that Spencer did , but "Deano" can play things that Spencer can't even think about!
Now , as soon as I say that I must add that musically , you can't just play all sorts of difficult and over the top things just because you can , and MUSICALLY - Dean NEVER did this! His time (like Mike Joyce) is rock solid , his groove is totally right and tight , and his sense of "creating space" has taken Morrissey's "live act" to levels it could never have reached with Spencer!
And speaking of Spencer , he did HIS BEST playing on Maladjusted! On that album he had this interplay going on between his ride cymbal bell and the opening and closing of his hi-hats. It was something he had NEVER done before! The song "Alma Matters" had me scratching my head for a few minutes untill I could figure out how Spencer was playing the opening and the chorus of that song. And don't even talk about his groove during the verse - he totally grooved it hard!
Now , the problem with Maladjusted WAS NOT Spencer or the songs , IT WAS THE CRAPPY PRODUCTION! The production made the music come across dull and even sterile. Spencer had MANY a great moment on that album (within the context of the music) , but Dean not only filled those shoes , he tried them on and his feet were too big , causing a need for new ones , his own.
So it will be interesting to see who can fill HIS shoes. Spencer could never quite recreate the drum parts or the FEEL of ANY of the older songs. Dean , well - on the latest live CD , sounds as if IT IS Mike Joyce or Andrew Perasi on the drums! AND , he plays and makes his parts FEEL EXACTLY like the studio recording as well.
So maybe some of you should think things through a bit more and get away from the seemingly emotional and childish rants...
                    No hate...
                    Morrissey is the king!

It was semi-apparent from the press releases/CV that Matt Chamberlain was a session musician, but was it a foregone conclusion he wasn't going on tour? And for those in the music biz, why do some album musicians not go on tour? Don't want to leave family, don't want to miss out on other recording gigs, or simple don't want to?

I guess Morrissey implicitly trusts Boz' judgement, or does Bozman narrow it down to 2 or 3 for Moz to make the final call?

All that behind the scenes stuff I'd love to see...I bet South With Morrissey had some of it. Go and release it now -- Morrissey is doing better than he ever has, he won't mind!
