One of the better Smiths covers I've heard in a while. I'm going to have to check this group out.

I was a fan of The Housemartins, back in the 80's, and always thought that Paul Heaton was a very good vocalist.

However, this cover is everything I don't like from The Beautiful South. Where, Heaton's vocals used to sound soulful, angry and urgent, now they're aliken to a lazy lounge lizard.

That piano in the background is just insufferable. I always adored Johnny Marr's guitar on this song (the first Smiths single I ever bought), and to have it replaced by something which sounds like LesAlanos from Phoenix Nights, well .....

Listen to The Housemartins' London 0 Hull 4, for Paul Heaton at his best. If you want to get into The Beautiful South, the early compilation "Carry on up the charts" is the best place to start.
