ELTON 'LIVID' AT BONO SNUB - contactmusic.com, 24/07/2005 09:25

The ROCKET MAN star was keen to feature [U2's] 1980s hit NEW YEAR'S DAY on the star-studded release - which is set to feature MORRISSEY and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - but BONO stunned John with the snub.

Anybody know which track will be on it?

Sounds like it's a "hit" compilation so will it be an older track like Everyday is Like Sunday or one of the more successful quarry singles?

Who wanted Elton's head on a platter? (Score:2, Informative)
    Dear Friends-

I remember reading where someone wanted Elton John's head on a platter?

I think that the comment- if truly said- is a bit shocking. But much of Elton John's music is simply *awful*.

I am a bit surprised that Morrissey would contribute a track- but it seems the effort is for a worthy cause.

Elton John needs to remember that not everyone is dying to collaborate with him. He is known to be flamboyant, excessive, self-indulgent, reckless, and unstable (at times). I also hear that he is not terribly friendly.

In all fairness, I remember reading where "Rattle and Hum" was declared "self-indulgent," too.

I think that Elton John would like to be the King of the World when it comes to AIDS benefits (and that is not necessarily a bad thing)- but, perhaps, Bono would like to do his own type of benefit without Elton's name being attached?

I know U2 have already contributed alot to the fight against AIDS. I am not sure of all of the inside politics.

Elton shouldn't be "livid" about anything. As long as everyone helps out in some way- then everything will work out fine.

I am a bit surprised that Morrissey would contribute a track, but I'm glad he did. It has been rumoured that Morrissey *has* recorded a few rough versions of JOBRIATH tunes- that would be most fitting to release.

    Sincerely,

    Ken Stavitzke

You're obviously trying to get a rise out of someone, so well done, here's the counter-attack. AIDS is not a 'gay cancer'; to say such a thing is astoundingly ignorant and extremely prejudiced. Cancer is cancer, AIDS is AIDS; for God's sake do your biology. The only reason AIDS initially spread faster amongst the gay community than the straight community is that (and excuse me for being graphic) the anal passage is not as tough as the cervix.
However, that apparent protection failed, and for the last decade more straight people have contracted HIV than gay people. But, no matter who has it and regardless of how they caught it, it's a tragic disease to contract.

Aside from that, Elton John doesn't seem happy unless he's 'livid' at someone; I also think there must be a clause in his contract that states the press have to use old photos; just look at him on this one. To be fair, he hasn't really done anything of worth since the 70's.
Anyways, it's nice to see Moz crop up on any CD, as it keeps him in the public eye when he seems to have otherwise dropped off the map.

BTW, I think it is perfectly possible to like both artists - Elton and Moz - although incredibly different. Sure, Elton has wasted his time on major schmultz in the last 15 years or so but he is a very talented musician technically, has a rounded and rich voice and has written some beautiful material. Sure he flounces around the world being the biggest steaming queen ever but isn't that what queens are all about?

This has nothing to do with sexual orientation of the artists....Elton asked others besides Moz, like Bono, so think about it.

The foundation does raise a lot of money (three cheers), but often in a vulgar way that I wouldn't think Moz would want to be part.
