From MorrisseyTour.com:
Thursday, July 14, 2005 OK stop e-mailing me Okay, stop e-mailing me about the Morrissey collaboration thingy. Also it must be a very slow week in Morrissey news for that to be top story on Morrissey-solo.com. It's not so much a story as it is an interesting tidbit. Initially I was given permission to release the details about the new collaborators but then a week later I was asked not to. Apparently the band is nervous that if the info gets out Moz will change his mind or something. I dunno. Also, I got the impression that the guys in the band were only collaborating for a few songs. I didn't get the impression that they were writing a whole album or taking over for Boz or Alain. I haven't seen any correct guesses. No, it's definately not Oasis! All I can say without giving it away is that they were an 80's band. I think their peak period was 1980-81. They played a gig last year so I guess they're still going in some capacity? There's a book about them due to be released soon. As soon as I can release the details I will. But probably by then someone would have already figured it out.

How about not reporting anything in the first place?
Now Morrissey knows that the band in question is nervous that he will pull out of the deal. Maybe he gave them his word, now it's all shot to hell because you're basically saying that the band thinks he is a sensitive flake. Nice going Morrisseytour! As the name suggests, it must be a slow time for you guys when Moz isn't on tour.
BTW, you're still trying to throw us off. I say this mystery band had a peak around 84-85, possibly came onto the mainstream scene around 80-81.

On the book to be published August 2005: As lead singer of the Cockney Rejects, Jeff Turner was responsible for some of the most explosive gigs in musical history. Adopted by West Ham hooligan mob the ICF as their band of choice, Jeff and his band frequently had to deal with the kind of violence the ICF usually reserved for the terraces. Although he never condoned their actions, as a teenaged boxing champ, Turner often found himself in the thick of things. This is a story of what it’s like to go from the East End streets to being a teenage pop idol and back again. Gripping from the first page, Cockney Reject is his astonishing story told in his own words.
"My true story of bravado, triumph, tears, betrayal and despair. From having the world in your hands at 15, to staring down a barrel at 17 and going from the TV screen to the Labour Exchange in two years. Hold on to your hat, because I never held on to mine!"
Interview: 10 Questions with..... Mickey Geggus
1. What are you currently up to (studio/live/etc)?
Currently the band are playing festivals in Europe, as well as writing songs for the next album, which we aim to release in September. Along with this, our singer Jeff Turner will be releasing his autobiography (co-written with our old mate Garry Bushell) so we'll be undertaking a full UK tour in September to promote both.
2. Give us a brief history of the band.
We formed after the original punk explosion in 1979, and got a deal relatively quickly with a small indie label who released our debut 'Flares n Slippers' EP, which stayed in the indie charts for months, and got us headhunted by majors such as Warner Bros and EMI.
Being Queen fans, of course we fancied seeing our debut album on the same hallowed label, so we plumped for a 5 album deal with them. Life in the East end of London was never quite the same after that.....
3. Who was/is are the biggest influences on the band and on the music you play?
Way before punk, myself, Jeff and our then bass player Vince were dyed in the wool rock fans. I bought Led Zep 2 when I was 11, and was brought up on a steady diet of Nazareth, Queen, Purple, Aerosmith and early ZZ Top. When punk exploded, I still thought that apart from the vocals it was just great rock n roll, the same went for The Clash and Generation X. There were still great hooks and stuff there, not like the punk that came years later when most bands didnt know the difference between a hook line and a fishing line. Thats why the Rejects were very keen to explore our rock roots later in our career.
Bands that still influence us are the aforementioned, as well as such stalwarts as UFO, The Damned, and The Gonads (hic)
4. Do you see the interest in the Cockney Rejects' style of music growing in the UK and Europe at the moment? And worldwide?
What happened there was that in the US bands who had grown up being influenced by us such as Green Day and Rancid started flying the flag, thereby getting their own generation of fans to check us out. This had a sort of kick-back effect in Europe, which led to a widespread revival of interest in the Rejects, which is still growing to this day, thankfully!
5. What has been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your own career to date?
Oh, numerous of both. I suppose that the bad lows include the Birmingham riot of 1980, where many people got hurt, including me! I guess that was our Altmont, so to speak, but then Keith Richards didn't end up with half his face hanging off and a GBH charge hanging over him as I did that night! In gentler times, I was especially proud of playing the Royal Festival Hall as special guests to Morrissey at his Meltdown show last June. At least it made me mum proud!
6. What would you like to achieve ideally by the end of 2005?
Ideally I would like to have the new album and the book, all co-ordinated to run alongside our UK tour i
