Latest update at the Boz Boorer site:

just a quick up-date from us "The Boorers" to fill in the gaps & let you know what is going on with us. Well , firstly work has started on our studio in Monchique, which we are very excited about & can't wait for our next visit out to see the developments, sounds fab. Hats off to Charlie.............

Last Sunday we did a warm up show for the Belfast Fest (www.Belfastroots.com) we are playing soon with Big Sandy & the Boys, (1-3 July) it was fun & very hot!!
Boz Boorer's Hillbilly Bop is a new thang we are playin' with, Brian, Pat & Bubba, what a blast we all had, & a great crowd too, the Fiddlers Elbow was Rockin' on Sunday.

Last week a band that Boz played with in the '80's, The Deltas, went up to Manchester, they were received very well & put on a great show. Boz was pleasantly surprised to bump into Mr Johnny Marr (who was rehearsing in the same building) & popped into the gig to watch a couple of numbers, it was a real buzz for some of the crowd that attended the show.

Boz is busy writing in his studio here in London, lots of stuff on the horizon and all very interesting..............

On the Morrissey front, all is cool & everyone is doing Okay. We were a bit confused to hear, apparent misinformed banter/ranting about an interview that Boz gave on a radio station, this was infact an interview given to a free-lance guy at the Manchester gig who somehow misconstrued the answers to the questions given in a genuine way by Boz to the interviewer. Somewhere along the line it turned into something out of TheTwilight Zone, sad thing is that people believe everything they hear/ read!!
Oh I wish I had that much time to spare.....
We are of course in contact with all our mates in the band and life goes on as ever....

We are getting ready for The Polecat's Shows that are coming up in the near future & Boz & The-B-Men are booked for a tour of Texas & N.Orleans in the fall.........So Watch this Space,

all the best & take care,
Lyn Boorer

Nice to hear that the band are still in contact - rather suggests they're all still working with Morrissey.

But also a shame on the other hand. Much as I like Boz and Alain, I was really excited by the possibility of new collaborators - what could they come up with?

YATQ Part II awaits us, unfortunately.

I can't believe you don't hear tunefulness in the songs you just mentioned; especially "Daddy's Voice" and "The Slum Mums." It just goes to show what varying taste many of us have on this site. I, along with many others think these songs are brilliant. I am always shocked to hear fellow fans bash such great songs. Yes, Morrissey has churned out a couple of subpar songs -- several towards the end of Viva Hate, about a third of Kill Uncle, a third of Maladjusted -- but the songs that truly seem to arouse the most rancor -- Daddy's Voice, All The Lazy Dykes, I Am Two People, The Public Image....I just don't get it! And I take pride in my musical taste. I wish the naysayers to these great songs could actually give specific reasons as to why they are such horris songs. I listen to Morrissey so much -- believe me, I can give you lists of reasons why I think the above songs rae genius. Morrissey isn't always so obvious and catchy. It's like a fine wine sometimes, darling. Ofcourse we look forward to a new album of awesome original songs, but I'm sure the composers don't look to this site for "critical inspiration" when so many scribes flippantly diminish what are actual glorious pop moments.

I was at this show and thoroughly enjoyed the night, especially when, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Johnny Marr walking past me on his way out, having been backstage to say hello to Boz, so I got a quick handshake and a "hi".
The info on Boz's site is not completely accurate, as Johnny left before Boz came on stage, walking swiftly, with a few people accompanying him, straight out of the venue after he had left the dressing room.

Going to see "Vinny Peculiar", who include Andy Rourke, Mike Joyce and Craig Gannon in their line-up, next week in Manchester.

Wonder if I'll get to see Moz this year, to complete the set, as it were.

Digesting disrespect on a personal level is, I can testify, quite a hard thing to do. But, once you've done that, witnessing it happen on mass level is even harder.

I've sometimes wondered what you were like, folks. You know, you the people behind the big star. But these days it's more and more like, the more I see, the less I wanna know. (cue to appropriate song, but only if you must)

I sometimes wonder if you remember the days when you were normal people with just a limited amount of money to spend on gigs. How would you feel if you were, say, a Morrissey fan stranded on an island these days? Tell me?

We know what he's like. We've figured out. But it's your behaviour I question. The apparent lack of honesty; you're letting rumours develop and then it's "oh these people really have nothing better to do". Do you even realize how hypocritical that is, I wonder.

You think keeping little mysteries will help the myth? What myth is there left? And then you complain people misconstrue things? But what's wrong with saying the truth and acting in a straightforward manner, instead of acting like you always cover somebody's arse, and letting people grow suspicious and wondering what's going on?

You think it's best to remain a tight little unit impervious to the demands of the rest of the world? In internet days? Is it wise?

You think you'll always be doing okay, is that it?

Well I'd like to tell you you'll always have your job and you'll always have money. But, although that's probable, I can't.
Or else I'd like to threaten you, saying you'll be on the dole sooner than you think. But I can't do that either.

What I can tell you though is this: just because somebody acts in a thoughtless, inconsiderate, egoistical manner because of their Star Status, don't you guys and their missuses feel obliged to act the same.

It sucks in somebody who's famous, but it sucks even more in somebody who's not really.
And if you want to keep little secrets and leave people in the dark ("who's in the band? Who's out? Why? What did he say to the journalist? Is it over? What colour next season's kilts?" blah blah), fine.
But then at least don't look down on the fans on here, however stupid they might be. (And we all know they can be dead stupid).
Remember who's paying for the food on the table. Even when he doesn't.

Remember there might be a kid somewhere who didn't get his 99 flake because his dad had to save the money for the Isle of Wight for Christ's sake!

I may have pissed piss you off with all this, but won't you agree with me on this much: "it's ok to be big-bellied. It'll never be ok to be big-headed."

Or are you too far gone to realize that?

Yes, this would be marvellous, BUT - the reason it doesn't happen is that Mike Joyce would receive performance royalties and therefore Morrissey blocks it - Morrissey said "Mike Joyce has ensured that The Smiths will not be reappraised" when asked about this very issue in a 2003(?) interview.

But, if they ever DO do it, may I suggest something along the lines of the brilliant Fall box set released last month ('The Complete Peel Sessions'). Three discs as follows:

Disc One: All unreleased BBC radio Smiths sessions (Peel, Jensen, Long et al)

                Disc Two: B-sides and rarities

Disc Three: a live show of superior quality to that recorded for 'Rank' - or live highlights from a variety of shows.

I would EASILY be prepared to shell out for that, and if they were to package it as well as Castle packaged The Fall's box, then that would be the cherry on the cake!

Boz has written some great stuff, but if anything the crystalline production on YATQ exposes the shortcomings of Morrissey's band - 'Crashing Bores', for instance, is shown up as almost tuneless, and certainly dull. Gang benefits from the clarity, as does I Like You. Other tracks - less so.

I agree that some tracks from the Arsenal/Vauxhall/Southpaw period were and still are astounding. But, since 1997, there has been a paucity of greatness - 'Trouble Loves Me', 'First Of The Gang', 'Lost' are all unquestionably fabulous, but that's virtually it. Of course there are also some merely GOOD songs in addition to these - 'IBEH', 'Public Image', 'I Like You', 'Succession' - BUT, the consistency is severely lacking now. I would like to see a TRUE return to form from Morrissey and The Lads, and YATQ Part II will not achieve this IMO.
