Heard JB on R4 months ago arguing the case for CHAVS against Amanda Platell. I had to stop the car and pull over. I could not believe the sickly whiney voice was coming from such a big gal!

...did anyone here see Sugar Rush? I was kind of curious as it's set in Brighton (where I live), so it was quite cool to see all the locations they used on the advert I saw.

I now I know that they used Morrissey songs in it! Cool.

I'm still undecided about Burchill though, after seeing her on that Chav programme...

Many moons ago apparently Burchill wrote an article on Morrissey for the Sunday Times. They had a falling out about it.

From Select magazine, May 1994:

"It's a bad day at Hook End. The reason, as ever: the press. Morrissey's personal assistant-cum-chief of staff Jake - a stocky ex-boxer at the 20s-30s crossroads, with a skinhead crop, a white Fred Perry-style shirt and hard blue eyes - is furious about a "stitch-up" of Morrissey by Julie Burchill in that morning's Sunday Times. He had had to go on a ten-mile run that morning "to work off the aggression", he says, and he makes it clear that Burchill should count herself lucky she's not a man, otherwise..."

Back then, I used to buy the U.K. magazine, The Face regularly, and it's about time Miss Burchill wrote a book! I always found her writing to be very interesting and her viewpoints intriguing. She strikes me as a woman with a very strong personality and of course we know Mozzer has one as well, and the two do not mix. Very unfortunate incident. But Miss Burchill is really very talented, check her out if you get a chance. The 80's, ahhhhh, wish they were back. But we must move forward, alas.

Hmmm...I'd rather stick my Morrissey CD on than watch TV waiting for Morrissey to come on for a few seconds. LOL!!!

I stumbled upon it by chance and it appeared as some worn-out journalist putting together a populist-formula tv 'celebration' of Chavs which just so happened to be the hip word of the moment. Pathetic grovelling to the mainstream. just boring and dull programming. How somebody like this could merit Morrissey as a genius is laughable.

I wish more people turned up un-announced on the doorstep. It is much more liberating! Speaking to people on mobile phones is just not the same because the person you are talking to only gives you half their attention because they are driving or in the pub or whatever.

Some of the best stories concerning Moz have revolved around this theme….. anyone remember that fantastic story about Suggs from Madness calling unexpected at Morrissey's house? It was something along the lines of:

SUGGS: Calls around Moz's house, knocks, no answer but finds the door open and walks in. Once inside Suggs finds Morrissey walking around a room lit by hundreds of candles, burning incense, blindfolded and walking around with a walking stick.

MOZ: On hearing Suggs, Moz lifts the blindfold and says "Aghh Suggs my man, what timing. I was just about to brew up.". A short while passes and Moz says, "I expect you were wondering what I was doing when you walked in the door?"

SUGGS: "Yes I was"

MOZ: "Well have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a blind in Morocco? I was simply trying to find out."

I hope Moz isn't put off by the likes of Burchill, I like this type of behaviour. Plus sorry Julie, that Chav documentary was total shite - it was the high level of contradiction throughout that put me off most.
