Important Isle of Wight Announcement
Morrissey will regrettably not be appearing at the Isle Of Wight Festival on the 11th of June as scheduled. The pressure of preparing the new album and losing his drummer earlier this month has made it impossible to do the gig without massively compromising both the gig and the album. Apologies to all the fans, the organisers and the people of the Isle Of Wight.

  • Morrissey has been hard at it on the new album.

In the last week he's barely had time to watch thirty bands and sit in the Cat And Fiddle sinking a few pints.

  • Look, we all know that the drummer is a throw-away position -- beating a board with two sticks, easy peasy.

That being said, I do have much respect for Bill Berry.

The thing is, finding a drummer should be so feckin' easy. The most complicated thing a Morrissey drummer has to do now-a-days is get up and beat the gong.

AND, with the number of ex-Morrissey drummers out there is increasing by the day, surely there's someone out there who can pick up the slack?

    Spencer for hire?

or Maybe Moz should place another ad in the paper, like he did before?

Or what about that chick that drums for Kelly Osborne (ha!)

I refuse to be angry with Morrissey; and for this, I know I am a fool.

  • Is he gone for good, then? I think that if he has then its a great shame. Sure, he wasn't the most competant drummer Moz has ever had, but he was fun, you know?

When I went to the MEN show, for some reason, I nearly burst out laughing when Deano slammed the gong abruptly at the end of "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores". I liked him, God bless him and if he's gone for good, I say good luck (Jesus, if he's joining Good Charlottte for good, though, I take that back!)

  • I thought it sounded a bit odd from the start, and besides hasn't it been going around for a while now that he won't be appearing. A new album is good news, and I for one can't wait. And no, I didn't spend my hard earned euros on tickets and flights before any one asks. But I can see why you'd be pissed off. But isn't this all part and parcel of it. Personally, I never believe its going to happen until Moz has left the stage after the encore. Before that I take nothing as given. I does add to the excitment though.

  • yes yes, so funny. morrissey's little quirks make me smile, especially his 'tour canceling' thing. and anyone who was planning on flying to see a concert(especially across an ocean) is a huge loser, and moz just put you in your place. you should be thankful that you got some notification that he won't be there.

my favorite moz cancelation story is the legendary finsbury park 1992 incident (the national front disco/union jack /skinhead backdrop one). The first day of the madstock festival was nearly sold out when morrissey was added to the bill. all the morrisey fans had to get tickets for the second day, but morrissey had pulled out by then.

what a sick, twisted, and absolutely lovely sence of humor.

I can imagine how you must feel, but the great thing is that you have found out early, so you can still sell your ticket(s) on ebay. Get a move on.

You can only imagine how difficult it is to get a great band together, and then to learn all the tracks again. Boz has his work cut out now, over the next few months, so let them get on with it in some peace. Just as things have been going so well, the curse strikes again and I really feel for them all. Morrissey and Boz will get there in the end, but give them time.......and that's a few months not a few days with the casio and an amp.

  • You think Morrissey feels good about cancelling? You should all know by now he is quite a mental person, deep rooted personality issues.

He might be going through something at the moment, simply cannot face going to the Isle of White, and who can blame him? (I'm joking). It's not that he simply can't be bothered, it is that the idea of it is out of the question.

This doesn't excuse the action and if it was put to him directly no doubt he would profess to be very sorry about it. If he could then go on to explain the mentallity of such an action is another thing. I feel sorry for those of you that bought tickets, but what can you do? He is famous and we are fans precisely because of his personality, and this is a perfect illustration of it. Normal people don't write his kind of lyrics and normal people don't let people down like this.

Or else he is a spoiled git that doesn't give a shit.

  • The artistic process is not something that is vomited out. If Morrissey doesn't feel as though he has the resources to properly employ a new drummer in time for the festival than that is his prerogative. Quality artists don't put themselves out there when they have a less than adequate product to deliver. Perhaps he's busy writing new, amazing songs and would rather premier them at some warm up dates (in LA hopefully!!) when everything is more "together" -- I know it must be dissapointing but hopefully this means that there is something even more exciting around the bend. I can't wait for more details about the new album!!

The festival people threw his name around to promote their festival, I guess. I hear this is a pretty common thing to do. So don't throw all the mud on the old Moz, it's not his fault this time.

Due to the fact that it was predicted, it makes me even more angry, since it's now two weeks left to the festival, & a lot of people will just now have booked everything last minute, nobody exactly expects him to drop out this late in the game. As someone said above, he hasn't exactly been working non-stop on the album, he's been waltzing about drinking Coronas at various gigs & befriending Kelly Osbourne.

On the plus side, they've just cloned a human embryo, so if someone will be kind enough to rummage through his garbage & get a DNA sample, we can each have our very own singing morrissey to play for us. I'd also like him to play naked at the next gig or i'm not sure i'll ever be able to forgive him.

    Who is co-writing it?

Alain is seemingly out of the frame, so will Boz be co-writer? Don't know, but if he is, he'd better pull his finger out and write some more 'Jack The Ripper's and 'Speedway's rather than his rather mediocre Quarry contributions.

Personally, I hope this signals a wholesale change in the band - change of drummer, change of guitarist. This could well be the making of his new album if the opportunity is seized. But I fear it will be Boz co-writing (I don't mind this IF Boz comes up with the goods, but his recent output has been very shaky IMO) - who else, after all? Well, I'd love it to be Johnny, a huge surprise, but there's no chance of that.

  • IOW statement from Morrissey:

I have not ever, at any time, agreed to play the Isle of Wight Festival. The announcement that I would play was made by Sanctuary—and it was their error. However, record companies will never take the blame for their own mistakes and Sanctuary’s press statement today reflects this.
In truth, I am not at all under pressure with the follow-up to You Are The Quarry—everything is in hand, and ready. However, my contract with Sanctuary ended last year and hasn’t been renewed. Hence, no promotional appearances for Live At Earls Court or the accompanying single. Surely somebody noticed?
Secondly, I have NOT parted company with Deano, and I am annoyed that Sanctuary have thrown this in without consulting either Deano or myself. But that’s just the way it goes. Call it anything other than what it is.
Thirdly, I have no connection at all with the site called Morrisseymusic.com. It is controlled by Sanctuary and I am neither consulted nor involved.
When a concert is announced in error—as with Japan last year—the inevitable news to follow is that I have “pulled out”; but I can’t pull out if I’ve never been in in the first place, and even though Janice Long kindly announced very early on that the IOW wouldn’t happen, unfortunately Sanctuary would not confirm this and this encouraged people to buy tickets.
I am very angry about the IOW, but I can’t control Sanctuary. I also realise that, regardless of the facts, people will always blame me for any unfortunate incidents—somehow believing that I control the entire spectrum of human events. In truth, since our closing dates last year in London and Dublin, my personal involvement in anything that has followed has been sub minus zero.
There will be a new signing for the new album, so please wait until you hear the news from my lips. Everything else is just gossip.
    love to you from MORRISSEY.

  • Oh my God!

From praising Sanctuary for the way in which they rolled out the red carpet for him a year ago, he is now pouring vitriol on them! His contract with them is over! But he says that the follow up to Quarry is "in hand and ready" - there will be a "new signing" for the new album. To me, those words are utterly and totally seismic. Does he mean he will sign to a new record company, OR does he mean he will sign a new co-writer?? I really hope it's the latter, that could be truly exciting. Boz may incur Morrissey's wrath for signing to Sanctuary - none of the band are available, yet Morrissey has the album "in hand". Who is co-writing? We must wait for an announcement from "my lips" as he puts it. This is just phenomenal! There are so many permutations to this statement, if you care to read between the lines. I do not blame Moz for IOW, I only care about his new record. I have said for ages now that change is needed to revitalise his output, and change, it seems, may well be in the air. Only Deano seems safe from the above statement. Wow. This is surely a major talking point, even if it is largely speculative as to the outcome!!
