Two Fat Lovers b/w Dirty Old Man 'Louise' is the new single from Manchester's other punk poet and glam-pop maestro Vinny Peculiar; famously christened by UNCUT Magazine as ’the Tony Hancock of Pop’. This landmark release from Vinny is the first to feature the sublime talents of former Smiths rhythm section, Andy Rourke [the bass guitar] and Mike Joyce [the drums] who joined forces with Vinny after seeing him perform at his regular Manchester club night The Kitchen Sink Disco. The line up is completed by Ben Knott [World of Twist] on keyboards. Two Fat Lovers was recorded in Gothenburg, Sweden and produced by Spooner and Kalle Gustaffeson of The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. It's a poignant and humorous take on the daily grind of love lives automated by routine but given an extra twist with it being from the angle of a couple of fatties ! Musically the single has you imagining The Go- Betweens jamming with The Kinks - infectious, driving and melodic. Vinny sings it like he lives it; the song concluding with a typically barbed yet undeniably Peculiar lyric serving as a gentle warning to the comfort eaters of tomorrow they’re going home to bacon and eggs, they can’t buy their clothes off the pegs, and as the years pass them by they get the nasty friction burn to the thigh'.
The band recently completed tours of the UK and Ireland with more dates being scheduled to tie in with the release. A new album entitled ’Kiss Me I’m a Social Worker’ is expected to hit the shelves in the summer.

wasnt he that lazy bastard that was fired by Marr and Morrissey? (not my words btw)

    • Craig is actually a fantastic guitarist. I wouldn't say he's on par with Marr, but who is? Let's not forget that a few early Moz singles (Interesting Drug, for example) were played by him...expertly, I might add. I think the theory of having a second Smiths guitarist was never realistic. Marr simply can't play with another guitarist because he's been playing the primary melodic instrument a long time...no synth, piano, or other guitar to rely on. In that frame of mind, you instinctly play multiple parts or voice on the guitar. Marr called Craig lazy, but it's more that Craig didn't have much to do.

  • Vinny Particular's band was being advertised as former Smiths members Mike and Randy's new band when they were doing they're Ireland gigs.

    Poor Vinny Peculiar.

Actually, listening to him makes me feel quite peculiar, specifically in that after 4 bars I want to put a plastic bag over my head.

  • Who cares? Craig Gannon played guitar with the Smiths about 18 years ago for a very limited time. I think I've contributed more to Morrissey's career then Gannon ever did by purchasing M.'s recordings and going to concerts.

i'm sick and tired of hearing about those wankers. now that Moz is on top of the world, joyce and rourke and gannon are again attempting to cash in on his coattails without actualy working for it. is anyone so naive as to think that Mozzer and marr couldn't have gotten a hundred other english musicians to play the bass and drums on those smiths records as good or better than those two brickheads? gannon was nothing but a footnote who contributed nothing, and rourke and joyce look more and more pathetic with each attempt to create a retirement fund by riding along on Mozzer's name and talent. This sort of info shouldn't even be posted, because if you're a Moz fan you'd hate them because he does- they dragged him into court! This is MORRISSEY-solo dot com, not a joyce/rourke site!

well said. i'm no musician, but even i know that rourke's bass lines are important to the composition of many of the smiths songs. this can largely be attributed to rourke and marr's appreciation and practice of funk music.
