Johnny Rogan speaks of possible contact with Morrissey

Mickey Ferry writes:
Johnny Rogan was interviewed this evening on Irish radio by Dave Fanning. Rogan was discussing his latest book 'No Surrender' which is a biography on Van Morrison. While discussing Morrison's apparent displeasure at being Rogan's latest subject the conversation naturally veered towards the famous Morrissey fatwas of the 90s. Rogan stated that despite all Moz has ever said about him he (Moz) had been nothing but nice to him when they met. He then went on to say that just last year he was informed that Morrissey was looking to make contact and had infact asked for Rogan's phone number and it was given to him. Despite this apparent olive branch an unsurprised Rogan concluded that as of yet no contact has been made by Morrissey.

a while ago, i got bored and asked someone who might know for johnny rogan's address. they came back with what they claimed was an old phone number, but i never called it. i couldn't imagine what in the hell i would do with that because i have much less reason to call than anyone else would.

"johnny rogan?"
"yes?"
"uh...is your refrigerator running?"

Why in the hell is Rogan wasting his time with a Van Bore-rrison (get it? I made a joke) bio when I've been waiting for that Morrissey, the Solo Era book for years now. Didn't Rogan promise a second tome? He mentioned that it would dig deep into Morrissey's "personal relationships" among other aspects of his career.

I believe even Morrissey commented on it -- something to the effect of "Well, it's going to be a very thin book if Rogan decides to write about my personal life.

Rogan will say anything just to get a bit of publicity. He's probably made the whole thing up.

I reckon quite a few people have cottoned onto the fact that Morrissey's "never respond, never explain" policy means they can say what they like about the man and get away with it.

It's rather foolish of Morrissey to my mind, but if that's the way he wants to play it, he has to deal with the consequences.

Don't you think? I mean how else would Rogan have gotten family photos of Morrisey's grandparents, and pictures of Moz as a child. And the school recollections were so detailed, it's hard to believe they didn't come from Morrissey himself. A lot of the anecdotes were very specific, day-to-day stuff -- I highly doubt that even SPM's friends would remember details like what he wore to his Inland Revenue job, etc.

And so that would mean that the Morrissey "fatwa" on the writer was just for publicity. Or maybe Rogan deviated from the script at some point & Moz became genuinely furious at him.
