My name is Giovanna. I am a 35 young lady, italian, living in Roma. The Smiths are always being my passion since I was sixteen... I was a thin, dark, sensible girl looking the life in a poetic way and Morrissey gave words and music to my feelings...During the 90s this passion for him was sleeping but in 2004 with You're the quarry my love for him came back suddenly...

On wednesday I was walking in the sun in Roma in via del corso. The early spring arrived and I meet him. he was walking in via del corso too with his shopping bag... I stopped him and I asked if he was morrissey and he said yes I am... and he was so surprised because an italian girl recognised him. We walked together 5 - 10 minutes and my english was so bad that I couldn't express everything I had to say.... He apologised for his italian and we were both embarassed... Nobody recognised him so I was really alone with him and he was kind and gentle with me and I think that this walk in the sun of Rome with him has been an incredible, beautiful emotion. Now I think I am a lucky girl... the man of my dreams came along...

  • If this story holds truth, it is amazing. I can picture it, almost romantic.

To all the detractors - er Morrissey meets a lot of people. With a bit of luck tho he'll manage to give you miserable meanspirited fucks the swerve for the forseeable!!

  • Thanks for sharing your story! Another testament to what a great guy he really is!
For you naysayer down there, she said his italian was not good, not that he was actually speaking it badly. Come on, anyone with a bit of intelligence knows a few words in other languages, especially if one is well travelled.
    Good for you Giovanna!

This story is true. He's currently staying at the Hotel de Russie, where I was until yesterday. I spotted him twice at the gym (oh yea, it might seem incredible). I dared not go an talk to him for I was already with my coach and, to be honest, it was pretty embarassing : Morrissey was walking around with 6 or 7 lbs weights in each hand pretending to make huge efforts while a little boy could have done better. But it did happen twice. The guy is much bigger than I thought.

God, I'm so happy we share the same taste in hotels ! I just wish he was strong enough to be my partner at the gym :D

  • I read your comments... I thank you for your answers. I wanted share with you because I tried to share with my friends but for the majority in Italy Moz is only an old musician of the eighties. I wrote in a romantic way because what happeneded is something bigger only if you try to be a little romantic... Via del Corso is a the most commercial street in Roma with all the most expensive boutiques and a lot of people walk in... Why not Morrissey???? He said he was in Rome toi visit some friends.... We spoke in English sure. But I was so moved that I had difficulties and to help me he said "Sorry for my italian"..... It's all...
    Anonymous -- Tuesday March 22 2005, @01:59AM (#155038)
  • Iam Giovanna. We didn't speak in italian. We spoke in english!!!!! But I had difficulties. My english is good enough to communicate only when Iam not in an emotional state as I was... So he said sorry for my italian... just to apologise because he wasn't speaking in italian... and because we had difficulties to communicate. The story is simply true. I shared here because I needed to share with Morrissey fans. Thanks anyway

  • If it is true,I'm really happy for you.But..since I heard also last year that Moz was going to spend some time in Rome,I wonder...why the hell,my beloved Moz, don't you arrange some concert in Italy if you like it so much? There are Italian people who love him, and he played only 4 times in his 20-something-year career here.

  • Pardon my ignorance, I'm new to all this. You say the man lives in Los Angeles? Really? Anybody know his zip code (joke, joke)? I live here and I never see/hear anything about him in the local celeb buzz.
Pardon my ignorance, again, but has he played any clubs/small venues around town lately? If so, his PR people are asleep. Thanks for the info.
