The official site of Moz :

has been updated, NOW when you go in the LINKS section, the link to Alain Whyte's site has been erased !!!

That’s confirm the rumours that he has definitely left the band, NO ???

Regards and happy new year to all from France!

  • No whining. Bring back Vini Reilly. The Viva through singles era was the best. Of course, the big question is can Moz rise to the occassion? Perhaps he should have stepped from the band in place of some younger, less bloated 'droid. I understand the current, injured Roy (from Sigfried and Roy) is actually a stand-in when the real Roy died some years back. If Morrissey can't find time for the stairmaster, perhaps there's a solution.

The fact is that there is little that indicates anything other than what we have already heard - that Alain is unable to be in the band at the moment, due to some sort of illness. Let's not start any unfounded rumours because of the probably random actions of a website operator.

Why is it that every time there is a bit of news so many go off the deep end with wild speculation? Why can't you just wait for the official news. If we NEVER hear any official news then the next few albums will make it clear where Alain stands, as he will either be there or not. And if (MAY THIS NOT HAPPEN) there are no more albums as some here have once again S P E C U L A T E D, then there really won't be a need for Alain anyway, now will there?

The fact that the link is gone could be as simple to explain as the person above who said it is just down for revisions. Why make it sound like Morrissey had his lawyers remove it due to a contractual agreement that permanently cuts Alain off from ever working with Morrissey again?

As far as the whole "Alain writes/plays better than so & so" and vice versa arguement: If Alain stays, good for him. Let's hope he writes some cracking music. If Alain is replaced, OK then it's time to move on since there is nothing we can do about it and let's hope whomever replaces him writes some cracking music. Either way, let's just hope Alain is well and if things have come to an end between him and Morrissey that it ended peacefully and they are both happy about it.

Without any kind of PROOF at all, we have people blaming and attacking Morrissey. But IF Morrissey did have something to do with Alain no longer being in the group, so what? Granted it won't be easy to find someone as talented as Alain, but that's not our problem. And just as Morrissey came into contact with Alain and things took off from there, so it can happen again with someone else. Most of us didn't know Alain before his work with Morrissey and if he gets replaced it MAY be with someone none of us know now. But we could be very pleased with that new person.

  • Given the general "total excommunication" Morrissey affords to ex-collaborators / friends, I suspect that he would have removed any of the pictures from that site that Alain appeared in. So far as I can tell, they all remain.

Coupling this with the fact that the Alain Whyte Syte is "official" only in name, I think anyone would be ill-advised to jump the gun as to the significance of the link being removed.

Besides, listen to the Janice Long session again. Any longtime Morrissey / Alain listener can tell that at least one of those new songs is very likely a Whyte collaboration.

There are many possible reasons why the link may have been removed, eg:

    i) the site hasn't been updated in a long time and therefore isn't particularly informative

ii) Alain may want some privacy, and therefore forums which result in fan emails or postings asking where he is, has he left, was he sacked is he ill etc - however well intended - aren't appreciated!

In any event, as much as many of us would like to see Alain back with the band...isn't it irrelevant, if, as the coded warning at Earls Court suggests, Morrissey has called it a day? I hope to be proved wrong, but the live album may well be the "new album next year" that Morrissey referred to in the recent Word interview. I agree with others that the link being removed doesn't automatically mean that Morrissey has severed all links with Alain. I really feel that it's yet another aspect of the extrememy low profile which he has adopted at present for whatever reasons.

I wish everybody would let it drop for a while and give the guy the space, privacy and respect he deserves.

I hope he does come back to the fold but it looks unlikely at present. Perhaps whatever his demons are, they will be sorted through time, rest and the patience of his friends, family and fans.

Whatever is troubling him, it's clearly very serious - so he needs to do whatever he feels he needs to - however long it takes.

If he doesn't come back then we always have the amazing music to look back on and cherish. Everyone is replacable but some are more difficult to replace than others. Morrissey made his name before him and will continue without him too... it's a shame but it's true.

Like I said though, I think Alain is great alongside Morrissey and I really hope he gets well soon.

I take your point about Boz's songs - 'Speedway', 'Jack The Ripper, 'I'd Love To' and 'Now My Heart Is Full' all back up your point about the nature of Boz's music. But Alain co-wrote 'Seasick', 'Hold On To Your Friends', 'I Am Hated For Loving', 'Glam Glue' - Vauxhall has some great songs from Alain. But the best songs on Quarry are Alain's - Gang, IBEH. Boz's Quarry songs, like Crashing Bores, are weaker. Boz's songs on Vauxhall may be the best ones, but it's not as simple as you think!
