Just been reading Sky Active & there was an article which says a number of celebrities are to appear in a pro hunting tv programme in January. One of the names mentioned is PJ Harvey. I can't believe Morrissey would allow her to support him if he knew she was in favour of fox hunting.

  • I find this hard to believe. Her support slot appears untenable to me now, but it’s not my call. Should music stand alone or are the artist’s views intrinsic to the overall package they deliver?

Further research is needed, but if it is true it will spoil my enjoyment of her opening for Morrissey (if it is correct). I will decide whether to stay in the pub or go and watch and hurl some abuse her way. Legitimate protest of course!

'Broken' wont be able to resist this one, so if he posts, solidarity brothers and sisters, ignore the Twat!

I've read another report that merely said that she has been approached by the programme-makers (who'll be wanting to generate as much advance publicity for the show as possible by mentioning loads of names that probably won't even be on it.).

From what I know, Polly (who was brought up in the countryside) made a pro-fox-hunting comment very early on in her career (early 90s). However, when asked in more recent interviews, she has said something along the lines that she can see the argument from both sides and that she's not going to either support or oppose the ban.

She has already supported Morrissey at some shows abroad so maybe they have spoken about the subject??

  • Patti Smith was a lover of the old Fur coat, yet old Mozzer still finds it okay to be a fan and sing her songs.

Not a million miles away from each other in many ways Polly and Patti!

If you hold strong opinions about it then be vocal about it at the gigs. I feel a bit let down by Polly Harvey, but she has her right to express her opinion (even if they are morally bankrupt).

I'm glad to say that I did my bit to get the hunting ban on the statute book (letters to Blair and my own MP). So if Polly et al want to complain about us city folk dictating to the country folk, let them.

For once we can be smug in victory.

Stop being so bloody hysterical, fox hunting is banned now anyway.

She is a wonderful musician, let her have her opinions and enjoy her music.

If you are anti-hunt then you won, she lost - leave it at that. Unless it is the moaning you really enjoyed all along.

  • Morrissey has on occasion vacillated (or if you prefer, oscillated wildly) on the whole veggie thing. It wasn't so long ago that he turned down some or other veggie brigade for that same reason. I wouldn't be surprised or offended if he succumbed to the occasional sausage.

Reading the posts, I find it much more interesting that a man who must by now be worth several million pounds still wears Doc Martins (of which I'm a fan).

  • Gutted PJ Harvey is supporting Moz. I am going to Brighton and Earls Court gigs, the only bonus of her playing, is that it allows us an extra hour in the bar. Gene are playing a gig in London the on the 16th December, couldn't have they been asked to support Moz on 17th and 18th, or what about The Ordinary Boy's or British Sea Power. As Moz once said 'there is always a fly in the ointment".

  • Well, having been a PJ Harvey fan since the release of 'Dress' years ago, I have to say I'm absolutely horrified to learn that she's pro-hunting. It really has coloured the way I see her, I used to believe that not only did she produce beautiful music but she was also a beautiful person. I just can't believe that now. For any of you doubting that she is pro-hunting, as I optimistically was, I suggest you do a search "PJ Harvey pro-hunting" & it will fully answer your doubts. I'll still adore & love her music but this really does affect my love for her as a person. Another person I loved & who I am now horrified to learn is pro-hunting is Stephen Fry...I'm absolutely gutted about finding this out about two people I adored. Thank God for Morrissey & Fab Macca...

  • Yeah for today! My whole life I have been strugglin' with the PJ Harvey dillema. You know the one... Is she a talented artistic dark diva that I somehow just do not get or is she just a farce, a plastic record store indie girl trying to hard to be unique. Her music really is subpar and I had given her an ounce of credibility just based on the fact that she appears to be different than the status quo. Now I see her for what she really is. An idiot and a cruelty promoter. May the next simpleton who sets out on a fox hunt come across a low hanging branch at a very fast pace.

I’m sure Morrissey will have been listening the arguments and may have reached a similar conclusion. Inviting PJ could be a signal to his fans of the new opinions that they are now expected to hold.

(not many) How many chickens die per year as a result of Walmart driving farmers costs down so much they are cruely bred? how many of you buy chickens from the supermarket? The whole fox hunting debate is a complete joke, an agenda set by those who despise the midder/upper classes and no doubt wolf down their unthinking peasant-like £3.99 chickens from Walmart every sunday. • Those who wish to boycott the gig do so and tell everyone what fun it was. Those who wish to protest please do so outside the venue, preferably with a pen and paper. PJ Harvey has never been 'pro' fox hunting. She has spoken several times, when quizzed by interviewers (nme 1998), and then has answered honestly. She has mentioned how a fox got into their chicken hutch and killed them all. She said she had an urge to throtle the fox. Wouldn't you? And that is what they will do now anyway, so she's cleared by my jury on that count :) They are seen as pests. Would you want one in your backgarden? She comes from a small farming community. The lives of people around her will change because of this governmental legislation. One that encroaches on their culture, society..and earnings..and is in the eyes of many just to appease activists. (no luck with the war..hmm, ah, animal rights, thanks Tony!). There has been no comment from her this year, as far as i'm aware on hunting. I doubt she will be on tis programme, if she does then so be it. The woman is a gentle, peaceful artist. If you are going t protest why don't you do it somewhere else. Do you really feel this strongly about it that you have to (possibly) terrorise somebody who is there to entertain you, certainly ruin others enjoyment of a (very expensive) concert?

PJ's work is very much in the same vein as Morrissey's. Please, grow up, shut up and enjoy the show.
