The fine British band The Beautiful South release "This old skin" on Monday 6th December with the classic Smiths track "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" as the B side on CD2. I suggest we all go out and buy it.

Paul Heaton covers Morrissey! Wow I have got to hear what this sounds like. The Beautiful South are the MOST UNDERATED band of all time. If you have not heard them you must check them out. I recomend "0898 The Beautiful South" (translates to 1-800-The Beautiful South in America). The later stuff gets a bit more 60's lounge/pop. They are great. Got to get this single.

There was a time when the Housemartins nearly gave the Smiths a run for their money in the wry catchy tunes department (it was no contest really, but competition is always healthy). Heaton remained one of the few emotionally mature songwriters well into his Beautiful South days. Choke and 0898 looked more than respectable alongside contemporary Kill Uncle.

Thought the B/S had actually given it up after some side(tracked) projects, actually. Could be time for another overdue comeback... even if it does ride the coattails of an old rival.
