Dan Gross | Morrissey in crash here

SAD-SACK SONGMAN Morrissey was involved in a Saturday afternoon car accident in Center City.

It wasn't a double-decker bus that crashed into his car, as the former Smithsfrontman once sang about, but a Ford Mustang.

The singer, who played two shows at the Tower Theater over the weekend, was seated in the back of a black Mercedes whose bumper was torn off after being struck by the Ford around 23rd & Chestnut streets.

When the mopemeister from Manchester got out of the car to hop into a taxi, an excited onlooker yelled, "You're Morrissey," and dropped her bags of groceries.

Moz hightailed it out of there while the driver and another man stayed to deal with the accident.

                    Here's what went down: Moz was riding in the backseat of his rented Mercedes with his boy Charlie Browne at the wheel, trying to make it in time for the soundcheck;

                    Chucks - Oi! Morrissey...erm would you have another spot of tea?

                    Morrissey - Why yes....that would be lovely.

                    Chucks - Some crazed looking man in a Mustang is plodding along traffic at a bizarre rate back there. Shall I speed up?

                    Morrissey - (sipping his Earl Grey) Erm...what?

                    CRASH-BOOM-CREAK!!!

                    Chucks - Moz, are you alright? Moz?

                    By now Morrissey has hopped out of the backseat, not to investigate the damage, but to investigate the stain which has now been made apparent on his Gucci slacks. Meanwhile, the man in the Mustang steps out, it is none other than a drunken Billy Joel. Thanking his lucky stars that it was just the back of a Mercedes instead of another house, he proceeds towards Morrissey. Neither one recognize each other as some strange woman with matted hair yells "You're Morrissey". Charlie, who by this time managed to make it out despite a strained neck, kicks the woman in the shin, causing her to drop her groceries. Thus, giving Moz ample time to escape according to standard operating procedure. The woman then believed it was Morrissey who had kicked her, but was later disappointed after Police examined Charlie's passport. When all was said and done, Charlie and Billy agreed to verbal arrangements for the repair of damages, and only 3 people noticed that Morrissey had a stain.
                    Morrissey immediately changed into his spare Versace trousers, and the show was a success.
