Sinatra's desire to cover 'Bengali in Platforms' only reforces how little she really knows about Morrissey. Why does he continue to endorse this woman? Her lack of awareness is embarrassing.

Just picture the scene.
Nancy Sinatra begging Morrissey to let her do a cover of Bengali in Platforms.
"Oh Moz!..I've just been listening to Viva Hate in the bath, and I heard this simply adorable tune....Please, please let me cover it."
"Erm..Nancy, how about one of the others?"

He must have pissed himself laughing when she suggested that song.

why not instead cover "asian rut" or "national front disco" maybe morrissey could pen a new and even more offensive song for her to cover!

However much fun you poke at Ms. Sinatra, you cannot deny her taste in Morrissey's catalog is quite superb. Sure, I wholly agree that Morrissey's "Let Me Kiss You" is an absolutely superior selection. It's not at all typical of Morrissey, as it almost sounds like something Ms. Sinatra would pen herself.

Still, I can definitely understand why she pressed him on a particular tune. That's what music is all about, you want it to speak to you in a personal way. Besides, it's lyrics notwithstanding, you simply must concede "Bengali" is an exquisite song.

In a radio interview this year Morrissey claimed that Nancy had asked to meet him in his hotel room, rather than the other way round like Nancy has said this time.

Sweet and tender hooligan, that'd be a good one. Or Jack the Ripper, maybe.

What is wrong with you lot? So Nancy Sinatra asked to cover 'Bengali In Platforms'? Big deal. She's a pal of Moz's. That's why she gets mentioned here. That's all there is to it. Why diss her? There's no reason. You lot are idiots!

He really buttered her up with that "it'll put you on the charts" stuff. The thing I love about his version is his sense of cadence which spruces up an otherwise forgetable song. Nancy's version sounds like someone made her smoke a carton of cigs then kicked her in the throat. If anything I'd rather hear her cover "Oscillate Wildly" (oh, yes, I'm aware it's an instrumental). Good fences make for good neighbors, Morrissey!

I notice a handful of spite being passed around any time a celebrity either close to Morrissey, or pimping his shirts is being given some run on this site. Okay so Fred Durst and his band sucks, Andre 3000 is black, Kirsten Dunst is not a great actress, and Nancy is old. So what? They all dig our man's music, just because they can't do anything as great through his influence doesn't mean they can't be fans like you all are. The only real difference between most of you and them, is that they are out enjoying their millions of dollars. Which apparently buys them all the Moz shirts they want, fake or not. No wonder they get slammed around.

As for Nancy -
 
"Over the years, I kept begging him to let me do "Bengali in Platforms" [from 1988's Viva Hate], because I love that song. He kept saying "You'll never do 'Bengali'-so forget it." Then a couple years later he sent me a rough version of "Let Me Kiss You" with a note that said, "If you do this song, you'll be back on the charts for the first time since 1972."

This is just classic! Moz telling her "You'll never do 'Bengali' so forget it". He's the MAN. You don't do one of his songs, unless he thinks you got the mojo for it. Nothing against Nancy, but Moz knows whats up. That's why he wrote LMKY for her. Just another example of that keen musical ear of his. He goes up to her with his 45's and personal collection, gets her sig, has tons of respect for her. Then she asks him to let her do one of his songs. "No you can't. You'll never do it, just forget it". Then he busts out with something her voice is more suited for. "Here you go. You'll be in the charts again. I'll show you". Is it in the charts by the way? Was Moz right? I dunno, but that's Moz.

By dah way, I been doin' a toned-down rendition of "Yah Gonna Need Someone on Yah Side" dat kills at dah clubs down here.

I wonder if Nancy has ever asked Moz to let her kiss him... after all, he is THE MOST charming man of all, and she is quite a foxy lady herself (for her age). Let alone her declaration in that C4 documentary that he is "the best hugger"...!
