'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' featured in VH1s '100 greatest no 1s that never were'. It came in at no 49. (Robbie Williams' 'Angels' was #1, so that shows you what kind of chart this is).

  • Just think that the guys at VH1 are getting kinda desperate judging by this poll.
Robbie Williams 'Angels' at number 1???
I have had better number 1's and 2's after 8 pints of bitter and a good vindaloo on a Friday night.

  • Vh1 is a waste of time. Instead of spending their programming time actually playing videos, they slap together these moronic "100 Greatest...." type lists. It's basically just an excuse to fill up airtime and give some has-been celebrities a moment on the tube to blather on about how awesome each choice is.

  • ... but i would argue it should have. 'This light will never go out' is like a slap in the face with a breath of fresh air and it shows the optimism of Morrissey.

If i was making a video for the Smiths of the song i would have Morrissey as a mad scinetist making an army of Morrissey clones who will keep reproducing forever and making records and mayb even posting on this board. 'When he sings 'take me ou-ou-out to-n-a-i-ght' i think he's 'taunting' his enemies, daring them to assasinate him because deep in the cell of his heart he really wants to die but on the other hand saying 'you can kill me but another Morrissey will take my place!' So he can see reasons 'for' and 'against'.

that's just an idea, no offence meant if you would make it differently.

    best wishes josh.

  • I'm quite pleased with the result as aside from it being my favourite song, TIAL is a relatively obscure Smiths song to non-fans and it's interesting it was the only placing for them and beat out other standards like HSIN which usually win in these silly polls.
