just amazing, high enegry, excellent footage. plus the uk crowd makes the us crowds look like they were at a funeral. i would have given all five of my nights at the wiltern to be at the MEN gig.

I'm almost sure you can do better than that.
  • It reminded me a lot of the "Will Never Marry" video, but this is much better considering the better filming, the better audience shots, really showing how rabid moz fans really are. I think it perfectly caught Morrissey's natural charm and charism onstage which translates excellently for film.

Overall: A great improvement on IBEH which was a disgrace to video even with Moz's low standard for them.

  • No other video captures the moz 'experience' as this video has. That said, his other videos are so horrible that it didn't take much to top them, I don't think he has one classic video - although what I've seen from "Ouija Board" looked amusing.

  • The most positive set of comments I've seen on Moz's endeavours for some time!

Video is great - will Sanctuary include it on the single/a version of the single? Do hope so!

Great song too obviously - and I'm not a fan of the album on the whole! As someone said, Moz should have kicked off the Quarry campaign in this fashion!

  • Though I wasn't at the MEN show (and I regret it now), it apprears to have really captured his and the audience's performance well.

The way they pieced together shots from different songs so that he was constantly in various clothes, reminds me of the songs in Hindi movies where the characters are in different clothes in each shot of the same song.

I really enjoyed it. I'd love to see the full concert.

  • it's a poor video and quite sad. If anything demonstrates that morrissey's sense of self is way out of control, it's the version of the video I saw with backstage footage etc. It also has absolutely no popular appeal.

still, it's a great album and a great single.

People like eugenius and moby are the type of people who think it's classy to eat their food off a plate in the evening. They're simply idiots. They love this video and don't like the album, which speaks volumes really.

    from MorrisseyMusic.com

The video was directed by AV club, directors of the video for the first single, "Irish Blood English Heart." It was shot on May 22, at Morrissey's recent birthday concert in his hometown, Manchester, England.

  • The weird thing about this video is, as a Morrissey fan, I love it, but as a video that should attract interest in the artist, it is crap. I enjoy the various shots of Morrissey in concert and backstage - even though the are cut incoherently - but if I were a non-fan, this vieo would have about as much effect on me as a Backstreet Boys video, i.e. it preaches to the choir.

Overall, I like it. But only because I am a Morrissey fan and enjoy seeing him and the band live, which I really have not been able to i a long time. If I were an average music listener, I would not be impressed.

  • The VH1.com version of the video which includes Moz singing 'My Way' at the start and featurs the live rendition of the song the start. It also includes back stage footage and snippets from throughout the show as opposed to the realtime version of the song.

Can I ask a few questions regarding the other version shown on MTV2. Does this feature Moz singing 'My Way' at the start of this and also is this actually realtime footage of the live 'FOTGTD' performance or is it the studio version of the song over the top?

Though I like to hear the Live version I'm not sure this should appear on the video - the studio version does have a better sound.

  • I agree with the obove poster - somewhere along the line Moz has somehow become middle of the road. I really can't fathom how this happended, but it has. I don't think 'First Of The Gang' is lame, I think it's a good pop song - but that's all, and you see in the past his songs meant so much more. Earlier today I heard again the live version of 'Disappointed' on 'Viva Hate' reissue - if only the Moz of today had HALF the energy and conviction and anger with which that song is performed, and if only his band played with half the ferocity. And what has happened to the lyrics??? 'Disappointed','Girl Least Likely To', even as late as 'Trouble Loves Me' - songs like these demonstrate how wonderful many of Moz's lyrics once were and how comparatively banal the likes of 'How Can Anybody', 'You Know I Couldn't' and 'IBEH' now are. I certainly don't think he should stop but he should concentrate now on giving the best for his studio work and scale down his live performances cos they aren't as great as they used to be. Oh yeah, and the video -it's ok, nowt special, rather like Moz's present batch of songs. I believe he can stun us again musically but some adjustment is now needed.

  • I know this is off-topic but I've noticed a number of people on this site saying in various posts that this is Moz's last album and that he is never going to release another one. Trouble is, no-one ever backs this up. It's not that I don't believe you, what I want to know is, are you speculating or do you know something/have evidence to support what you're saying?? I have been critical of YATQ but I would hate for Moz to stop working in the studio if nothing else - just the possibility that the next record might be fab will keep me interested (and there's no reason why it shouldn't be, some real veterans like Dylan have gone for years without doing a decent album and then have surprised everyone with something excellent - surely someone of Moz's standing could pull this off too). So is it REALLY true that Moz will not be recording again? Please tell if you know something or say if you are just guessing. You can always remain anonymous. I sincerely hope this is not the last music to come from Moz, that would be a HUGE waste, though I think he might want to change musical direction a bit and scale down his live performances. This site would certainly become rather dull if all we had to look forward to was Mark Simpson's next hagiography or the latest b-side compilation!

  • I just want to concur with someone who posted above who said the video is rather too "Las Vegas cabaret" - I agree. By Moz's standards this isn't a bad video at all, but I can't understand these people who keep saying they want him to become the new Sinatra. WHY?? So, you want him to become some crooning bastion of the establishment who's work is filed under 'easy listening'? No thank you. The idea of him playing Las Vegas in a white suit is frankly horrifying - if anything, he should now go Bowie's way and dress respectably but maintain his credibility in the indie scene. And for those who hate Bowie, the truth is that MOST people in the rock world do hold him in esteem and his present image does make him look very cool for his age. At the same time, he still makes the same kind of music he used to, and, since 'Heathen', is beginning to make it very well again. If Bowie tried turning into Bing Crosby it would be awful, if Moz tried turning into Frank Sinatra it would be awful too. No lounge act/cabaret Moz please - just Moz the indie godhead!
