those two cover versions are beyond awful, all these foreign bands who do covers all sound exactly the same, just say NO!

I think Anonymous, if that is your real name, is a bit off the mark. Nothing will be as good as the original Moz versions, but those covers aren't bad at all. In fact, they are a bit refreshing.

I kinda like the Last of the International Playboys. It's like Morrissey filtered through "Bouncing off The Satellites"-era B-52s. Of course, that may be seen as more damning than praise by some, but at least they didn't just do a note for note re-hash of Every Day Is Like Sunday. Not bad for a bunch of "foreigners"

I really liked the "Northern Soul" articles description of how Morrissey uses humor in his lyrics....Really accurate, I thought.

I think with this, like the "Houston Press" article, it is a little irritating to have articles vehemently start with "Why should we care about such an annoying man?" only to then go on and give (in this case) an accurate assessment of Morrissey's greatness!

If you want to eradicate the concept of Moz being uber-annoying and arch, wimpy, effeminate, etc, don't even bring it up, please! To a lot of people Morrissey might still brand-new to them, especially with the press YATQ has garnered-- Why let them in on the outdated misconceptions as well? Oh well...

by the Man, I can sympathize -- but both of these covers are Horrid.

One major faux pas (especially in the WNM cover) -- you don't change the notes of Morrissey's vocal melodies. Adding your own lounge singer-esque "spin" on the vocals makes it all the more unpalatable.

My singing-in-the-shower recordings would fare better.

Fucking incredible. Ryyan Lamey's version gave me goose bumps. So much heartfelt pain when he sings. The Rims were fucking terrible and I wasnt even gonna click on Ryan Lamey but my God Im glad I did. I have never EVER liked someone covering Moz or the Smiths but this really is so worth a listen. Very impressive and captures the pure heartbroken lonliness of the song. Well done Ryan, whoever you are.

Suffice it to say, no one should ever EVER cover Moz!

But, despite some of the ruder comments about the songs, I don't hear anything wrong with the quality of the performances. Just song selection.

And I would probably like The Rims song if it was anything else. I like the style.

Laney's style is more conventional. Forgettable. Sorry Ryan.
