Just got this email from www.olympians-online.co.uk :

Hi All,

Gene have confirmed that the Artistic Director of this years Meltdown Festival (that would be greying quiffmeister Morrissey..) has asked them to make a few appearances at the London event in June. Firstly they will be performing an acoustic show on the 25th June at the QEH, then on the 26th June you can catch them at the Festival Hall, this time with their instruments plugged-in. Oh, and if you happen to be at the Morrissey show on the 25th and are now cursing the fact that you'll have missed the lads playing, it might be worth you paying a visit to the Festival Hall main bar after Moz has finished doing his thing - you could be in a for a little surprise...

Tickets can be bought at all the usual places online, whilst details of the Meltdown Festival itself can be found at http://www.rfh.org.uk/meltdown/ .

                Comments: Hi kids

Re meltdown; we will be playing an acoustic set in the QEH at the same time as Moz (25th)...that's an event which meltdown will charge for....then after we'll ship over to Fest hall bar for a 45 min 'surprise' electric set for the Mozzer crowd. We will do the electric set only again on 26th. Both these are free because anyone can walk into the Fest Hall bar area..however if it looks as though too many Gene fans have turned up to see us there they may well close the doors because there will be 2000 people coming downstairs & it could be a bit messy! I think it will be OK on the night... they really want it for our fans in the QEH & Mozzer's fans in RFH....a kind of 'No Man's Land' WW1 knee's up for opposing sides...share a smoke, av a kick around, before back to the war!!!!!!!! It's the acoustic show that is the official meltdown performance! I like those because we can do stuff we wouldn't do normally...dunno what yet but I'm enjoying thinking about it!!

I ain't said this of course

        Subject: [NeverWalkAgain] Gene @ Meltdown

I just phoned the Meltdown hotline and they got very upset about the
fact that I knew Gene were playing. Told them I got it from a
website etc, and the guy on the phone line had a paddy.
Anyway, the Meltdown gigs are sold out, but the email mentions the
Gene boys are playing somewhere else ? QEH? If so is this a
        ticketed event?
I am quite prepared to spend my Friday night marching round the
Southbank surrounded by Morrisey fans jumping into the Thames,
looking for Mason fiddling with an accousitc guitar, but also have
        other fine plans.
On the other hand, has anyone any tangible information, that anyone
at the Meltdown wont give me?

  • Gene have been without a record contract nearly as long as Moz. They released their last LP on their own label in the UK (although I think they got a deal in the US for it) but seem to be unwilling or unable to do it again. They also have a dedicated fanbase (as Moz) and sell out venues whenever they tour (most recently three nights at the Islington Academy in February).

Come on Moz, sign them to Attack forthwith!
