Just read this in the Manchester Evening News:

Smith's Frontman in Frame if Manchester is Re-branded

Welcome to Manchester Morrissey Airport. it may seem like a flight of fancy, but the idea of a new name for the city's airport could yet take off.

The morose singer-songwriter of 1980s group The Smiths is just one - and perhaps more unlikely of a long list of Great Mancunians who could lend a little kudos and glamour to the two runways and three terminals.

Liverpool's Speke Airport named itself after John Lennon and saw its profile suddenly raised internationally and its passenger numbers rise dramatically.

Bosses at manchester Airport are keeping an eye on developments and admitted a name change could not be ruled out.

At the end of the article the paper asks who do you think the airport should be named after and invites suggestions to be sent to www.manchesteronline.co.uk/news

  • Please, please, please. Can we start a Campaign? Can we start a petition? Will you write to the powers that be in the City of Manchester? Will you contact Tony Blair? Oh forget about Tony the Phony. Can we start an online petition David T.?

Oh this sounds soooooooooooooooooo good. Will you guys be willing to put some work into making this happen? Will you actually do something?

The Greatest Mancunian Ever (he was voted as such) deserves to have the airport named after him. His contributions to Pop music were outstanding just based on the work he did with The Smiths. That he has gone on to have a roller-coaster, but generally very successful Solo career has only affirmed, confirmed, his status as a legend in his own time; one who will be remembered forever.

I really think this would be a fitting tribute, and I believe that Morrissey would bring incredible style to the airport. Surely, he & Linder & Jo Slee could get together and help in the process of creating something beautiful...for with that "WELCOME TO MORRISSEY MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT" name/greeting will undoubtedly come various tributes and homage to him.

And perhaps THIS is the place where we can really have our Smiths/Moz museum. A proper museum. Oh yes!! Why not? Other airports have museums (most dedicated to the history of flight) so why can't we have one for our beloved Morrissey?
