Legendary Smiths fanzine returns!

Influential British fanzine Smiths Indeed is making a surprise comeback in May.

The fanzine, which first appeared in 1986, was the original Smiths fanzine and during its three-year run became regarded as the closest thing to an "official" Smiths publication, endorsed by the band.

Smiths Indeed was created and edited by Mark Taylor, who brought together articles and rare photos of The Smiths contributed by fans all over the world.

The fanzine was sold by mail order and on Smiths tours and by the end of its run, it was selling several thousand copies throughout the world.

It had close links with Morrissey, who used readers of the fanzine in the video of "I started something I couldn't finish", including Lucette Henderson, who went on to star in the video of Everyday Is Like Sunday.

Smiths Indeed stopped in 1989 and copies have since become highly collectable, with early issues commanding high prices on the internet.

Mark Taylor said: "There has been increasing demand for copies of Smiths Indeed over the past year and I think the time is now right to reprint early issues for the new generation of Smiths and Morrissey fans.

"Since it stopped in 1989, I have had constant enquiries about Smiths Indeed so I think younger Morrissey fans deserve to see copies of the fanzine without having to spend a fortune for them on Ebay."

(davidt): The Smiths Indeed fanzines I got in the mail via an ad in the NME provided my first contact with the world of Smiths and Morrissey fans. The amazing quality and comprehensiveness of Mark's fanzines have been the biggest influences on me in working on this site and Morrissey fanzine ("Sing Your Life") previously. Highly recommended... I look forward to picking up the older issues I've been missing.
