The Motivators - Alain Whyte's new band in studio, UK gigs (June 13, July 1)

Pop Fiction, a brand new label, are pleased to announce that they will be releasing material by Alain Whyte's new band, The Motivators.

The band, who also comprise Gary Day and Spike Smith, will be going into the studio in the next few weeks to record their debut album, which will see the light of the day at the end of the year, to be preceded by a single.

The Motivators will be playing their first ever UK shows. They are:
June 13th - PETERBOROUGH The Metropolitan Lounge
July 1st - LONDON The Spitz (Pop Fiction Records launch)

    How can they go in the studio "in the next few weeks" when Morrissey is ready to record a new album?

      How deeply patronising. These guys, Alain in particular, have spent a LONG time waiting around for the possibility of a new Moz deal. Alain is a gifted songwriter and lyricist in his own right, as anyone who has heard any of his solo efforts or Johnny Panic material will attest.

      What do you expect of him? That he sits on this gift and waits patiently for Morrissey to call him...maybe? None of them are on contracts with Morrissey, they are not his "official" group...they have never been officialy recognised as being "his" band and in the latest interview Moz even said that Johnny Marr had never been replaced...how offensive is that to Alain and Boz who have worked with him for longer than Marr ever did and who have produced work as good as anything the Smiths ever recorded?

        Somebody had too say it but you just get lynched on here. Alain and Boz are as good songwriters as Marr. Marr is talented but tends to show off. The sole inspiration of the solo guys is to make music to tap your feet to, not just to show everyone how good you are.

            Two deals in a week, aren't we being spoiled? (Score:1)
            More good news... I have Moz records, a Boz record, finally I'll be able to get hold of some of Alains (records that is). Is the Johnny Panic stuff available in the UK? Good to see Gary and Spike involved too, Moz's current band have always been talents in their own right, they're like a little Rockabilly club.
            PS I know the Sanctuary press release says Moz is due in the studio soon but I'm sure I read that an album (or some songs at least) had already been recorded, did I mis-hear?

            I have been lucky enough to hear some of the stuff by the Motivators and its great,lets hope Morrisseys album will be as good.

            One Alain Whyte (Score:0)
            In my own less than humble opinion Alain Whyte is the best songwriting partner that Morrissey has had.

            My love of The Smiths is absolute and Marr is one of the greats but for me Alain has been responsible for many of my favourite Morrissey moments.

            One need only listen to "The Edges Are No Longer Parallel" to realise that Alain is a songwriter of phenomenal and unquestioned ability and quality.

            A nice man, a handsome man, a kind man and a songwriter/musician who stands head and shoulders above many of his more celebrated contemporaries including Noel Gallagher, Graeme Coxon, Steve Mason and John Squire.

            Just an opinion.

            I've heard his solo stuff and think it's fantastic. 'Much in the vein of Ed Harcourt or Damien Rice. I'm glad he's been signed, but wonder if it's not a mistake not to find band members from outside of the Morrissey camp? Shouldn't his solo effort appear more autonomous? I'd hate to see these songs relegated to "side project" status in the press.

             Everyday I have the blues!
            Alain and Boz have written some fantastic songs (Score:0)
            for Morrissey. the trouble is, the really great ones tend to be relatively few and far between. if Moz could have Alain and Boz's (and Spencer's if poss) very best musical compositions of the past 6 years, we could have a truly fantastic album on our hands. but if they're saving some of their best songs for other musical ventures, we may just be left with another so-so album like Maladjusted. you can't blame Alain and Boz for doing other stuff but you also really want them to save their very best stuff for him too! hope that doesn't seem too mean.

              I've had the pleasure of listenting to much of the Motivators new work, it is awesome. Alain Whyte is a musical genius. I can wait for all his fans to hear his work. Pop Fiction will take the Motivators to new heights, they are both COMMITTED to making this a big success!! I'm can't wait for some gigs in the U.S. The Motivators and Pop Fiction- You Can't Stop Them, You Can Only Hope To Contain Them!!!
