    Reel Around The Smiths (Score:1)
    It was a close call between There Is A Light, Back To The Old House (acoustic) and Reel Around The Fountain. I decided that There Is A Light would get plenty of support anyway and the studio recorded version of Old House isn't as strong so Reel had to take it plus the finishing of that song is so fantastic. "I doooooooooooooo"

          When I first started listening to The Smiths my favorite song was This Charming Man! Now, I can’t stop myself from playing Stretch Out and Wait, Queen is Dead and This Night Has Opened My Eyes over and over again!!

            i've always thought this song is a hidden gem, it's simply beautiful, .......i couldn't say it's my fave because all smiths' stuff is wonderful, but i can listen to "well i wonder" a million times in a row and never get tired of it,.....no words can do it justice....

            Golden Lights followed closely by Work Is a Four Letter Word.

            But seriously, There Is A Light will win by a mile, and deservedly so. But literally ANY song written by the Smiths could win it. I'd like to see I Wont Share You up there, aswell as Asleep. Perhaps even LNIDTSLM, RATF and YJHEIYB.

              Tough choice between 'This Charming Man' and 'there is a light...'. In the end I had to go with TIALTNGO though.

                It was really hard to decide. It's like having to chose between chocolate and... umm chocolate! But I guess this is my top 5 list:
                1. A rush and a push and the land is ours
                2. There's a light that never goes out
                3. Well, I wonder
                4. Frankly, Mr. Shankly
                5. I will let this one stand open cos number 5 could practically be any other Smiths song...
                A rush and a push... Damn, I LOVE that song - the way moz sings it - it's so filled with energy.. "AAAAAAA RUsh and a PUsh and the LAnd that we STAnd on is OURS!!!".

                  I always liked "What she said". It just stood out for me as sounding a little different. The guitar and drums at the end are fantastic! I always find myself tapping the beat.:-)

                      Well I Wonder is a hidden gem, truly.

                      Lyrically, the song is sheer genius.

                      What did you all think of Duncan Sheik's version of Reel Around the Fountain?

                      I felt that it was an honourable tribute beyond belief. Wonderful, heartfelt interpretation.

                      More artists should cover the Smiths's tunes- even if it is only a b-side or EP recording.

                        First heard this song 2 years ago, aged 17, thought it was amazing (hatful version). It has not aged. I must admit that I don't like the 'Smiths' album version.

                        TQID - Fantastic bass guitar, drumming, Morrissey's singing of the lyrics 'dressed in your mother's bridal veil' raises hairs on the back of my neck. Absolutely timeless. Oscillate wildly is underestimated, also Rubber Ring, Girl Afraid (great intro), Sweet and Tender Hooligan, Paint a Vulgar Pic, Stop me..., Headmaster Ritual, Barbarism, What she said, Bigmouth, this charming man (hatful), how soon is now.........

                        And the worst? Must be Miserable Lie

                                  ... I Know It's Over (the live version on Rank) was the song with the most impact on me as a sixteen-year old, and it still gives me shivers every time I hear it so I will vote for that one ...
                                  but it's a close call: my other nominees are: Well I Wonder, I Want The One I Can't Have, Still Ill (live), I Won't Share You, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, ... it's incredible how many fantastic songs The Smiths have ;)
