  • Better show than the Olympia one... less pressure on Moz's shoulders, much more friendly audience (singalongs etc). He played Hand in Glove (!!!!!!), the band sounded better.
    A really nice evening.

  • not a very good show, real lack of enthousiasm. Everything sounded "slow-motioned". very short gig, 1h15. I really liek this amn but this time i am a little desappointed. Even the band is in automatic mode...

45 euros for that is a rip off...

But yes, hand in Glove was nice, very nice.

  • The songs were the same, hand in glove remplacing late night, but in a bit different order - as someone mentionned, speedway was the 4th or the 5th one while english heart closed the set before the encore

Yes they played quiet slow but it seems to be like this on every show of the tour - don't you remember people complaining about too fast versions in some previous tours ?

I think the crowd was less excited than in the olympia which is too bad but the 2/3 drunken yelling brits were not there so the mood was less agressive somehow - i'm not sure i'm clear enough

Before ther is a light Morrissey quoted himself in "rubber ring" ...

I disagree with those few comments. I was in the RAH London, in the Olympia and Lyon. The Mutualité show was as good as the London ones, less emotion maybe (i dont know whether he was tired or not but the audience was not very reactive and he said several times "you dont mind", "no one minds" or "you dont understand". Most people dont understand his jokes and are unable to talk with him which is very disappointing in such a cosmopolitan town). The new songs are extraordinary powerful. You Brits will not recognise them when he is back. They are strong, heavily played and full of pugnacy. The first of the Gang is extraordinary well sung now and Irish/ English Blood-Heart better each time i hear it now. The rest was maybe less punchy than in the Olympia but this punch was a bit fake and for the film only. He added too much in his micro plays. Mutualité was a more traditional show, more intimate than spectacular. Speedway was soon in the set but quiet slow in the beginning and really catchy. Then came the big surprise : the perfect version of Hand in glove. And that was worth all the money.
The band plays well (except IWTOICH which they spoil each time now. I dont know why. Maybe it is the place as an opening, maybe they are just warming but i think that's the real disaster). Meat is murder was good but as i see it 4 times now, it sounds different to me. A bit cliché and overplayed with this dead cow attitude and Boz ridiculous tip toe to approach Moz and kill him with this saw-guitar.
Anyway a great show. A great great one. And this accept no contradiction.
There is still this attitude in the audience (i heard people talk when out) to say "that's was better before. " Before what ? Not one in a hundred knew the Smiths live. "The band is s***, real bullies". Which is now deeply rooted in people's minds. It is a traditionnal criticism which is unfair and doesnt stick to the facts. They are not brilliant but dont mistreat the songs and play with energy. Spencer is pale. Boz dances like a queen. Dino is great and Alan is as handsome as ever but a bit static on his righ side. That's a supporting band. A good one. Moz is the one who is looked at. The one we focus on. And he is majestic. I think young fans are surprised and disappointed to see him move that way (i mean the way he moves with the micro, those Quasimodo mimics and stuffs) which IS the way he always danced. That's a pity.

  • Exit Late Night Maudlin Street, but Hand In Glove instead. Morrissey looked tired and slightly bored. He said he was happy to be back in the most (last?) beautiful city in the world and added he didn't say that to be kissy kissy. The audience was almost sleepy, well it should have been more "enthousiaste" before the lights go in. But I enjoyed it anyway.

  • Morrissey was brilliant as usual (maybe you should not believe me regarding this, I llllllove him so I probably would find him brilliant even if he staggered drunk and voiceless onstage to perform his favorite bathroom tunes), still I feel a little disappointed that he gave up Mexico for Hand in Glove. I think we all know Hand in Glove by heart and furthermore, played by Johnny Marr, which sounded fairly different from Alain and Boz. (Please no offence, I maintain, Alain and Boz are good musicians and I like them the way they are).
Maybe I'm being a bore, I would have preferred to hear more new songs...

  • I've just read some of the comments of last night's show at La Mutualité. Many people say that the audience was sleepy but IT'S JUST NOT TRUE. I was near the scene, and people were dancing and singing. During "Jack the ripper" or "Speedway" or "Sister I'm a poet", the crowd was very noisy. The atmosphere was more electric than in the Olympia, maybe because "the not really fans" were absent this time. Moz didn't gave the impression to be tired at all, he gave marvellous version of "November" and a wonderful "Hand in glove". The sound was a bit better than a month ago in Paris. And to people saying that the crowd was not responding to Moz's jokes, I think it's not easy to understand jokes in a foreign language, isnt' it ? Anyway, it was a really nice evening, more punchy that in the Olympia, and it will be remembered as a nice evening. It's my third concert of the man, and probably the best one.

  • Found the atmosphere more intimist than in the Olympia .... Always a great pleasure to show him on stage.
I was a little bit disappointed there was no Union Jack in the audience especially we he sang "Irish blood,...."
Before "Meat is murder" he repeated three times "Charcuterie, Charcuterie, Charcuterie !!!!" pointing his hand like a gun .......
"Hand in glove " was perfect !!!!!!!!
"The first of the Gang ...." was really powerfull and well sung .
It was a great show, too short for me but you know we all could spend a night long listening this charming man !!!!!!!

There is a light that will NEVER goes out !!!!!!
    God bless you Moz !!!!!!!

  • I haven't pulled out all the old Smiths books, but isn't it something like 20 years almost to the day that Hand In Glove was written? It was released in May of '83, and the first Smiths gig was, what? November of '82? It seems like a complete possibility.

I'd love to hear it live. MP3's anyone?

  • No? Ok, then I will do this...In my opinion, Sack is one of the best supports, Morrissey ever had.

The singer from the band, Martin McCann is such a nice and funny guy. He always made jokes with the audience and the security guards in the first row during the gig and when the band played the last song, he came out with a sign and sprayed with black color "A la prochaine! Merci!" on it, put the sign on the stage and hided him behind it.

Then he put on a mask (looked like the "Phantom of the Opera"-mask and moved slowely from behind this sign to the top of it and smiled to the audience. Incredible!

The band sold their new CD in the foyer after the end of the show and all of the guys was very gentle.

In Paris there was a sticker on the gong, with "Paris a light, that never goes out" Someone cried to Moz "Morrissey makes graves" and Morrissey asked back, why he does make graves. Alain answered, that this sounds not very nice.

I have seen Morrissey at all tours since he toured from 1991 and I think, he was never in such a good mood as on this tour. He spoke so much with the audience, made jokes and played all the songs very powerful. He told the audience, that he lived in Germany and was the singer of the German band "Die Schmitz's".

Now I'm looking forward for London's Brixton Academy next week for my last Moz concert this year (but I'm hoping, that this will be not the last one in my life) and I'm praying for a new CD next year. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, LET US GET WHAT WE ALL WANT!!!

  • Well, I wrote the first "Anonymous" message of this page, and I really don't agree with some of the negative comments.

First of all, I'm french, sorry if my english is not very fluent. I think this "England for the english" attitude completely "childish and silly", really narrow-minded.
Morrissey deserves a better audience than these so-called "hardcore fans" (what is an "integrist fan" ? Such a pity to be one !).
Fortunately, there's a majority of people who REALLY like the guy, but they don't write here...

I was in the front of the stage, and I really enjoyed myself. The songs were maybe a little slower, but it also allowed the band (I like these guys too) to be more precise and to play better than at the Olympia (and remember the awful live renditions of '91 - I heard them on bootlegs of course, I'm just 27).

There was a lot of emotion last night, less pressure ; the audience reacted beautifully to some songs, "Jack the ripper" for example.

Kisses to everyone who don't feel "blasé". Enjoy !

  • Bonjour,
I just wanted to reply quicly to this charming "moneychanges" comment on how the people who don't get Morrissey's jokes in english should stay at home.
    Right.
    Very nice.
I am french, have been a fan of the Smiths from 1984 til they broke up and followed Morrissey's carreer since then, but as I am almost 30, I am not so "faithful" as I used to be. I like the guy, always did, but he's not some kind of God anymore...
You have absolutely no idea what it is to grow up in a french provincial town and to discover Morrissey's songs and to have to make the effort of the translation in order to really dig deep into what he says and what he means. I suppose that makes me more a fan than you are tralalala... Because you can't really be a fan if you don't understand his lyrics, right ?
Believe me, I'm sure many french people DO understand his lyrics AND his jokes...
On another hand, I'm sure Moz would not be so happy to only have english fans coming at his gigs. Oasis recently played in Paris and there were two thirds of english people attending... Very sad.
Morrissey has always hated France and particularly Paris, but I'm sure he probably knows his sells rate in this country, and he probably knows that some people here do understand the importance of being earnest, the delicacy of five o'clock tea and what happens on saturday night, sunday morning. Non ?

Un fan français un peu vénère, là.

  • I attended the Olympia concert the other day but couldnt make it to la Mutualité venue the 2nd time....Anyway I prefered it that way as it is way better to keep ONE good memory of Morrissey...I think I wouldnt have enjoyed it as much the 2nd time and so soon after the 1st gig I saw. yep the Olympia was my first concert. I have been a fan since I turned 11 who would believe it??!!
    I am now aged 25..

Well i was just popping in to say that I was thrilled to see french people enjoying Morrissey as much as i do. I mean I thought i was a loner in the french Morrissey wonderland. But seeing people around me enjoying it as much....Maaaan it felt good!!

    Long live Morrissey !

anyway, a question to the parisians. was there a promo in the tube to announce the gig?
