The song was released over a year ago and is now getting some press. Marie sends the link to the article at Ananova:

Song about Morrissey hits Argentina (Mar. 25):
A song devoted to the ex-Smiths' singer Morrissey, has become a hit in Argentina.

The track Morrissey is by Leo Garcia, who is reported to be a big fan of the Manchester star.

But the bulk of Garcia's target audience have no idea who Morrissey is.

Morrissey is apparently unaware of the single himself, according to a spokesman for Virgin in Buenos Aires.

Garcia told Ananova: "The tune was written during Morrissey's concert in Buenos Aires. I saw a couple in the first row and the guy kept staring at Morrissey, largely annoying his girlfriend."

Garcia's lyrics depict this 'bisexual game' between the two audience members.

He is an androgynous icon influenced by artists ranging from Britney Spears to Donovan and is fast becoming a superstar in Latin-American pop music.
The article was also picked up in the Apr. 1 Manchester Evening News (info from Shaun Goater) and at a O Fuxico, a Brazilian gossip site (link anonymously sent).

  • Don´t let that line about his inspiration from Broccoli Spears fool ya, Leo is much better than that... his second album, "Mar" is the one that contains Moz´s song and it is worth listening to it entirely. The album was produced by Gustavo Cerati (lead singer and guitar player for Soda Stereo, those into "rock en español" know who I´m talking about, maybe the biggest band in spanish-speaking América).
