Fran Healey (Travis) mentions meeting Morrissey and Michael Stipe

On Tuesday's show (May 8), Bernerd Lenoir (our French John Peel) said that the singer of TRAVIS got a big opportunity. While he was walking in the streets in LA he met a man who said to him "Come on I offer you a beer," and he was no one other than Michael Stipe! And a few minutes after being sat in a bar Morrissey joined them and so it is like a man who got the chance to spend a whole afternoon with his two big heroes!!!

I don't know, this one sounds false to me. I mean, I've walked around New York City for years now and all I ever got was a dishevelled and emaciated Ethan Hawke bumping into me at the Strand. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Call Of the Wild fan but he gives me no thrills. Yet, Stipe is bumping into Morrissey every other week in parking lots, having cofee and donuts, and now Fran Healy, Morrissey and Stipe drinking beer together one afternoon? Sounds fishy. I did like Travis' second album though, a great leap forward from the first. I think I will pop it into my portable right now and go for a bike ride. I'm insane with Jealousy.

I'm finding all of this rather strange. All these stars seem to keep bumping into Morrissey - Stipey, Fran, Courtney - yet Moz is supposed to be quite reclusive...

Stone me if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but maybe, just maybe they are planning a 'This is Your Life' starring our man. Wouldn't that be great ! I'd love to see the likes of Stipey cracking jokes and reaming of anecdotes about how he and Moz first met and their friendship. Or imagine the voice of Morrissey's old Headmaster behind the famous curtains "Remember me Steven, I might be ghoulish and belligerent, but I taught you how to be miserable you little tike..." Followed by lot's of laughter and warm hugs.

I must say though, if I ever met Michael Stipe like that guy from Travis did and if Morrissey were to then waltz in, well I would just be a puddle on the floor. What a lucky man indeed to meet two icons of our age.

Well, I underscore there "Fit to Print" part! :-)
Well, as Englishmen say: "No News Is a Good News", but we, Mozfans, would rather disagree... As about Travis: Travis vs Morrissey is the same as good old Guiness beer versus nauseating rice-made god-awful Bud... Travis has superficiously "pleasant", light and ultimately empty sound... So, if this "story" true, maybe Moz and Stipe were just high on something and too "far-out" to run to escape the unwelcome attention of the Travis guy or perhaps, that fateful encounter would never happen at the first place...
