John Emett writes:

I was lucky enough to meet Moz at last night's Doves show. He was acompanied by 2 girls, one Asian and the other American. He left with the two girls shortly after the show started, during the Doves 3rd or 4th song. I was able to talk to him for a minute or two, and although the conversation is a bit of a blur due to my nervousness, he did mention that he didn't really enjoy the Coldplay show.

Hello, this is Jose (mozgene) and last night I saw Morrissey at The Doves Show @ the El Rey Theater, Los Angeles CA. He was their for a short time, My friend John told me that he left after 4-5 song went Doves were playing. I was prepared to see Morrissey this time so I took my Morrissey LP World Of Morrissey and Morrissey signed it. Great show and great to see Morrissey.

I was at the Doves show last night, and since my ex-boyfriend (who was there with me) knew the girl who did will-call, she said that a 'Steven Morrissey' was on the guest list. I was talking to some Morrissey fans in line, and one of them had met Morrissey at the Stereophonics show the weekend before.

He had brought one of his Moz album covers for him to sign in the event he met him again.

I walked over to the merchandise stand to see what shirts they had when I noticed Mr. "El Vez" standing next to me. I introduced myself, and we ended up talking about Morrissey. He said he would be surprised if Morrissey showed since he had moved back to England...

While I was sitting down at the show, the guy I had talked to in line ran up to me with the album freshly signed. He had ran into him in the restroom, of all places! He asked him if he would sign it, and he obliged. I tried to see if I could spot him from the lower level (v.i.p. was upstairs, of course), but couldn't see him...

A couple of songs into the Doves set, some security guards freaked out over my camera, and they took me outside to remove my film. As I was walking back in, another security guard looked at my bag and saw my Morrissey patch.

"Morrissey? Oh, Morrissey was just out here! He left. You just missed him by a couple of minutes", he said.

I went back inside, just in time to hear Doves perform the song "A House". Singer Jimi Goodwin spoke briefly before starting the song. "This is dedicated to Steven Patrick... a long ways from home."

UPDATE (Mar. 10): Jeff writes:

This is an excerpt from the LA Times review of the Doves show in LA:
"The persistent drone naturally recalled the Velvet Underground, but such sprawling numbers as "The Cedar Room" reflected a cornucopia of influences, including Morrissey (who was spotted in the audience), New Order, Inspiral Carpets and Tricky".

American is not a race... just the same, the Asian girl might be an American, too... Sorry, it's just peeves me a bit when "American" is used to equate "White".

He seemed extremely touched by the gesture. I also assured him that I didn't slip him a rufie or something in the drink (not that I had one to slip, anyway). Later I looked over and he was drinking the beer!

Maybe after the first gig he attended (left during first song) he thought he'd give them another chance, and went to see them again. But alas! He found he had to leave after 2 songs. But obviously he wanted to give them another go... But sadly for him, he once again departed after only a couple of tunes. He hasn't learned his lesson. Funny bloke.

i find it very odd when some people feel sheepish about asking about my ethnicity--maybe they're half-expecting me to scream out "WHY DOES IT MATTER?" but i'm curious about background as well. i don't think this is circumstance is limited to visible minorities, meaning non-white because i have mistaken non-white persons for being white and vice versa plenty of times and i don't feel as if i'm disregarding their individuality or anything stupid like that when asking them to elaborate on their familial roots.

i agree that had both of them been white there never would have been any mention of 'race' in the story submission..but to be quite frank i'd have assumed they both would have been white--yes, even despite the hispanic connection of los angeles. maybe that's because morrissey himself is a white mancunian. *shrug* it's curious how no one takes offense when various european groups are distinguished from being "american". (ie--if someone wrote, "say, i saw morrissey with an italian guy and a white american girl" i'm sure no one would be raging on about the racist presumption involved in not considering if the guy might've been an italian-american, or just plain american).

in any case, unlike a lot of people i don't see anything dangerous or unjust about distinguishing race unless there's some explicit negative connotations attached to the race itself in a person's mind--but then if that's the scenario that mind is likely a misguided wasteland anyway. mind you, this does not mean race should be the end-all and be-all of our judgements about people. and i think it should be clear to anyone that there's a big difference between someone who does that and someone who merely notices race. if you as a reader associate negative connotations with the word "asian" (is this inferior to the word "american"?), that is your own problem.

p.s.-i understand that the idea behind a lot of these complaints is that taking notice of the "asian" being "asian" (is that not what they are, race-wise?) was like measuring against some white majority, but is that not what america is comprised of? a white majority? let's see some statistics here. regarding the complaint about reducing the woman to being merely "asian" and condensing her into only a race-issue, disregarding her value as an "american" individual see the long winded paragraphs above.

well, that's enough of me being a blowhard for now.

I'm sure that whole Vauxhall, Bona Drag thing was a media misinterpation. I think this firmly proves his virulent hetrosexuality. I can now comfortable sing along to any Morrissey love song, even wide to recieve, heck even Handsome Devil, while feeling not the slightest bit uncomfortable. The words can be directed towards women, cause they were written about women. Wonderful news, it should the headline.

"Last 20 years just some big misunderstanding."
Sources close to Morrissey have citied seeing him drinking beer and partipating in multiple women lovefest in the the hills behind his LA home. Proving clearly that he in no way enjoys homosexuality. He says "I was never fuken gay. Grant Showbiz, told me once Gay had one of the highest dispensible incomes of all the Worlds population. As a growing band needed to sell records I sold to that niche, as well as anyone." Asked about the gay bars " I never knew they were gay bars, I'm well read, too well read, I thought they were a franchise, Happy bars, I took the known definition of the word gay. I kept going into get a pint at the Gay (Happy) Bars around london, learning only years later who was around me at those bars. "The Flowers all that other stuff, simple really, after the show, I'd give them out to ladies in exchange for sex. Its a great trick I'd recommend to other guys. Flowers, get you skins." Morrissey explains why he hasent been seen with many women in the past. "Its a personal custom of mine is to never get too attached. I meet women, everyday, I get to know them intmately in a matter of hours, after that its on to the next girl, the reporters always came when I was leaving the hotel alone. Thinking, oh look never a women with Morrissey. But the women were always still upstairs collecting the 20 pound note from the dresser while crying hysterical. I am a female heartbreaker. I am what I am. But at the same time, I didnt want to rub it my fans face. you know? Look here I am a pogo stick for the worlds most beautiful women, and my fans are out there counting thier own birth as a sexual experience. You cant rub it in thier face. I mean have you seen my fans?"
This reporters has and concurs with Morrissey on that note. Well thats the news for today, Morrissey red-blooded Hetrosexual, tommorrows news, Morrissey enjoys daily helping of steak. "I know I said Meat is Murder, it is, but what people misundertsood is I like Murder, preferably meduim to well done murder, with a side order of sour cream."
