Morrissey signings next week (New York City, Los Angeles)
posted by davidt on Thursday October 12 2000, @08:00AM

I haven't received any official announcement regarding the NY in-stores but it is definitely happening. Someone named 'Virgin Marketing' posted this in the comments section of a previous article and it seems accurate:
From Virgin Megastore
Come by the Virgin Megastore Union Square (14th & Broadway) TUESDAY OCTOBER 17TH, starting at 9:00am, to purchase your copy of the new Morrissey DVD "Oye Esteban". With the purchase, you will receive your V.I.P. pass for an EXCLUSIVE signing with Morrissey on FRIDAY OCTOBER 20TH AT 5:00PM. Pass quantities are limited. Passes are limited to one per customer!! Morrissey will ONLY sign copies of the new DVD. No pictures with Morrissey will be allowed (sorry). Thank you and we look forward to seeing all of you on the 20th!
As a reminder for those in Los Angeles, wristbands for the Virgin Megastore Sunset Morrissey midnight signing on Oct. 16 will be distributed tomorrow morning (Friday) with the DVD pre-purchase.

Have you thought to sit and actually come out with a good CD rather than re-sell your "gretest hits" over and over and over again? You were once my fave but now Im afraid I have changed my mind. And Don't forget where you came from, you aren't hispanic, though you wish.

I sort of get it about the pictures (I do not completely agree with it, though) , maybe there are going to be too many fans and too many flashes... But the other part of me does not get about why not signing his previous records. And the later is the dominant part.

I still would go if I could, just to see the man in person, even when I do not agree certain issues regarding the signing thing. But I would be exigent for a personalized autograph on my "Oye Esteban" DVD.

I still admire and respect the guy's music, but I feel very simpathetic about those upset. If he was the one who asked about the "No Pics No Signing", I think he should reflect about his actions, and look at people like Peter Gabriel, for example, who is a superstar (who, unlike many superstars, still makes good music and knows when to retire and come back), yet still is very warm with his audience.

If all 300 people are allowed to take a photo, get a hug and tell Moz their life story, how long would you all be standing out there? Everyone is so damn selfish! You probably wouldn't be whining about the NO PHOTOS restriction if you were #295 in line and everyone ahead of you was snapping away with their cameras as they pleased. Go ahead and snap all the goddamn photos you want BEFORE you reach him, just don't hold up the line, you self-centered shithead. And I love how you all jump to the conclusion that it was Moz's request not to have photos taken because "he doesn't like the way he looks now." Actually, he's quite robust and BEAUTIFUL these days. And all this crap about him re-releasing/repackaging... this is not HIS doing. It's Reprise who's reselling everything, not Moz. He'd rather record a new album and tour. Why do you assume he's doing this for the money? Let's say he makes $2 off each DVD sold (which he probably doesn't even since the record company divies earnings out to so many hands). Wow... that's a whopping $600! What the fuck is wrong with you people? He's shelling out 10 times that amount to go to New York so your sorry asses can meet him. Why don't you channel your bitterness towards the greedy record execs who aren't keen to sign anyone outside of the boy band mold? Stop ruining this nice moment for everybody else just because you're an utterly useless moron.

Which makes me wonder about the following:
how many minutes will each of us be allowed with Moz?

If indeed 300 people are allowed in, and allowed 5 minutes chat, that makes about 1500 minutes (25 hours). That won't work. If each is allowed 2 minutes with Moz, that will still take 600 minutes, or 10 hours (one minute/fan then takes 5 hours, by deduction).
                                  Poor Moz. Poor fans.

Moreover, are we sure that 300 fans will be allowed? Sure, Virgin and Reprise will have a small amount of wristbands for their "frequent flyers" , so I wonder whether that will be 300 fans plus, or 300 minus ...

I have worked in-stores for such bands as Korn who signed for 12 hours straight without turning anyone away. This is how you sell records. Morrissey is nipping himself in the bud by setting these limits-and he is setting the limits. So what! By doing so he will lose fans as we see from this site. That is not making money people! Cut him some slack. He knows exactly what he is doing. If he really wanted to make money he would release a new cd and a dvd at the same time and sign for 24 hours. He is losing money by limiting wristbands. That is less dvd's sold. Get it! I myself am a huge Moz fan and will always be. I will be at the NY signing and am just thrilled that he is doing them. Also, 3 years is not a long time between cd's. You all act as if you are waiting for a new Elvis disc. Just shut up and quit whining!-------Moz forever!
