Is any one SICK TO DEATH of reading which bands are / were influenced by morrissey or the smiths? Honestly, 4 out of 6 news updates today are bands saying how much they liked the group. Fan-fu.cking-tastic. Harvey Danger, Placebo, Go-betweens, spearmint, Noel Gallagher, the list goes on. I know news from Moz is pretty slow right now, but how about we quit getting posts about this stuff!

Also does anyone care if morrissey is name dropped in the back of a magazine? Or on a game show? How about keeping the Morrissey new to Morrissey himself.

As a long time Morrissey/Smiths fan, I must say that Harvey Danger are a complete letdown. I've seen them play numerous times around town and while the singer, Sean, is indeed a nice person, he lacks the uniqueness of Morrissey or any other cult artist. My feeling is that he tries much too hard to be someone other than who he actually is, and would do himself a favour if he created his own persona instead of borrowing others.

unfortunate as this may be, it's painfully true.

anyone can listen to morrissey and call him an influence - you, i, or anyone else. but only a few can actually take that influence and mix it in with their efforts to create something good and worth listening to...people like stephin merritt, for example.

harvey danger is not a part of that few.

they are just as bad as blink 182. they both suck!!!!!!

...and they're musical influences are totally shallow. They sound like bad Sebadoh + bad Pavement + bad Nirvana + bad Morrissey. Now none of the ORIGINALS are bad at all, but when those HD jokers combine them, they combine the worst, cheapest and cheeziest elements of those "inspirational" bands. They are worse than lame-- they're mediocre. Plus, Harvey Danger don't realize they are a joke band, and that's the biggest joke of all.

I guess I should just run out & spend every dollar I have on this band cause I read about them on Moz-solo?? I bet Moz doesn't even know, or care who they are!I WANT To KNOW ABOUT MORRISSEY-SOLO what is being put out on cd,dvd,vhs,new news etc etc.& Ilove voting for the latest pole.I LOVE this site! So a show of strength by saying lets keep are standards high! Is not being negative.

This whole board is sad. If it's a band everyone likes, everyone posts about how happy they are that they mentioned Morrissey. But if it's a band not everyone knows, or they just know one single, then they all rip into them, and say the site shouldn't waste its time.
Harvey Danger's first CD was not all like "Flagpole Sitta," which possibly would have made them a "joke" band. That was just the single, and it was overplayed. The rest of the album was creative, sometimes funny and always good. Besides, the guy who posted this in the beginning obviously likes them, so why must everyone insult him?
And I, for one, do like hearing what musicians were influenced by whom.

This is not intended to offend anyone, but if someone's sick of hearing about who was influenced by Morrissey/The Smiths then they simply shouldn't read/ignore the post(s). This is David's creation and I would assume he makes the final decision about what'll be posted and what'll be omitted. If he approves a news item (even if it's about how someone was influenced by Morrissey/The Smiths), then I would assume that he feels that it's of some interest/relevance to his visitors. Don't think that I'm against people who've posted that they're SICK of these type of postings. This is after all a discussion board and no one should be denied the opportunity to express themselves.

On the subject of bands/musicians not sounding like Morrissey/The Smiths if they were influenced by him/them, I think it would be pretty unoriginal if a band sounded like him/them. It's easy to reproduce something, but it takes talent and sophistication to take that and incorporate it into their own style(s).

Before you give "Harvey Danger" too many Moz-a-philia points consider the following: I use to work with their drummer, Evan Sult, on a Indie-zine, "The Glass Onion", and distinctly remember him contributing the following remark to a consversation about The Smiths and Morrissey: "I'm glad I didn't listen to The Smiths when I was growing up -- they seem to fuck you up in a very distinct way." He never articulated what this very distinct way was.

whew...I can feel the negativity from here! And all this from people who have probably heard one song from Harvey Danger, which was played quite a bit on MTV, so therefor they must be sellout, publicity hungry bastards and worthy of your wrath. I totally don't understand why everyone is down on this great band. You all obviously haven't listened to their new disc, which I personally think is great. Sean is an itelligent songwriter and very energetic when he performs. Don't hate them because they are fans of Moz. Don't buy their records because they are fans of Moz. Just give them a chance, judge them on their own merits and actually have a listen to their music before you rip them to shreds. I hate Belle & Sebastion, but I'm not going to waste your time telling you why I hate them because you don't care!!
At least Harvey Danger release new records, which is more than I can say for the Mozzer. I for one am tired of the never ending reissues and compilations. Step up to the plate and get in the studio Moz!

Yes. And yesterday, I used the phrase "Harvey Danger is a fat lard-o" like 249875482 times. I lost two friends because of my phrase. That is news worthy because one of my friend's mother knows some journalist who writes for Details magazine knows this kid who owns the Australian version of Viva Hate. It's true.

oh yes, i did notice that. thank you for letting us know. can you tell us which exact pages of the trade journals "alabaster" is mentioned? has anyone seen martha stewart doing a ripoff of the color alabaster in her paint swatches? i believe her paint swatches with the description "alabaster egg" appear at over 560 K-mart stores nationwide. i'd be interested to know if anyone on this site has procured an alabaster egg swatch. please let me know. i'm so interested. and if you have it signed by morrissey or harvey danger, i'm willing to buy it off you.
