I've been wondering about this as well. It's only been played live once so far and no one really made a big deal about it. I mean, I know not EVERYONE likes it, but surely there must have been a fan of it at the show who could tell us how it went..

Haven't had time to go through every last tour report and set list, but am I correct in assuming that Birthday has only been played once?
I didn't see any comments about the live rendition or thoughts about why it was dropped. And of course it's the one song that has no Youtube footage. Damn!
Carol seems to have stayed in the set list, which is great. Loved the video of it at Carnegie -- until it was taken down.
Any morsels?

In my opinion, maybe, just maybe Morrissey finds it a bit of a strain to sing, or doesn't want to risk a sore throat after the brouhaha at the start of the tour. :blushing:

hmm but the end of "Im okay by myself" sounds such as challenging for his voice as does his oh oh `s in birthday...and he sings im okay ny myself on the tour every night..

i was at the DC show... and i was worried that Birthday was going to be the Camden of YOR. (the beautiful one that never gets played...)
when they played it, we couldn't tell what song it was at first. the intro was a tiny bit off. when he started singing, everyone in the crowd (around me anyway) was floored. i cried like a baby. that was the one song i was dying to hear, AND they played it right after they had played You Say You Don't Love Me. a one-two punch of awesome!
it's a beautiful song.... and moz sang it beautifully. that being said, i have a theory as to why it hasn't been played since.
the song is in a weird time signature. and the vocals and music were out of sync for the first chorus. not irretrievably so, but it was a bit odd. it was maybe hard for him to hear the song, because the lyrics are not really in the same time signature as the music.
i hope the song will be brought out again! but... i think they need a few more chances to practice it before it happens. i hope to see them knock this song out of the park!
hopefully someone has a bootleg of that show, as i would love to hear it again. it was stunningly beautiful.

i love them both in exceptionally different ways. but i had just feared that it would be an epic song that would never see the light of the stage. it was an honor to see the only performance of it (so far... still keeping my fingers crossed to see it reappear!)

I was really hoping to hear it last night.
My brother's BDay was Friday, so I wanted to call him during that song!
Yesterday was a better day to be standing in line than today would have been. :thumb:

oh, the rain and cold that chicago had today would have been awful! it was quite lovely outside yesterday, by comparison.
my birthday is next friday, and i'll be in dallas for it! i will keep my fingers crossed that he'll see fit to bring it back!

Yeah, so was I, cos since he didnt play Carol towards the end, I thought he may have switched that for Birthday, but I still enjoyed hearing Carol.
Definately! We would all be soaked if it was today!
