...sounds like a Culture Club song...maybe because of the background singers' sound.

That's all I have to say at this time.

as much as that should probably put me off, i still really really like this song, both versions and find myself singing it to myself a lot. particularly, "...would you like to know my inside leg?"

Well at least my thoughts don't change even if I don't remember them.

Bought "Hello Angel" yesterday because I just had to buy something from the second-hand shop, and was re-acquainted with "PHTCAL" by Morrissey/ Street. The sleeve notes say that Morrissey recorded a version for his first solo album. No wonder it was left off. What a STINKER it is!

I totally disagree.

I love the song's tongue-in-cheek tone.
Jones recently posted a thread about pastiche which Morrissey should revisit in his future project.

It's a good song with great lyrical approach to loneliness. Sandie Shaw also sung this very well.

I forget who it was.. either Stephen Street or someone at the record company told him not to put the song on the record. I think if no one told him, it would have been on there. It doesn't really fit the sound or vibe of the album so it's a good call.

The opening bass line reminds me of Man Eater by Hall and Oates.
