Well he was supposed to get $16,000, 100 cases of beer, and several cases of meat.
He didn't get the payment in full and went to the police to complain about it.

Type of meat nor beer was specified. Could have been hamburger meat and Pabst Blue Ribbon. Or it could have been Kobe beef and Moosehead.

Interesting.
I would have felt pretty damn good about myself had my Dad made a deal like that.
My Dad only wanted to occasionally use my boyfriend's Bass Boat in exchange for marriage to me.

Hahahahaha!
One of my classmates in college liked to brag that during a trip to the Middle East, her dad was once offered 100 head of cattle in exhange for her hand in marriage. In reality, she wasn't worth more than 5.

Yes they do. A very good friend of mine (whose family is from India) traveled all over the USA meeting other Indian women. It was arranged, but he had choices.
I would have been better off if my Dad had arranged something for me.

On a serious note....This is yet another argument for ramping up efforts to curb illegal immigration into the USA. Most of these people really do not mesh well into American culture and have no intention of assimilating into it. I want to keep the USA - the USA. I mean this story is just ridiculous no matter what country it's coming out of but human rights violations like this should definitely not be happening here.

I'm not pointing the finger at a particular race or ethnicity....rather, it's the type of person who is likely to come over illegally that may not have the most to offer this country.
I'm sure there are white trash in the USA who have/would sell their children for a couple cases of Budweiser too.

I worked at an upscale Mexican restaurant as a server and they ran circles around my serving. They weren't great conversationalists with the customers but they damn sure got a lot of tables taken care of. My big thing with many of them is their unwillingness and opposition to assimilating into American culture, learning the language, etc....
They come here and they want this to be Mexico. And it isn't. And they should appreciate that it isn't and try to assimilate a little. But many/most don't.

NRITH, it is widely held that immigrants of the 1800s, early 1900s were generally very proud of having made it into America and couldn't wait to become official citizens, adopt this new exciting culture, etc...there are exceptions to the rule of course, but generally that is the way it was.

Dave, the purpose of allowing immigration into this country is not only to help the unfortunate from other places but also to get people who may add something to this country. There is *so much* illegal immigration by people on the side of the unfortunate rather than on the side of those who have something to offer that the balance has become seriously skewed.

I don't get the connection, though. You know that undocumented immigrants don't usually sell their children for beer, so that's my point. It's two different subjects.
And the way that the US has stolen land and exploited labor both in the US and Mexico makes it difficult for me to have anything other than sympathy and even respect for people that are trying to have a better life. Why should they respect the law of a country that robbed their people? Seriously.

I really like living in the USA. But I guess I'll never be part of your "it" as I'm not proud of any country, any history. I'm proud of my own achievements.
And I always thought that being proud of being born of a certain race or nationality is for those can't accomplish anything by themselves. So race and/or nationality is all they can "brag" about.
I am I. You can't define me through nationality. And I would die of shame if you could.
But then again, your point has nothing to do with illegal immigration.

Dave, I couldn't agree more that we should stop exploiting cheap, Mexican labor. It is wrong for a whole host of reasons. It makes second class citizens out of illegal immigrants, which reminds me of the days of slavery. It circumvents the free market labor system we pride ourselves on. It cheats the system. That is why I cannot understand why someone like George W. Bush who proclaims himself such an unflinching protector of our free market economy is in favor of implementing undocumented labor.
As far as us stealing Mexican lands, etc...
The problem with us feeling guilty and/or making reperations for something that happened 150-200 years ago is, where does it stop? If we do that, well why shouldn't not only us but the Canadians, Mexicans and South Americans leave the American continents altogether and give the land back to the Native Americans? Then when we get back to Europe, we will shortly have to retreat back into central Europe and give western Europe back to the tribes who initially inhabited it. Then, we will have to regress further and further back and where does it stop?

OK, fair enough.
I'm from the Midwest; but I almost gave my children to a stranger at the grocery store last Thursday afternoon.
this 'Midwest' you speak of...sounds like an atrocious place!:p

I don't hate Mexicans, Robby. And I never said I did. And why do you always bring up these nameless, faceless 'others' when trying to say that you have support in your opinions?
If you don't you shouldn't single out Mexicans when you're talking about illegal immigration. The US has all kinds of illegal immigrants. Mixing up Mexican+illegalimmigration+proudtobeanamericanism+ US's"noble"history proves that you know very little about all these things.

My point isn't that we should go back through history and right all of the wrongs. Obviously, I never had slaves or stole any land from anyone. I was just saying that I see the point of view of those that are in a disadvantaged situation, and I would see things differently if it was me.

...we should round 'em up and send those dirty sons of bitches back to Mexico.
Those are obviously not my words. I don't think they are dirty nor sons of bitches...and I don't think they should be rounded up. I just think we should give massive fines to those who employ them.
Oh my god, it's Robby!

Flax, obviously the vast majority of the USA's illegal immigration issue is over Mexican illegals. And to deny this reality is simply politically correct and time-wasting silliness.
