Haha! Well, not really. It wasn't an explosion, unfortunately. Just a leak.

Are you suggesting that Tio Flaco is squeezing Morrissey's skull? You're a chemist, right? Is chemistry squeezing Morrissey's skull?

The usual apologies if this has been asked/addressed before, but does anyone have any information regarding the 'Something is Squeezing My Skull' video?

Thanks.

Unfortunately no news at this stage.

Suppose they're making one.

Hopefully it may get Channel 4 exclusive 24 / 25 April.

Oh please, just take any one of his more recent videos and over dub it with the audio to 'Skull'. You would not even be able to tell the difference.

It would be of the same quality.

Oh my god, it's Robby!

seriously, why does he even bother?
i mean it seems clear he does not really like making music videos
which is ok by me
but if he did, it might help with sales
maybe

I have some wonderful (and not too expensive) ideas for videos he could make that would be a million times better than the ones his people crank out. I've thought hard about this, actually. The videos I'd make for him if I were a filmmaker wouldn't even require much of his time, really. Less than the terrible things he's making now.

It makes me wish I really were a filmmaker. :[

I was wondering about this the other day, actually. I so hope it's not another 'All You Need Is Me' type video...I want more videos along the lines of the beautiful vid for 'The Youngest Was The Most Loved'!

I think the storyline will involve the band playing their instruments and Morrissey singing. Just an hunch.

The video is directed by P. Almovadar. On location in Majorca. It involves matadors, Palma cathedral and Morrissey writhing round naked on top of two nuns whilst worshipping at the altar of a black madonna. Called David

In an explosive finale Morrissey rides off on a donkey. Into the sunrise. On Magaluf beach. Brandishing a Buffy Saint Marie record.

Pretty certain there won't be a video, as there aren't even new b-sides.
Real shame he didn't release Carol.
Radio 2 is the only proper national station likely to put a Morrissey on their playlist, and 'Something is Squeezing' is just not a Radio 2 kinda song.
An edited version without the annoying last 45 seconds or so would've stood a chance...

This one is directed by Michel Gondry:

Morrissey is dressed all in white. He's in some long-forgotten sanitarium (with crumbling walls, rusted pipes and little bits of outdated, tortuous technology lying around). The ocean is nearby.

He is singing his tale to a medical board, who are trying to decide whether Morrissey is fit to rejoin society, or whether he is still a danger to himself and others. It's clear that things are not going his way.

While he's singing, little bits of story (the taxi incident, something involving a rescued lobster) keep cutting into the narrative. It becomes increasingly evident that Moz is deranged with grief. All of a sudden, he bolts and makes a run for it. Some guards catch his shirt, which peels off, allowing Moz to scrabble, bare-foot and bare-chested, along the cliffs, tears streaming from his eyes.

Eventually he is caught, but by this time he is so hysterical that he believes himself to be free and cradled in loving arms; it is really the sanitarium guards who have caught him, however, and are wrapping him in restraints.

Moz laughs hysterically into the fade...

A good idea but verily much like Squarepusher's Come On My Selector.

Good video, but different narrative entirely.

It's true, asylum stories are a bit cliche. The one in my head for "Skull," however, would be funny, whimsical and tragic, like Charlotte Bronte meets Buster Keaton on the set of "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest."

Who am I kidding - Morrissey singing in front of the band will be just fine.

Aw, do share some of your ideas?

I think it would be possible to make a great video just using Flash animation (something beautiful, not wacky) over a black and white video of Morrissey singing the song. Imaging, for example, some really well done animation of vines and flowers growing out of the ground and wrapping themselves around Morrissey as he sings. This wouldn't be all that difficult to make happen! A few artists here and there and you've got yourself something great... All he had to do was come in and sing.

That's just one idea. There are tons of wonderful things that could happen to make a Morrissey video that wouldn't involved Walking, Dogs, Eye Shadow, Diving Over Things or Strange V-Neck Sweaters.

Ahm jus' sayin'.

I've always had the feeling there have been plenty of music videos directors who have approached Moz with plenty of great ideas for his videos but he being the freak control that he is, he's refused his ideas and so we're left with one crappy music video after another, quite sad really cause the music is great and I'm sure some great images can be creater around the songs.

I listened to this song in the car today. :guitar:

I'd use lots of pugilistic / bleak-yet-beautiful / punky images. Lots of grit and grrrrrrrr, but still beautiful, like the album.

Rapid-fire quick cuts on the beat as the end nears, to shake things up a bit.

Also, I'd make sure a taxi was utilized in some way.

I don't want to see Morrissey acting out some sort of cheesy narrative in a video. It's not what he's about as an artist and this is not the eighties. The video is dead.

It's not to do with him being a control freak - the video's are rarely his ideas. He just doesn't want to spend more money than the bare minimum. Simple as that.

I always thought lack of money was supposed to be a great spur to creativity. Not with our Moz, unfortunately. Perhaps it would be different if he didn't have the money as opposed to simply choosing not to spend it.

All that being said, the fact that Morrissey resolutely refuses to participate in the 'pop video culture', other than doing what he must, is quite revolutionary in itself.

I think it is known to all Moz fans that our Mozzer doesn't give a toss about music videos, I am with him on this one as who the hell needs a video , as long as the song is good. When i look at music videos of other artists i feel like saying : how on earth can you possibly make something so disgusting, so much rubbish around !!!
Cheers Moz

It was posted last year (http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/showthread.php?p=1000158#post1000158), but hidden in a thread. 'S okay.

Those skulls are great stress relievers. None of mine have burst yet. Was gonna give one to Moz, but the git probably wouldn't appreciate it.

Di presciently made a photoshop of something squeezing Mozzer's skull (http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/showthread.php?p=791459#post791459) well before the song debut.
