Of course I don't know Morrissey's motives for his backstage rider requests, but I suspect the "no spice" thing may be related to his singing.
My best friend was an opera singer, and if you've ever spent any time around people whose voices are the center of their being, you know that they are hyper-aware of anything that could adversely effect their vocal performance. Spicy foods are just no good for someone who is about to sing.
I wonder if Morrissey is as nonchalant as he pretends to be about his voice.
Having this in mind while browsing Beyonce Knowles' rider may draw a chuckle.
Note the various "HEAVILY SEASONED!!" annotations. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/beyonce/beyonce1.html
Or Celine Dion requiring potato chips. Wouldn't make a scratchy throat would it?
My first post btw. Hello Forum!
