people illegally downloading an album and then creating poor advance notice because they're all a bunch of whiners. putting the record down doesn't make you sound intelligent, though I guess bitchy music fans are never going to get that through their heads, particularly when it's music that is slightly outside the mainstream.
The record sounds great. No lie. If I didn't believe that I would be quiet, but it is so much better than the last one, and it's exciting to hear it.
Oh my god, it's Robby!

I think it's great. It's Not Your Birthday Anymore has an especially strong melody. It's ok not to like things. I don't like everything he ever did. My point was that we influence his potential to have a hit, and a lot of comments I heard were the same old thing about not liking Jesse. whatever, it's just boring. Critics are parasites and fans that are too cool to like something are boring.
What I'm trying to say is that I haven't heard any criticism that was really valid. The production is slick, like Quarry, and I'd like it a little more raw, but that's just personal preference. If Morrissey likes working with Jesse and if Jesse can tour the world with him without pissing him off and getting canned, he has to be doing something right.
Anyway, not trying to make it about Jesse. The point is, if you got a new Morrissey record for free and you don't like it, go play the new Britney or some hipster shit or whatever the NME thinks is the best band ever this week. Don't kill the chances for a hit just because you are jaded. Morrissey has recorded a lot of great songs and it's difficult for a new release to compare with the best of his work, but this is a solid record and I am loving it.

Oh, so if someone doesn't like the album, they're a whiner? Hmmmm... interesting theory, that one. I liked Ringleader and most people hated it, but I would never call those who hate it whiners. They just have a different opinion than I do. If I want to say that I find this album disappointing, I'm just expressing myself. I'm not trying to influence anyone else's opinion. And I'm certainly not saying that because I think it makes me sound intelligent. I don't need any help for that. ;)
Yes, certainly, YOUR opinion on the album must be the right one. I'll keep in mind the next time I listen to it that it's a great sounding, exciting record that is so much better than the last one, because you said it so it must be true.

no, you sound incredibly intelligent. "I got something for free and I am disappointed in it. I think that an artist owes me something, and should make his art with my opinion in mind." Makes perfect sense.
Opening week sales of the record will influence the record companies' decisions in promoting it. Taking something for free is fine, but then complaining about it afterward? Go listen to Pete Doherty or something.
Nowhere do I imply that my opinion matters. I'm simply letting you know that your statement about being disappointed is boring and pointless.

The funny thing is you new exactly who would hate the album. The ones that whine about every little thing he does. It's actually getting a much better reception on other websites. Just ignore the obsessives who can't let go.

Not really true. Maybe on this forum but not in the real world. ROTT got better reviews on average than YATQ (yay Metacritic).

Get a load of Dave, ordering everyone to praise the album or shut up, plus his absurd concerns about how we're gonna ruin the album's commercial chances by criticizing it.

Why are you telling others what they've gotta do? You're showing your control-freak tendencies again. This is a message board, the purpose of which is to provide a place for people to post their opinions. If we're not allowed to post opinions about the brand new Morrissey album, what on earth is Morrissey-Solo.com here for? (Perhaps some were under the false impression the site is here for their rogue activities?)
There's no doubt people's opinions of an album will change over time. They can post those opinions over time, too. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
This silly thread belongs in the 'Sty, where we could poop on it the way it really deserves.

There's no trolling outside the Pigsty, Dave. Please refrain, though I know you're always in "troll mode" nowadays (so tiring).
Thanks.

Regards if something is free or not, you can still question or indeed praise the artistic merit of something, whether it be music, theatre, literature etc. I haven't downloaded it yet, and don't intend to. However, from the songs I have heared already (the 2 singles), and the live performances, I feel I will enjoy this album immensely.
