at the end of please please please he threw out the shirt and a big tussle started between about five or six people, one of them me. it lasted a pretty long time. i think the guys had left and then returned to the stage before i finally managed to rip a piece off. i can't be sure though as, having not eaten anything all day and drank only a few beers in line, i started to feel really dizzy during the melee over the shirt and when i finally got a piece i started trying to move back towards the doors so i wouldn't have to wait for everyone else. i got knocked over by someone pushing through towards the front, puked water on someone's shoes (sorry) and left to spend the next ten minutes throwing water on my face and dry heaving in the bathroom, mssing first of the gang.

I’ve seen Moz live three times, two of then from shirt-throwing distances, but none have ever been thrown in my direction. But to be honest I think I’d much rather have a handshake. I’ve seen the fights people can get into over shirts and I would rather just enjoy the whole concert than have a little piece of a shirt to remind me of a concert that I’ve just missed half of, trying to get that piece of shirt.

It’s all about the memories.

A "Je Suis Morrissey" shirt landed next to me at the Hammerstein and I backed away as fast as I could. I didn't want to get injured over a shirt. Memories and good photos are more important to me. At the end of the show, the roadies were throwing the towels out and I got one of those instead, which was just as good to me. The smell was just glorious.;) It lasted for a few months and now has faded.:o

A friend of mine caught one of his shirts on the YATQ tour and it's in top nick.


However,for me, the shirt throwing is one of the least appealing parts of a Moz gig. The fury,greed and anger that comes out is horrible.(bit like the Woolies sale but worse).

The last time at the Edinburgh Playhouse was most nasty and ,really a bit depressing.

i'm 4 foot 8 morrissey threw it and i jumped up higher then i thought physicly possible got in a tumble with 6 others held on to his shirt with my teeth a security guard had to cut it, happiest day of my life.
kept it in my wallet as a keep sake. i lost my wallet a month later in Reading station, worst day of my life

then I have a much bigger black piece that Skinner and I, working together, managed to rip away from a big group of crazies at the first Hammerstein show. we split the piece in half. a while back i met this guy who was a Morrissey fan and i thought i really liked him, but it was actually the vodka making me think so. and so when i agreed to hang out with him a second time i gave him a piece of the black shirt cuz i thought thatd be cute. then i realized he was a total weirdo, and i wanted the piece back, but whatever. :rolleyes:

anyway, the moral of this story is, don't give up when people are trying to rip a shirt away from you during a show. and dont give pieces of your shirt to guys you dont know later on

i have them both in ziplock bags in a drawer. the black one still smells

I got a button off one in Atlanta 2004. He had ripped the shirt open, I saw buttons flying, and figured there must be some lying around. So after the show I hung around and spotted a button near the edge of the stage...I asked a security guy if he could give it to me.

I'm another one who'd run a mile from any fight over a shirt, but I do actually have a piece of shirt from Bradford - not sure of the year now. One of the security guys got the setlist for me at the end of the show (first time I'd ever got one of those in all the years I've been going to Morrissey gigs!). Then a guy who'd got a large piece of shirt in the scrum came over and offered to tear off part of the shirt for me in exchange for the setlist. :)

It smelt lovely for the first few days (he must soak them in cologne or something...) but the smell eventually faded. :(

its a fantastic fragrance ! My shirt catching stories are as follows :

barrowlands 2001 - black shirt with embroidery on the chest - myself and 2 scottish lads got a healthy chunk of shirt that we struggled to keep for ourselves and amicably decided to split it between us after the encore , with the kindly help of security i ended up with a decent piece of collar , shoulder and chest . I stuffed it down my trousers while leaving the venue (it was glasgow after all - ha ha - will be back there in may) . I framed it along with a picture from the gig and the ticket . I apologise for this next bit ... I sold it on e-bay about a year later ... I know , i know .. unforgivable!!

Halifax 2006 - A fuckin brilliant gig - heaving and intense. Bonus of tiger army as support too ! anyway , the buttons were casually undone .. then the rip , rub and toss ensued . Like slow motion it flew over the first few rows as I rose up like a centre forward and plucked it , whole , out of the air . Then THWACK !! I was floored by about 6 fuckers ! We must have tussled for the whole of the gap between last song and encore ! I gave up when a fuckin dickhead meathead in a floppy sun hat pulled his fist back and bellowed "let go of that shirt or i'll smash your fuckin face in ". You are the biggest fuckin prick in the world you cumsplash wanker !! I ended up without the shirt that should have been mine and almost without my own shirt - " thats my shirt you've got a hold of !!" i kept saying . I ended up driving back to newcastle in a buttonless little pink number (thats the shirt not the car) .

so there you go : had one - flogged it . Shoulda had one - lost it !

We literally fought tooth and nail for our pieces.
In the end I left with a sleeve, and the part with the button holes, my friend Antone got a shred and some buttons, which he always keeps in his wallet, and my friend Emilie got a shred also.

I got a small piece of the Je Suis Morrissey shirt at the Wednesday night show of the 4 show stint at the Fillmore in San Francisco, last year. One second he was throwing it, next I had my hand wrapped around someone and was clutching a part of it. Finally gave up holding on to it as there were at least 6 others not wanting to let go. I waited around though and another girl who had a piece had a security guy cut off a piece of hers with a key, I think, and gave it to me. Since I waited patiently and was not crazy mean like some people. I have it in a ziploc bag now. Still smells a tiny bit.

At the G-mex the whole shirt landed right on my head, it was promptly ripped right from me. I just wanted to settle for part of it and other people could have a bit too. The idiot, bald, massively obese security guy came over with a knife, cut some bits off and never gave me any. Infuriating.

after i got punched in the face and a girl digging her nails into my hand while fighting for that flag that was thrown on stage an moz threw it back out...i grabbed a whole collar and button from the okc show in 2006(also first handshake) and the night before i got the whole front right side piece that i split into 4 for my other friends i was with. No shirt for me but in Austin last week when he handed me the microphone I asked for his shirt. Morrissey goes "can I have yours?" and I started to pull it up and then he goes "better not - it's Easter" which I thought was hysterical. So that's sort of a Moz shirt story. Heh.

I caught a maraca at the Ritz in the early 90's. I was about halfway back and it hit me in the face (and hurt) - but I crouched down and didn't let go. It's in my son's room and he plays with it from time to time.
