Henry Rollins owes me a rim. I was listening to his radio show one evening. I had just gotten on the 110 toward Pasadena from the 10 and I had to decide between “Downtown/ 4th Street” and the actual freeway which for some reason was confusing at the time because I was so engrossed in the story he was telling. I ended up driving over the median and doing this to my rim. See where the metal is curled back? I seriously shouldn’t even be driving on the tire but it still holds air and this was many months ago. I tried busting the metal off but it requires cutters or something so I forever have proof of my indecision idiocy. As far as Morrissey, I think he’s being facetious. He strikes me as being a very gentle person but he owes me a rim.

see i have an opinion on all of this and its kind of a combo of what's been said....

I think there is a def possibility that he's joking, but I think as much as we want to believe we can live in a world where these statements can be seen as an ironic comment on our society, not everyone will read it as joking, I thought it was rather homophobic as well, and I know language is "just language" and maybe he's trying to make us aware of this but like i said, not everyone is going to see it and think "wow, look at how he's making us aware of our langague and gender in our society..."

what's scary about what he's saying is unfortunatly in our society there is a very strong ring of truth, for those of us who are minorities, its not funny because even if i personally do think Rollins is trying to be clever I also see and more importantly feel that unfortunatly a lot of people do sound like him for real out in the world.

I actually can't bare to watch it, and not for MOrrissey's sake or anything weird like that, but for my own as a gender "different" individual or whatever you want to call me...the clip scares the hell out of me. and if that makes me a pussy to Rollins, i'd have to ask him if he knew a damn thing about being a minoritied individual, and if he doesn't then how can he presume he'd be able to be ironic about language used against them?

I think the whole thing is tongue in cheek ... Rage is a program here in Australia on channel 2 every weekend and each night they have guest programers come on and pick their own video clips to play on the show that night, theres no way Rollins would waste time given to him on air to play a clip of someone he really didn't like. There might be aspects about Morrissey that annoy him but given Rollins' well documented sense of humour and love for going off on over the top rants, I think this was all a joke ... personally ANYONE who gets Morrissey played in Australian TV is awesome in my eyes because it never.ever. happens.

Actually, I know Rollins from the old days of Black Flag in L.A., circa '78/'79, when I was a musician myself (and still am) and working with Wire, and Music Express, and guess what: HE'S GAY HIMSELF! NO JOKE! I did not see this mentioned anywhere else in the thread, but he came out years ago. If it was in the thread, I missed it, sorry. :guitar:

Mars_Rover
November 21, 2008, 05:45 PM
No, he isn't - or so he says:

"It's not even annoying," Rollins says about the lingering Henry-is-gay rumor. "It's just so funny to me, because where that comes from, for somebody being gay is a bad thing .. to say, ‘He's gay,' like it's a putdown. To me, you come out of the chute, you're something. You're straight, you're gay, you're bi, or you're Condoleezza Rice.... To me, it's about as interesting as talking about laundry. It's really not an issue."

He also attributes the rumor to the fact that he's very discreet in his relations with women: "I'm not making a public display of my heterosexuality." At 43, he also has never been married. Still, he says, "All this anti-same-sex marriage legislation, I can't stand it. It offends me on every level."

he meets for a tv show in ny
where he talks long about his girlfriend he never gets over.....hmmm?
http://www.avantimedia.de/engl/ddn_neshat_rollins.html
he did talk most of the time....which is a shame cause shirin is very talented
the show is called durch die nacht mit/Au coeur de la nuit
shown on Arte a french/german channel
good show
artists meeting in front of the camera for the first time and strolll along a city
some guests parings were for example
Asia Argento and Joe Coleman Franco Nero and Fred Williamson
Bruce LaBruce and Jörg Buttgereit(gore-filmmaker) , Carl Barât and Adam Green
Bryan Ferry and Dieter Meier(yello) ,Benjamin Biolay and Karl Bartos (kraftwerk)
some where i dont remember the pairing:
Michel Houellebecq
Rosa von Praunheim
Julie Delpy
Nikolai Kinski
John Carpenter and many many more
very nice series also avaiable on dvd(some of the broadcasted shows)
its subtitled not synchronisedhttp://www.zweitausendeins.de/suche/index.cfm

He's having a laugh. He WOULDN'T play the vid if he didn't like the guy. I read in an interview (if I can find it, I'll post it) where he commented that Moz is a real artist and how rare of a thing it is these days to see someone who is real.
He also commented that Moz needs to go out and get some sunshine and play Frisbee. Yes, he's always being sarcastic. That's his thing.

I think it's funny how morrissey trashed people all the time and when it happens to him so many people lose their minds and there is debate as to if this is a joke or not.

Rollins is funny. I never cared for his music but his spoken word stuff is funny.

If morrissey never talked bad of others I could see defending him. Morrissey has made himself a target.

Johnny Marr has publicly gone after moz calling him Dorrissey and saying he didn't bother to listen to his new at the time single Alf Wank.

I think it's time to crucify him for those comments too or just let it go.

I can't find it online, but I've read Mark Simpson's interview with Rollins, in which he hits Rollins with the gay question right out of the gates. Rollins calmly denies it, but does admit that strangers often have one of two reactions to him: they think he's gay, or they think they know him from prison.

I have so little patience with Rollins that I couldn't even watch this entire clip, but I recall him speaking similarly about Peter Murphy on 120 Minutes many years ago. He loves to bash a sissy. I suppose fear of being on the other end of it is why he's devoted so much time to making his neck wider than his head.

i guess it should be obvious by my nick that i admire some of rollins' musical endeavours quite a bit - black flag is basically my all-time favourite band (although i prefer the pre-rollins era). and my impression of the guy is he likes to give people shit (or at least did), whether he really likes them or not is pretty much beside the point. if he does dislike morrissey, i find that a bit weird, because they're really quite similar in a lot of ways (from my impression of them anyway). i could really see them hanging out and getting along very well. hell, if moz grew up in d.c. and got into weightlifting and punk rock, or if rollins lived in manchester and got into oscar wilde and kitchen sink dramas, they would probably be more or less identical.

it should be noted that i remember reading a recent quote by rollins somewhere saying that he liked morrissey and found him very funny or something along those lines.

speaking of rollins, i just saw this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vasIL6mtNIk&feature=related) the other day. if you need any further proof that rollins is a pretty funny and heavy guy, then i don't know what to tell you.

mywar,
I have that video where he tells the story of Joe Cole's death. It's heartbreaking. First he's talking with Joe about how great the evening is because they're going to watch Sylvester Stallone movies and they do impersonations,( which, Rollins does very well) of Stallone, and they go get the videos, go to the store for some food, and come back and have these guys order them at gunpoint to get into Rollins's house. If you read the book, "Now Watch Him Die" he goes into that. The first half of the video I have is of Henry telling funny stories about working in the pet store with Ian MacKaye of Fugazi and the girl Rollins had that crush on, "RON DA" (Rhonda) The bit about Mr. Bun Bun and the special goldfish for that kid - very funny. I have heard him say that he does appreciate Morrissey for his business acumen, and that he may not understand him, he admires him for that.
I've seen him at 2 Spoken Word shows, a Black Flag show in '79 in L.A. and I confess to owning all of his books. Rollins is the real deal.

This is pretty ridiculous. He never once mentions homosexuality, although points for coming to rthe correct conclusion that Morrissey IS gay, which some people are still in denial about. You have to perform hula hoops of logic and artful deliberate misinterpretation to view what he saiod as somehow anti-gay. What he seemks to be saying, and what i get is that rollins doesn';t really like morose, brooding music, or people, that he's an energetic, go-for-it kinda guy and that stuff turns him off. Honestrly I would pretty much expect that from (one of) the former singer for Black Flag. Morrissey IS sort of a professional miserablist, thats' just a fact. I shoul;d also point out that throughout his career Rollins has been a consistant defender of gay rights. Moreobver, i don't thionk he really dislikes Moz that much, like that guy said, if he did, he wouldn't play the video. As supported by the quote from the other rollins thread: "I don't hate the Smiths or the Cure at all. I think -- especially Morrissey -- is very creative and brilliant. It's that downward spiral, down in the mouth thing they had going for years which I could just not leave alone. I had to take a couple of shots at it. But I hold no malice toward either party at all."

"hula hoops of logic" sounds gay.

Morrissey isn't (http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la-na-sky27-2008nov27,0,2705284.story) gay.

I'm not saying that I know, but as he has said that he likes girls, I'm going to go with that. I think you're the one assuming you know his sexuality.

He has noone to blame but himself... if he didn't spend most of his time bashing "gay" people, there wouldn't by anyone questioning his own sexuality

the body-building/poetry thing just adds to it ^-^

He never once mentions homosexuality

No, he just obsesses about the negative qualities that are usually associated with it. As he's done many times over the years.

What he seemks to be saying, and what i get is that rollins doesn';t really like morose, brooding music, or people, that he's an energetic, go-for-it kinda guy and that stuff turns him off.

Yeah. Which makes him an agonizing cliché. A gym teacher turned motivational speaker.

I wouldn't necessarily say he's a homophobe, except by default. He's mainly a simpleton, and a ridiculous puritan. Here's his much vaunted "pro-gay" remark from earlier this year: "Never once in my 46 years have I wanted a dick in my mouth...Don't like a gay marriage? Then don't have one. Next."

This "straight, but not narrow" schtick is primarily an excuse for hollering that you're straight. Can you imagine Rollins using the phrase "a cunt in my mouth," or "a tit in my mouth"? He's expressing disgust there, but I think it's more because he's a puritan who's fixated on his own body than because he's a bigot. He's bigoted against anyone who isn't Henry Rollins, a west coast punk type, a dipshit with his Honda painted flat black. When I've heard him talk about women, he sounds sentimental to the point of being childlike. He has nothing to say about sexuality or style. The guy is not worldly. He's not sophisticated. He's a fucking moron, but some people find his self-confidence contagious.

Did I mention his music sucks?

on a side note, there's definitely rumors that rollins had a gig posing (solo, apparently) for a gay mag during the period right after moving to l.a. to be in black flag. the fact that such a magazine has yet to surface (to my knowledge), makes me think it's not true though.

I recall Rollins and the Beastie Boys (as The Prosecution) hammering Moz and Bongo out of U2 (The Defence) in the NME or the Maker, in '92 or '93. They said he apparently needed to get a burger, a tan, fresh air and a frisbee, and something about ''grease pouring out of his pale face'' but they were 100% accurate about Bongo.

I think Rollins has ''Billy Bragg Syndrome'', i.e. he constantly bitches about Moz because he secretly adores him.

The title of this thread is Rollins' favourite wank fantasy.

not to sound like i'm pushing my glasses up my nose with my finger here but...

homophobia often times has nothing to do with who someones sleeping with, so much as an attack on those who bend gender lines...it almost should be called gender something or another because...people can't tell who you fuck from looking at you but they can tell if you threaten the idea of your assigned gender. i

Roman above seems to agree with me. Kids get bullied in school (and it is a real problem) because they don't act there gender....not because the bully actually thinks the poor kid is actually attracted to a person of the same sex, nessisarily.

Though I in no way believe in censorship i think we have to be aware of our words and choose them wisely because there are people out their who are easily influnced, lost, feeling alone etc etc esp children.

I had a teacher, who was a mentor to me when i was growing up (still is) and he once joked about a women's voice sounding "like a dyke" because he used software to make it sound deeper, he in no way intended to make me feel uncomfortable (shit i didn't even understand my sexuality) but he did, and to think of it, he isn't a "homophobe" he just wasn't being aware of his language, or the fact he was surrounded by young confused kids looking for guidences.

so i think context of who's saying what, who they are saying it to and the format they are saying it in matters....i personally might find someone making a joke about someone not fitting their assigned gender in some cases but violent images as humor torwards them not so much...

i'm not going to speculate how or what he meant, i just think television is a media that one should be aware of ones word choices infront of...and that people should be considered and the way they might interpret things should be considered as well.

Ok, I searched through all posts about the supposed feud that Morrissey had with yet another pointless cliched mindless moron that is Henry Rollins.

But I dont understand, was anything actually confirmed,
stories range from Morrissey WANTING to go to the Rollins gig and asking for a VIP pass, Rollins denying him and shouting FUCK YOU at him

To Morrissey sitting in the crowd laughing at Rollins and shouting FUCK YOU repeatedly (which would of been rather fitting) But still like the other supposed happening just isnt very Morrissey-esque.

I know lately Rollins said he 'liked' The Smiths, but either way he's a pretentious, talentless fool who somehow believes that punks heyday was during East Coast and West Coast punk battles (between the awful straight-edged shaven-headed illiterate idiots)

Basically what I want to know is... Can somebody possibly end Rollins life now? Or atleast confirm a story... Even make up a witty Morrissey reply to Rollins.

YOURS AS ALWAYS....

Read again. I already know all of this, as stated above. My question was has Morrissey ever retorted to this..............................

I'm really confused about how this man percieves our beloved Morrissey.

Has anyone seen the clip whereby Rollins insults Moz as he sits in the audience?

Some articles I've read say that he admires Mozzer...Sorry if this is completley old news and digging up old graves as they say. I just wondered

I don't upset if someone slags off Morrissey.

Morrissey also says something rather stupid which trigers some reactions.

Oh c'mon people - he's only joking

He obviously loves Morrissey and England

I think it's funny when people miss the point - he's being ironic

Go on admit it - switch on your irony receptors - Rollins is pretty damn funny...

Rollins is a big fat meat head with a stupid bum chin

Ha ha! I am only being ironic!!!

Yeah, I was really upset when I heard him make fun of Morrissey the first couple of times. I was really pissed off, I love black flag, Henry, and all his books. I sent him a e-mail, telling him how much I hated him, and he replied, saying he was confused about whether or not I liked the music haha, I of course replied vigorously with apologies, and love...but still. I want to kick his ass for bad mouthing mozza
