But is is the weakest of all Mozzers (early) albums.. Despite your claim to 'Sing Your Life' which is one of my favourites also.. still, the whole work doesn't hold a candle to the 'Arsenal, 'Vauxhall, or 'Drag'.. It would beat 'Southpaw' though. (poor old scapegoat Southpaw!!)

Well.. yes, it would be appropriate.. but how do you interpret 'Asian Rut'.. we all see it differently..

God.. I can feel a 'Morrisseys politics, is he a rascist' discussion looming!! Just in a gentle way.. but I believe he has flirted with extremism and 'bad charcters' all his (creative) life.. for example, holding a fascination for the Krays etc.. He writes as he sees it but I don't think he holds those views, just observes.... But observation can be a dangerous thing when implanted in some minds.

(I best stop)!

It's definately an observation, but there is no way I can see that this can be intepreted as racsist, I mean Moz sings the song with such sorrow, and the lines "I'm just passing through here/Looking for somewhere civilised/Maybe I'll even arrive". People who see this and 'The National Front Disco' as racsist baffle me completely.

'Svengali In Platforms' is a dodgy play on words though, I don't see the need for that song, especially as I think it's one of Moz' weakest, the lyrical content is very lame.

As for the album Kill Uncle, well I love the first side, a couple of tracks on side B such as 'The Harsh Turth Of The Camera Eye' make hard work of going where it's supposed to go, nice idea definately, but it's a bit hard going that track. Overall I like it though it's got some very nice tracks on, definately an early hours chill out album.

It was me with the lyric, I knew it was a bit of, still got 'I won't share you' going in me head, wanted to use it as an example more than anything else.

I don't really agree with the lyric in 'Svengali In Platforms' good though it sounds, I mean the immigration system here is a joke, sticking immigrants in lovely liberal run down places in the North like Hull etc is a bad joke, but I would imagine most of the time it's better than the troubles they have left behind. I know some Eastern European lads who live near me in Sheffield, and they really like it here. Also most of the black and Asian youths wouldn't last 5 seconds back in the countries where their parents may hail from.

I reckon the lyric is more accurate when placed in the context of the 70's when racism was more rampant. Bradford, Burnley and Oldham is just about bigots on both sides acting the @#!!!. Relations in the main are quite good, there's just a bit of a nationalist backlash at the moment to all the tree hugging hippy direction that a lot of the youths come out with, me I hate all bigots equally regardless of their background, I do tend to find that Pakistani people are the most bigoted and ignorant because of all that Muslim @#!!!e.

Crikey I wish I did the best album closers poll now.

'Harsh Truth' is my favourite Morrissey song.... it's in the same adventurous vein as 'November Spawned...', long, dramatic, overdrawn.... love it.

'Bengali in Platforms' is appalling, though, a small-minded petty little song that Morrissey should be eternally ashamed of - for the sentiment and actual content.

As for racism.... until people can accept that racism from both sides is unacceptable, it'll never be beaten..... after all, rastafarians, for example, are incredibly racist. And violently homophobic, too.

It's the lowest form of ignorance - for whites or blacks.

Or Morrissey....

I'll have to re-study the content of this song and try and understand what it is saying..

Strong words russ... but you're right of course in many ways.. racism exists from whatever colour (indeed 'ism's' exist all around us.. fat, short, thin, gay, white, black, beautiful, ugly.. all sorts of 'minorities' will get pillaried by some group..) .. but I suppose I will never appreciate what it really means to feel violently suppressed unless I could, say, become black and walk the streets at night in certain notorious areas of London .. it would definitely be a different perspective of the world, in the same way if you could become a woman for a day.. on how the world you see changes, and what you would see in different reactions.. it would be a fantastic experiment. But quite scarey.
