View Full Version : Tell me all about...Morrisseys sexuality

Hey all
I have heard Morrissey reference himself as being neither homsexual not hetrosexual, rather as being 'A Sexual'
What do we think? Is it all a show? or will we never know. My guess is that it's the second, but there's nothing wrong in discussing is there?
Please everyone, I know we love Morrissey for who he is, so no need to go overprotective of him here, this is just a harmless discussion and analysis of a legend who we all love for himself, no matter what.
Thanks all
Dom

Dear Dom, this is something most of us are interested in and have discussed in details. Try to search other threads which have dealt with it, if you don't do it, moderators will. ;) And don't be surprised if long-time members ask you to drop this topic. It's nothing personal.
All the best and have fun!

I don't blame him for not having sex for a long time when younger, if I looked as hot as he did, I would never leave my room (if you all know what I mean) ;)

Okay, i know. Thank you for your kindness in all this. I will however start a thread regarding the transfer of threads (unless someone else has already done so, in which case the irony would be unbearable) just to see if i am being a bit of an arse wipe with my irritation or not. I am happy ot eat humble pie if people give it to me :-)

You really shouldn't be irritated though I know that it must be very annoying. It is, even for senior members, sometimes. Try not to take it personally, because it really isn't (or at least I hope it isn't). :) Maybe a solution is if you look up older threads and start using them again, to restart the discussion. Or not. Oh well whatever, just ignore me babbling. :o It's a free world, you can post whatever you want. ;)

The other thing is, and it is always nice to have new people here, things like tell me about Morrissey's sexuality will get you a bit of a slagging. Mostly people say let him have his own business and its been discussed to death so when threads like that pop up you would hear a collective sigh of oh no, not another one!
I am sure you can understand that Dom.

But i do believe he is bisexual. But he is a celibate bisexual(as far as anyone can know)...just like the lovely Stephen Fry.

Hey all
I have heard Morrissey reference himself as being neither homsexual not hetrosexual, rather as being 'A Sexual'
What do we think?
Dom
one a few frank comments he make about this sexuality directly in INTERVIEWS without tiptoeing the issue : stating that HE is attracted to both sexes
are these:
the first one was from 92
the other sometime in the late 80ties
AND one mention in a letter
guys
there is more than gay or straight there is still enough inbeetween these..ever heard of this thing called bisexuality anyone?taaadahh
OBSERVER 92
---The abundance of homo-erotic imagery in his lyrics and album covers (Your Arsenal, for example, shows him brandishing a microphone in a highly suggestive manner) should not, he says, be taken as a veiled declaration of homosexuality. 'I'm not running ahead and leaving clues hidden behind bus stops, as it were,' he says. 'One of my physical encounters was with a man. That was 10 years ago. It was just a very brief, absurd and amusing moment,' adds Morrissey, in his best Oscar Wilde. 'It wasn't love. I have never experienced that.'
Has he slept with women? 'Yes. I feel completely open. If I met somebody tomorrow, male or female, and they loved me and I loved them, I would openly proclaim that I loved them, regardless of what they were. I think people should be loved whatever their gender, whatever their age. I am open to everything. I accept that my experience is different from that of most men. But I feel reasonably normal. I don't feel like a freak. My world is bigger. I never lived in a small town with small morals. I don't want to take drugs. I don't, so far as I am aware, want to take part in activities such as group sex. I'm actually a reasonably conservative, boring person.' ---
2nd one exact date unknown (did copy it in from wordprog)
---- What about sexual... relationships?
"I don't have relationships at all. It's out of the question."
Why?
"Partly because I was always attracted to men or women who were never attracted to me. And I was never attracted to women or men who were attracted to me. So that's the problem. I've never met the right person." ----
EDIT
interviews post 87 in www.motorcycleaupairboy.com which were the interviews stem i quote
from he also talked a lot about " his preferences and personal life" in interviews in the french mag l"es inrocktibles" (SIC) between 87-´95 (esp the 95 one which is very personal) he was he was way more open with the french journos as with british journos these arent fully transfered into english i saw some tranlsation in a fanzine mag but they let out a few interesting lines which pop up in a book on moz i recently read
like mine in my post THE FIRST ONE is from 92
http://www.motorcycleaupairboy.com/interviews/1992/observer.htm
the other is one from nick kent
it did copy the kent article in the windowsworld programme without a time and date so i dont know the exact date the / date but it must be in the late 80 ties
from the ROBERT MACKIE letters (pen pal ca 80/81)
---Will you send me some pornography? Do you HAVE a girlfriend? Do you LIKE girls? I have a girlfriend called Annalisa. We're both bisexual. Real hip, huh? I hate sex. ---
member COMTESSE `s comment from http://forums.morrissey-solo.com/sho...ght=gay&page=5
--- I think that sexuality is a spectrum and that at one extreme are people who are exclusively homosexual and at the other are people who are exclusively heterosexual. Those people are in the extreme minority. Most people fall somewhere in between and, given the right situation and the right person, are capable of falling in love with someone of the same sex or the opposite sex.
I think Morrissey is bisexual on the homosexual side of the spectrum. He has always been extremely open and honest about his sexuality and the fact that he has been attracted to both men and women in his life. He has openly discussed going to gay bars and having been in love with a girl during his teenage years. I believe that he was in love with both Linder and Johnny Marr. I also believe that he and Jake were a couple, and that their breakup was one of the primary reasons that he left England and went into the "dark period" after Vauxhall and I.
I don't really think there's any mystery at all about Morrissey's sexuality - he has laid it all out in the open for us. However, lots of people in the gay community have a problem with bisexuality and, it's true, many people resent him because he won't "come out". But he'll never "come out" because he already IS out - as a sensitive bisexual man with a history of heartbreak and bad sexual experiences who chose to abstain for many years rather than risk further pain - and always has been, from "Hand In Glove" through "At Last I Am Born"... and onwards.
But... having said all that, I do ththank goodness for that. It's one of the most enjoyable aspects of his celebrity.---ink that you'd have to be blind not to see that gay culture has played an enormously important role in Morrissey's iconography and that the gay "experience" is one of his primary lyrical themes. Obviously, some of those themes are universal to anyone who feels like an outsider - that's why we all love him so. But there's a reason why such gay/bisexual icons as James Dean and Oscar Wilde are featured on his backdrop, or why t-shirts were printed with WIDE TO RECEIVE along the bum, or why that image of Robert Wagner suggestively jumping up behind Jeffrey Hunter was used as a t-shirt image and backdrop or why Spencer Cobrin licked that ice cream cone suggestively in the "We Hate It..." video. Morrissey loves to celebrate homoerotica - and Morrissey loves to celebrate homoerotica - and thank goodness for that. It's one of the most enjoyable aspects of his celebrity.---

what is a 'loud breather'?
Someone who breathes loudly, or nose whistles, or anything I find annoying. If he can sit still and watch the movie without annoying me, he can stay. I will stop the movie to make him leave if I can't concentrate because he's bugging me, I will not put up with distractions.
Note: this is all wishful thinking, because I am currently married, but a girl can dream of a peaceful life, can't she?

*New Kristeen Young Lyrics* (thanks to UncleSkinny)
He's Sickened By My Crude Emotion
Oh-Oh-Oh Let me send this note to you. Oh-Oh-Oh Then, you send one back to me.
Oh-Oh-Oh St. Louis sits on my lips. Oh-Oh-Oh But, my keyboard shoots from the hip.
I open with piercing pitch.
My next trick's Twist and Twitch.
Spill my guts in 5 minutes,
I'm fond of a flashy finish
So, I take you in my mouth, and throw you about to get a rise out.
He yawns. He sighs.
He's sickened by my crude emotion.
Oh-Oh-Oh. Now he sends this note to me. Oh-Oh-Oh So I send one back to him.
Oh-Oh-Oh Stomping ground can box your ears. Oh-Oh-Oh But, a note floats in the air.
He implies. He refrains.
He plays kiss-SLAP with a phrase.
His small talk's a Work of Art.
Those Brit boys love their discourse.
Me? I just want to scream, OH, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!
He yawns. He sighs.
He’s seen it all like crude emotion.
He laughs. He hides.
He takes my heart, my crude emotion

It's only debatable if you haven't been into him for very long. Listen to all his albums, Smiths and Solo, read the lyrics, read Morrissey and Marr, (Scandal and Passion and Saint Morrissey would probably be good supplemental material)...... And you will come to the inevitable conclusion Morrissey is gay. There is simply no other way to see it.

Sorry, I have to say that I haven't yet come to this "inevitable conclusion Morrissey is gay." Looking at everything he's said in interviews, I still see that Morrissey is more bisexual than purely homosexual, or at least open to having a relationship with a woman. (Hell, he could be heterosexual too!) Two of my best friends are gay men and they would never utter any of the words Morrissey has about being "open" to women. Nor have they lusted after busty pin-ups like Diana Dors. Maybe my friends are just "gayer" than Morrissey, but sorry, I just don't see it as an obvious thing at all.

Sorry if someone already mentioned this:
Has he slept with women?
''Yes. I'm actually a reasonably conservative, boring person.''

Well, that certainly gives us some hope... :o Though the interview is from 1992 and his views might have changed since then. He also might have been sarcastic when giving this interview, so heaven knows. But a girl can dream... :p

I think morrissey leans towards the gay side of bisexuality. hehe I'm not sure there is such a thing but, sorry Frinkers, thought he may have in the past, I just can't imagine him with a woman now.
Nevertheless....
Staring in the window of the
shop that never opens
planning my selection from
all the treats inside
should I take as I desire oh
shall I oh shall I
or should I hang around to be enticed inside.
I'm trying to explain to myself
I can have both
I'm trying to explain to the voice inside
I can have both
I can have both
There's nobody around to say no
who've brainwashed this small shy boy inside
he doesn't know
he can have both
Smiling through the window to the
one who never serves you
I've not been feeling myself tonight
should I take as I feel like it
well shall I oh shall I
or should I wait and hope to be dragged inside
I can have both
there's no need to choose
because I can have both
there's no need to choose.

EXACTLY.He` said this before that hes not particularly sexual but open to falling in love with either sexes.Which makes hi bisexual.
I'm not sure how i feel about bisexuals really. On the one hand it makes them very open un biased people who see the good and beauty in both male and female.
then again it might make them dirty little sods that just want to shag anything.;)

I love meat orgys. Cant ever get enough beef.
I think Mozza is GENUINLY confused. I just think he really doesn't know, which is probably why he has sometimes deemed himself a-sexual.
If he ever did do group sex i reckon he'd wear his glasses, as he only tends to wear his glasses when he's feeling depressed. If Morrissey ever wanted be loved that badly i reckon he'd have to be very near the deepest realms of sadness! ;-)

Maybe i should clarify. I have only got my opinions of him from a book called The severed alliance...and Saint Morrissey...The rest i have concluded from analysing his lyrics, which the book saint morrissey does to a great extent. He seems a very confused individual, and totally on his own. I think he's so lonely, or he thinks he is, so much so that he has made his own island of doubt and insurity of himself...one of that being in his sexuality...in my opinion :)

well as sweet as St Moz is it is written by a gay man (fan) who seems to project a lot of his opinions on to things Morrissey has said or "done" I do think it is rather sweet and I love some of his fan boy comments cause some of the things he thinks I think that as well. I think maybe a lot of your opinions to me seem to be Morrissey as a youth, I do not think he is that confused about life now. (of course that is my opinion)

Ahh yes, that is true. I suppose it's hard for someone not to be biased sometimes, even if they dont want to, as they can be effected by something like their sexuality. You could be right about it being his youth, i suppose i just quite like the idea of the "Mysterious Mozz" who is his own island... more romanticly tragic I suppose, lol, but that's me, heh heh.

If i got a penny for every time someone said that to me on live chat / forum. I dont look or type properly on something like this, but my spelling is appauling anyhow, i just use spell check, not very good i know, but i've never been good at spelling. Spelling isn't the biggest problem in journalism, as the magic spell checker comes in, biggest problem is how to be origional, and not sell out to the mass like NME do every bloody week. Ahh ok! That awsome. Well, as i said i only got an English Lit degree and am doing Audio Science now, i haven't actually done a journalism degre. I will most likely do short courses on it, but most of it will be off my own back and portfolio. A degree in it is a much better idea though, i am only doing it this way becuase of lack of time. There are a few unis to speak of, but it depends where you want to live and study, there are lots.

I was all set to do a Journalism degree, either in Coventry or Sheffield Hallam, but I spoke to my careers advisor at college and he persuaded me that it would be more useful to get an English degree, and then do a postgraduate Journalism course elsewhere. That's so interesting you say that's the way you were advised to do it, cos i had simillar advice but not from careers advice (cos i didnt use it unfortunately) And i thought it would be much better to have an all round literature degree, in order to get versed in the language and such, then learn the skills afterwards in a short course. That way i think one becomes more of a rounded individual. So you've probably got it right. Very much good luck to you ma dear. No problem about the links :)

Doing a literature degree also gives me access to a wider range of Universities - I found that when looking for 'Journalism BA', not a great many places offered it, and the ones that did were quite low in the national league tables. I'm doing Literature at A-level as well and I really enjoy it, so it seems sensible to carry on to degree level. So, atm I'm just working hard to try and get the grades I need, hopefully I'll be successful, and then we can have a go at putting the Tim Jonze' of the world out of a job :D
