I can't see why this is a big issue. Morrissey has every right to choose any picture he is pleased with. I personally think it was an excellent choice. A rather ravishing picture.
Also it not like it's a new thing for him to choose old picture of himself. I remember this one coming out in 1989.

I don't think it's a "big" issue. I, like many others, find it curious why he has used younger photos of himself. I think he looks great now, so why the younger shots? That's all. Not a "big" deal. You're really right: the photos he has chosen are "rather ravishing!":guitar:

I think it was out on the main page that someone suggested that Morrissey is the cultural icon featured on the new sleeves. Used to be Elvis, or Davalos, Shelagh Delaney... now, 25 years on, it's Morrissey he's evoking. I like that theory.
I doubt he will continue using the old photos for the new album. I hope not.

i dont think that he is making a statement of intent by using old or new pictures i think he must just save some images and use them when he needs them
its like keeping some songs by and releasing them later than when they were recorded
pesonally i dont like the cover of the new single , i like the promo cover more

I don't get it either, he still looks amazing and is as photogenic as ever....I mean, he was really good looking back then too...but...it reminds me of when old people show you pictures of how they 'used to look like when they were young'. He's too young to do that!

For me, it's worrying that he might not be sure about his looks right now. It worries me because I think he looks stunning, and if he thinks he's not good cover material NOW, what can we expect in the future?
But it could be that he's going back to using icons for his covers, and now he can see himself as one. A pop, beauty icon.

its more the case he cant be bothered doing a photo shoot when he has old ones he can use , it is a greatest hits thing after all so it doesnt need to be up to date
im sure the new album will have new pictures

He might be going for the nostalgic angle too, which I think is awesome.

I agree entirely with this point. I was about to post the same so thank you for drawing attention to it!
Granted, Morrissey's album and single artwork doesn't compare to the old days but the man would never put anything out without prior thought. It was only the other day that I noticed the significance of his "comeback" album's title; "Morrissey, You Are the Quarry". Fantastic.
But yes, I'm sure Morrissey is all too aware that he is to many people what James Dean etc. are to him and that's what he's evoking. Wonderful stuff.

i think it's entirely the record label's fault. they want moz to appeal to the teenage crowd to sell records. they feel that moz is too old to be advertised so they go with the old pictures that new fans are most accustomed to seeing from moz's old albums.

THANK YOU!! I was about to make a very similar comment. :D
I’d also like to add another point:
No one here seems to realize that a lot of these decisions are made by Suits without the artists input. Morrissey has been around long enough to know which battles are worth fighting. Seeing as this is a re-packaged Best Of Album, I suspect he is holding back from battling in order to have full creative control over an actual NEW album…or perhaps he simply doesn’t care. After all, this “new” “Best Of” CD is not about him as an artist per se, but rather an opportunity for Decca to QUICKLY cash in on their newly signed artist. :(

Hmm, i see you point about the record companies and all but i doubt they have much, if any, influence on the the cover itself. Morrissey has been designing them since Hand In Glove in '83 (not counting that REPULSIVE Very Best Of The Smiths compilation).
So as long as it's not something like this:

i'll be happy
MORRISSEY, USE WHICHEVER PICTURES YOU WANT.
Just make sure you keep designing them
