Mine, is ages away but planing ahead is always vital and my strong point. I remember my brother got given about 15 crates of booze and we left to stay with friends in Newcastle whilst allowing him and his mates to have the house to themselves, also he organised a little holiday in which him and some of his mates went for a week in some seaside town.

I want mine to be really good...talking with my mum about it I have decided to (as I have two different groups of friends) to go to Manchester or London with one of them and crawl round the pubs. The other group consists of one person...my best mate...so we have decided to go to Barcelona for a weekend and stay in a nice hotel :)

What did you do for your 18th?

Love PTxx.

I was finally allowed to drive.

My house growing up you had to satisfy the following requirements. Have already graduated from high school, be able to purchase your own car insurance, pay for the insurance increase that the parents took because there was another driver in the house, maintain the car and pay for drivers ed lessons. You also had to be over the age of 18.

My brother turns 30 this year and still does not have a drivers license and is actually quite rich. Me? I went into debt.

18th birthday though was nothing huge. Turning 21 was the 3 day party.

Yeah, but 18 in the UK is like 21 in the USA - the milestone birthday, 'coming of age' etc.

Tbh PT, If I was allowed

1. A one week pub crawl with a set of mates

+

A weekend in Barcelona with my best mate just for turning 18 then I would be a very happy bunny!!! :D

I am not even going to go into that issue.

We were raised with a very strict sense of responsibility. In some regard it makes me more mature than others in some aspects. In other areas it makes me a total ass clown so I can make up for time lost.

haha im not now. i dont afflliate myself with any religion. but i did go to Baptist school from kindergarten to 12 grade. then i went to a Christian college. halfway through college i started to rebel and question my beliefs. I did manage to stick it out though and graduate. since ive been 20 I have not considered myself Christian. I do hold some of the same beliefs but at the same time, let go of alot of them too.

That sounds like a sensible (if slightly harsh) upbringing. Similarly, I can't have a car, driving lessons and such until I have enough money to pay for them myself, plus insurance and road tax and whatever else. But that is more because, nobody else could afford to help, so ofc you do it on your own. Hopefully I will have a car by the time I am 18, before I go to university :)

Btw - "ass clown" = I love the USA :D

Ok, I understand. I have been raised as a Christian, but I don't practise as much as I probably should, and I rarely attend church. I don't think church is necessary to communicate with God. Anyway - I looked through the Old Testament recently to find some quotes for my RS coursework, and the more I read of it, the less I liked it. Unsettling. It made me question what I believe, too.

lol here we go...
Roman Catholic is my religion.
Public School Grades k-8
Private Catholic School 9-12
Private College for my undergrad
Public for my Masters
Various schools for my 30 creds above the masters

One of the minors I walked away from was in Theology. I took the classes in philosophy of religion, existentialism and various church history classes.

I think questioning is always good. the OT is tricky. I think there are passages that honestly are only relevant to that day and age. you have to have discernment. for example, the OT states that a woman should not be touched when shes on her period. but back then they didnt have pads or tampons. this makes all the difference in the world. either way, Amy, I suggest you keep reading and studying and come up with your own conclusions. I honestly believe that God wants us to question, study, and explore the Bible. he does not want us to follow blindly. :)

Do you think alternating between public and private education provided you with a more valuable learning experience?? Also, I don't understand the US 'grades', what ages are which grade etc. Did taking the class in philosophy of religion, alter your faith?

Edit: Since I didn't mention it in my earlier post, I am a Protestant :p

Absolutely provided me with a more valuable learning experience. If anything it has made me a better teacher. It allows me to take the best from both experiences.

The philosophy and theology classes taught me to examine the background of things more closely and also how to engage in circular arguments just for the sake of being difficult when I want to be.

Nah...
In reality it made me explore many things and think of things I normally would not have.

A boy in my RS class is exactly like that. I want to tape his gob shut with parcelling tape. Thankfully you are nowhere near as annoying :D

I had given up drinking for a year....so my 18th birthday was the date to start drinking again! Went our to lunch with my mum, her friends & my best friend...my mum ended up winning 4 bottles of champagne. She doesn't drink, so she gave them to me for the party that evening. It was just at my house with about 30 people. Don't remember much more than that! Oh yeah, I remember someone asking me for a cup of tea but we didn't have a kettle, so we made a cuppa using the microwave.

I gave up drinking for a year just to prove I could. I wound up going a little longer before I said whatever... I want a beer.

I am still hoping for Barca...and Manchester!

I keep having dreams that I am 18. Three great things about being 18 for me...holiday in Barcelona, a brand new laptop and being legally allowed to buy booze!

My 18th was rubbish....as were my 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd (was a bit better), but my 23rd will be GREAT :guitar:
I'll just pretend I'm newly 18 again ;)

I turn eighteen in less than a year. : o

The only difference you have when you turn 18 in the US is that you are legal to buy cigarettes and porn, but maybe if you're into that sort of thing it would be exciting. :p

I didn't really do anything. I just had cake (Baskin Robbins ice cream cake), and listend to all the new CD's I got for presents. Well I actually had to go out and pick out most of my presents I asked for, because my mom couldn't find them anywhere. We went to Best Buy, and I found them all. After that, we got the cake...........

It was only last year. I remember it like it was yesterday. I just turned 19 on the 22nd.

I really want my laptop...will save me logging on to the computer every day, plus I can go on solo anywhere :)

I just really want to be able to go to the pub aswell (instead of having to take a chance of getting served at Tesco)...already arranged a boxing day gathering. Ahh...boxing day is gunna be good...I get up, realise how amazing my gifts are, look foward to crap TV and great food. Then, about 11am I go with my brother, dad and auntie to the local cricket club for the festive game. Usually I would go home afterwards but this time I shall go with a couple of mates to the Roundhay Fox for a few X-Mas pints before heading home :)

Sorry, I kinda went of on one there!

Got hammered with my mates, so you see teenage binge drinking is not a new thing. It even went on all those years ago. Oh I say!!!
