Hi all.

I just picked up a copy of an NME 7" given away back in 85 that features The Smiths "What She Said" live in Oxford 18/03/85. I'm under the impression that it was meant to be included on the "What Difference Does It Make" single but was left off. I've burned it onto the PC and put up a link here if that's allright with you lot!

The What Difference Does It Make single predates this live recording by over a year. The Oxford Apollo performance was recorded by the BBC and was used as a radio show. The BBC recorded two Smiths performances, the second released as Rank. The b-sides to That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore are live tracks from this same Oxford show. It's the most bootlegged performance in The Smiths oeuvre.

Have these tracks shown up online yet? They are the last of the Oxford show that I've been unable to find.

I have this one, but I haven't digitized it yet. Maybe I'll get around to it during the holiday break, but even if I do, my stylus needs replacing and so any recording won't sound very pristine. Don't hold your breath.

IIRC, there's a copy of this up on eBay right now, being sold by a guy in Sweden. I think that the base price is US $25 + $15 shipping, which I just can't do right now, even though I was all set to pay $50 for the same thing a year ago. Bad time of year for it.

Are any of the tracks from this show that appeared as b-sides to "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" available online at all? I've been searching around the forums and can't seem to find....

Richard,

I believe you are looking for the following:

NOWHERE FAST (live)
STRETCH OUT AND WAIT (live)
SHAKESPEARE'S SISTER (live)
MEAT IS MURDER (live)

Taken from 12" That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore (5 July 1985)
Broadcast 9 May 1985 on BBC Radio 1 Janice Long Evening Show
Recorded live in Oxford Apollo, 18 March 1985

I'm sure if you search for them on here, they'll pop up.
