The front is fantastic! Serious. It looks as professional as could be. Way to go!:)

EDIE: Perhaps the font could be a little clearer (sharper)? But that is nit picking. Really nice!:)

LOL! Yes, his mighty quiff is intimidating, but size doesn't always matter :)

Maybe a simple "M" crest design would work. Save the quality photos/artwork for new material?

Great choice of photos, Modcon.

Here is my versions, front and back. I envision this using metallic ink, like a Pantone 8420C with a varnish (ya know, just to be different) Why? Because he's worth it.

This shot; it has everything — dynamic angle, orgasmic face, chest hair, subtle quiff, plaster (band-aid) on face, and knotted shirt with belly-belly poking out :p This photo tells you every you need to know about Morrissey.

I always liked how on the Beatles Abbey Road album, they didn't even put their name on the front cover. I thought maybe Moz could just have his "brand" placed in the corner.

What do you think?

I like the first two photos they're lovely an all (here it comes) BUT, me personally, Im over the whole pensive moz snaps that he's done in the past few years (Quarry, Ringleader, and all them singles) . Go walk around, take some snaps out an about. Maybe grab an old cover star from yesteryear, like you used to. We know what you look like Moz, give us an insight on whom youre admiring at the mo.

I really like the back cover, it's distinctive. Because of the shape it resembles a professional DVD sleeve. The front is good, too, but I'm not sure about the picture, it doesn't grab me.

Coming from my Morrissey Mistress, I appreciate the words of encouragement.:)

I think one aspect of the "Vauxhall Quiff Crisis of 2007" is I don't have a very good locker room quiff. It's fine around the ladies and in private, but get him in a locker room situation and the quiff flattens. It's all a terrible tragedy.:)

Very nice. You really did a great job on this. I like it alot. Especially the orgasmic face. They make good front and back covers or the 2 pictures together would make a great inside of a cardboard sleeve (like ROTT came in). Oh, and the extra track is brilliant.

I think the record co. should really put the effort in on this and come up with something special (as this) seeing as this is their first Morrissey outing and it is a greatest hits cd. Can't see it happening though.

I agree. the front and back don't really go together either. I like the idea of the back cover for a greatest hits. Morrissey wondering around a cemetery looking at all the graves as if they were his old songs form his past. Kindof like "Here lies Suedehead" and "In loving memory of the National Front Disco" (well you get the idea).

The above would be for the 7" of course. Here's my GH. I guess I'm going with the smoking theme. Hmmm.

I like yours alot as well. Really nice one. I like back with the 88/08 as well. Hadn't picked up on that before actually.

I like the idea of going back to a more Smiths style cover, but on the other hand with a Morrissey greatets hits I think it should have Moz on the cover. That's always been one of the differences between the covers of the Morrissey and the Smiths albums, they've always been about Morrissey (well apart for Southpaw).

Nice! I like the contrasting red and blue covers.

Question: so has the track list not been released yet? Is that why everybody is creating their own?

Me thinks it'll be heavy on YATQ and ROTT with perhaps a b-side like "Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice." Rhino already released a GH with tracks from the older albums, what would be the point in re-issuing the exact same tracks again?

There are so many of these Moz-on-the-floor photos and you happen to stumble upon the best ones ever! These sum up the tour in a nutshell. I love these.

Here ya go, a little more on the abstract side, but still MozI think showing his feet is a very unusual idea and express a beyond-the-norm viewpoint. It reminds me of those stories of Morrissey wearing his good shoes with the Chivas uniform and socks! That is so him!

Great job, jetboyla.

Worm, you have both writing talent and artistic talent? Damn! Do you sew your own curtains and make your own jelly perserves as well?

I like these photos very much. That Marlon Brando one is a pisser.

Great work, everyone. Let's see more!

-------Slow moving commentary approaching --------

Your choice of photos remind me how unique in style the Smiths album covers were at the time. I think using these kind of photos communicate to the viewer alot about the band's attitudes, aesthetic and cultural references.

Nowadays, the only time I see covers like these, they are on classical music compilations!

I've mentioned this once before, but its worth repeating; many of my friends who went into graphic design (or commercial arts, as it was called then) did so because they dreamed of being album cover artists; this was when album covers were a big deal and vinyl was the main choice for listening to music.

Once cassettes and cds became more popular, these great pieces of work were shunk down and even cropped down to the point where they would sometimes lose their original meaning. I think even the record companies, too, devalued the work of these artists and they viewpoints were often dismissed in favor of marketing "experts" and accountants. Morrissey's cd and single choices of recent day pretty much reflect this kind of malaise. I don't blame Morrissey for this. He was a young man at the time at Rough Trade and that allotted him as much control as he wanted.

Record companies today don't expect their artists to design their own covers; or if they did, not any more that a vote for yea or ney on comps.

CD/DVD design packaging is still relevent, but the folks I know that do it approach it differently now and are trying to convince music companies suits that people will buy cds if they are elegantly and creatively packaged, or if that have some sort of interactive quality i.e. contain moving pieces, stickers, ulilize unique materials, inks, papers or even textiles.

If music companies want to move units, they they should allow craftspeople to do what they do best and keep the marketers out of the studio with their dirty finger alway marking up the computer screen and spilling coffee on proofs.

Can you tell I dislike marketers? :p
