The problem to be tackled is whether all the record companies he has been on will authourise another record label releasing their songs:(

I made that comment in a previous thread.. It depends on the label releasing the compilation and how much they are willing to pay in order to license the material. Rhino was able to do a good job in compiling a collection spanning all periods of his career below

Yes, they will be from his entire solo career. There's no point in releasing an album with just the Quarry and Ringleader-singles, after all.
And as it is a 'Greatest Hits' rather than a 'Best of', let's hope they compile his GREATEST HITS, which would mean the following:
Suedehead
Everyday Is Like Sunday
Last Of The Famous International Playboys
Interesting Drug
Ouija Board Ouija Board
November Spawned A Monster
Piccadilly Palare
We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful
You're The One For Me Fatty
The More You Ignore Me The Closer I Get
Alma Matters
Irish Blood English Heart
First Of The Gang To Die
Let Me Kiss You
I Have Forgiven Jesus
You Have Killed Me
The Youngest Was The Most Loved
In The Future When All's Well
I Just Want To See The Boy Happy
plus 2 new songs.

I don't like that list. It duplicates the previous best of too closely, and doesn't even contain his best songs. I'm hoping for something more like the recent setlists.

I would rather have a decent live album from one of the US shows and possibly a DVD rather than another 'Greatest Hits' or 'Best Of'.

Funny you should mention that. To please his fans...Morrissey just announced that he has narrowed the cover down to two (2) extremely rare and unique photographs that he is sure will please even his most diehard of fans.

One shall be the tommy gun replacing the violin on the Ringleader picture, and then on a limited edition vinyl release he shall have him playing violin on the pink quarry backdrop. It could be titled Ringleader of the Quarrys.

I thought those live tracks were going to be the b-sides to "Thats How People Grow Up", or are they going to be on the album as well?

Rhino Records only had Island/Universal to deal with since Rhino is also part of the Warner Music Group which also owns Sire, Reprise Records, the labels that originally released all of Morrissey's albums in the US and Canada. And even then, this US compilation only included Alma Matters and Lost which are owned by Island/Universal.
It seems Moz's new record deal is based in the UK with wordwide distribution by several Decca/Universal Labels, if Decca/Universal were up to pay to include the Warner and or EMI years on this new compilation I'm sure they would but to me it makes more sense to release a best consisting of the Maladjusted, You Are The Quarry and Ringleader Of The Tormentors since Univeral owns these albums, but thats just my opinion.
Also, the new single includes the Live songs from the Warner/EMI years so anything is possible as far as other Music Labels getting involved on this new compilation.

Greatest Hits pretty much means Singles which got in the charts, is it not ? oasis were against greatest hits because of that reason. reason of the record company chose the 'hits'/singles sometimes without consent of the band. with all morrisseys singles though im guessing this could be a 2 cd release aswell as a 1cd including all the singles maybe even roys keen which was not a hit.
i bet morrissey does not promote the hits on tour though. im guessing he will stick to that huge chunk of songs from ringleaders :(

I really don't like this use of old photos of Moz younger. He still looks great and there are plenty of great pics of him not used yet. And as far as the song selection goes the following in my opinion is way better a choice to encapsulate his career so far.
And a little tongue in cheek twist on the title greatest hits.

Suedehead
Last of the famous international playboys

I seem to remember Prego or someone talking about the differences between the International version of the Greatest Hits and the UK version, but I did not find it when I did a search.
Here's what amazon.com says about the International version (costs $25.98 US)
Limited edition two CD International pressing of the 2008 collection from the former Smiths frontman features a bonus disc entitled Live At The Hollywood Bowl, which contains eight tracks recorded live in California on June 8th 2007. Greatest Hits spans Morrissey’s stellar 20-year career as a true original, and one of the UK’s greatest musical talents. Every song on Greatest Hits is a UK Top 20 single. Nine of these are Top 10 hits. Two new songs are included ('That’s How People Grow Up' and 'All You Need Is Me'), both recorded with Jerry Finn, producer of 2004’s widely acclaimed You Are The Quarry album. 23 tracks. Polydor.
The UK edition costs $44.99 US from amazon.com and comes with the same product description and exact cover photo. Why would anyone pay nearly double for the UK edition? Is there any difference? Or should I have asked, What difference does it make?
