Hi...I was just wondering if anyone else is going to try to go to the TJ show? I live in San Diego and I am going (well, if I can get tickets)! I know the border crossing can be a pain, blah blah...so I am just curious if any fellow So. Cal people are going? Or are you all going to hit the LA shows instead?

I live in San Diego. I would have been there in a heartbeat, but instead I will be in Cancun on a vacation that was planned months ago. I'll have to see him in LA. Go to the show and have fun!! :)

I'm still thinking of going even though I live in Moz Angeles and have all those Palladium shows plus I already bought a Santa Barbara ticket.

The thing is, I think one is obligated to buy up the entire table if one wants to be close to the stage.

No one I know is still planning to go to TJ ever since the Palladium shows were announced. TJ is on a work night for most stiffs (Thursday). Urgh, I do not like TJ. It's not crossing the border (into Mexico) that's a pain, it's being in TJ that's a pain.

To get close to the stage in TJ you really think it's the seated table tickets? Nobody I know seems to know which tickets we should try to buy! I certainly don't want those table tickets, but I do want to be close to the stage so I can shake the man's hand (and tell him I love him)!

I don't like TJ either and I wouldn't be going there for anyone else. I wish I could do the 10 show LA package, but it's a little too far for me to drive back and forth (especially if I want to keep my job). :p

Well, maybe you'll change your mind. I'd be happy to see some other border crossers at the show!

Actually, I was thinking of how the Celebrity Showroom (Sparks, NV) was set up, the tables were next to the stage. I thought this because the description of El Foro compared it to casino seating, which was the case for the Celebrity Showroom. However, El Foro's set up seems to be different.

I think we do NOT need a table. The floor tickets appear to be what gets you closer to the stage. Good thing they're not so expensive -- $40...but then there's the service charge. Urgh!

So there IS a presale for this show. TM now lists a presale TOMORROW -- Thursday, Sept. 6.

Great, like there's no other presales going on at 10 am Thursday!

Well, no sense in stressing about it. Hopefully most norte americanos will stay where they is and not buy up the TJ tix. ;)

THANKS FOR THE INFO!!!!!!!!! I haven't been checking Ticketbastard so I didn't know about the presale till now! My friend (who is from TJ) just called the venue and we asked which tix will put us closest to the stage and they said to buy the Floor tickets (Piso gral), not the table ones. Hopefully this guy working at the venue knew what he was talking about!!

Just wondering if anyone got tixs for this show? I thought about it and wonder, are only the box seats for sale and is the floor going to available to buy now or if at all EVER??? Lot's of questions, I know but there seems to be very little infor about this show, so if anyone knows, it will be much appreciated!!

The floor is for sale. It's the $40 ticket.

Somehow I thought I requested the floor, and then when I got to the final screen, it said I had purchased a VIP ticket and that my card was charged $91.40. No way, Jose'!

So I shot off an email about the error, expecting to be refunded. Just in case Ticketbastard decides to really be a bastard about it and not refund me, online I changed the billing address on the credit card I used so that the info will not match the address I gave TM and TM will not be able to process the order. Luckily I have several cards registered with TM so I can still use the other cards to make other orders.

If my change-the-billing address tactic doesn't work and TM is truly a bastard about it, I suppose the worst that could happen is that I get a seat and can move to the floor if I feel like it!

I bought three of the $40 tickets this morning. I think I just used GREATESTHITS as the password. $9.40/ticket was charged as a convenience charge. I think if you do get the VIP tickets you'll get drinks/table service...or something!

Where the hell is this place? I normally park in San Ysidro, and walk across, but really only to the 'pharmacia,' so not too familiar with Ave. Rev. Can you walk there or do you need to take one of the taxis at the bottom of the bridge?

After you walk across the border (if you're parking in San Ysidro) just catch one of the taxis waiting and tell them you want to go to Revolucion Ave...it's the main tourist strip with all the bars, shops, etc. I can't remember how much the taxi ride costs, but it's not very much. You can also walk the 1 or 1.5 miles to Revolucion Ave...I imagine there will be college kids, etc walking back and forth on a Thursday night. But, personally, I would do a taxi instead of walking late at night.

Mel_Torment

Even in a taxi, it's a good idea to travel in a group at night. I think it'll cut down on the risk of getting shook down by la policia and other lawless hooligans.

I'm going to walk from the border to the venue. My lardass could use the exercise, and it should be safe in the daytime. Besides, I wanna see the sights. So Sharron, I'm up for a sharin' a taxi on the way back at night.

Here's a map of how to get to the venue from the border (the foot map is the one where there's a bridge crossing in grey):

I said la policia are lawless or corrupt, not sweet & tender. ; )

The last time I was in Mexico City for Mozzer's first concert in Mexico ever, my host, was pulled over for a very minor traffic violation. It cost him a $35 bribe. Tourists will get shaken down for more, especially if you are alone and prosperous-looking.

I am planning on parking in SD for the show and doing some TJ exploration before the show. I mostly do not want to drive through the border because the lines are horrible coming back and it is much quicker to walk across. Anyone want to potentially do a pre-show meet up? I am not scared or anything, but since I am going alone it would be nice to meet some fellow Mozzy fans willing to brave TJ. I may be contacting a friend who lives in TJ to give a grand tour. Oh and remember to bring your pasaporte.

How funny that you guys are a little scared about "scary TJ", I spent many weekends and summer vacations at my abuelitas house. I rode those taxis with my cuzins every where, and went bar hoping a lot when old enough. I do recommend if not driving into TJ to take a taxi and tell the driver "Al Foro" They know it's on the street we all call " La Revo". I can't make it there on a Thursday with work and my lil' one has socccer practice, but I hope those going enjoy themselves. Be safe, stay in groups, and don't set your drink on the table ;)

i have been to a few shows at el foro. it's not the most comfortable place for a concert since they can really pack you into that small space, but its a nice close intimate setting. i think the last concert i seen there was enrique bunburry. i can't wait for this show, should be good! stay in groups and just be careful out there.

Hey...who you callin' a scaredy cat?! ;) Actually, the only reason I'm not worried is because I'll be going with two guys who grew up in TJ and *claim* to know the ropes ($5 should be enough for your police bribes)! Unfortunately, my TJ memories don't involve happy summers with relatives. Instead, they all seem to involve a car full of 18 yr olds (driven by a DD of course) craning their necks out the windows the entire ride back to the University because, inevitably, someone had puked all over themselves or all over the inside of the car! *shudders*

Seriously though...I can't wait to be there again in 2 weeks. I had to do a happy dance this morning at work after I bought my tickets. Morrissey, I love you!

Thanks everyone for your help. I still don't understand why there is VIP section (BOXES) for around $70 dollars when the floor is so cheap in comparison. Does some of the tables get taken down and turn into the floor when the show starts. I don't understand why the they are also $40 dollars too?

For non-Moz shows, the box seats are better because you can sit your ass down at a table instead of standing up like a pleb. That's why they're priced like that.

I dunno what to make of some Irish-surnamed gringo spoofin' Mexican love for El Mozzer, but I liked some of the touches like the stop-motion pony delivering the challenge and the headline about the vision of La Mozzer de Guadalupe in the plantains at the end.

Of course, I expect the Mexicans at the TJ show will be better dressed than the clowns in the viddy.

A lot of my friends can't go to the show, not because they are scared of TJ, but because of the new passport regulations. I am really wondering whether this factor will keep a lot of Mozzy's American fans out.

re: passport regulations

i've spoken to people at the passport office, and checked online (travel.gov). my passport is expired. they will allow you to enter with one of the following:

- proof of application for passport renewal, AND driver's license. it takes 7-10 days after applying for the passport to be able to print out the form you need as "proof." even if you do it in person, you still have to wait till it processes to the internet. don't ask me why.

- the easier option: driver's license AND document that proves you're a U.S. citizen. in my case, that's my original (no photocopies) birth certificate.

regulations are relaxed still, because of the high demand for passports. if i'm wrong about anything, please do let me know!

I looked on the site, and it seems that you are right. This is what it states...

Do I need a passport to go on a cruise or to travel by vehicle across the land border to Canada or Mexico?

No, but it is recommended that U.S. citizens carry and present government-issued identification when requested. Although not currently required to present a document, U.S. citizens arriving by land and sea must still establish to the satisfaction of the inspecting officer that they are U.S. citizens.

As early as January 2008, the Departments of Homeland Security and State will begin to implement WHTI at land and sea ports of entry. A Notice of Proposed Rule Making outlining a phased implementation is expected to be published in the Federal Register within the next two weeks.

I am not worried because my passport is still good. But, nonetheless, I think this misconception may keep a lot of his American fans from going to the TJ show. In some ways, I kinda hope it does because it will be less crowded and more intimate, which will be a contrast to the LA shows that I usually go to.

So, theboyracer, I'll see you there! I'll give you a call about meeting up. Will you be coming in from L.A. or Phoenix? PM or phone me. Mebbe we can carpool.

Anyroad, I got an email saying that the El Foro tickets are printed and should arrive in the post in a few days. I dunno why, but I'm excited to see the actual ticket. I'm envisioning a fancy, glitter encrusted ticket. It'll probably be one of those boring heat-printed TM deals, but don't wake me when I'm dreaming. I think my brane is caught up in the what the 10 date Palladium package ticket(s) will look like. I'll probably be disappointed...even if it isn't a total clusterfck (which is what I expect). Edit: I mean, I expect the Palladium package with front of the queue privileges, NOT the El Foro show in TJ, to be a clusterfck. TM, Livenation, and TTY have not set a good precedent with misinformation and general dumbfuckery with regard to the press releases and ticketing of the Palladium 10 date package.

If it's hot in the next couple of days, I'll be obsessively checking the post to make sure those heat-printed tickets don't turn black and void!

good morning to everyone

I just want to give everyone some accurate information regarding TJ. I was born and raised and still live in TJ so i can actually give you a little more insight than other people can.

TJ is NOT dangerous, but as in most city's if you are looking for trouble you WILL find it.
You will not be stoped for no apperent reason just so the cops can take your money, but if you are speeding, driving drunk, behaving recklessly, trying to score drugs, etc. please dont expect to get away with anything you would not in your own country. If you do break the law then guess what?? you are problably gona get busted by the cops, if this happens you got 2 choices either you pay your fines or try to bribe the cops, belive me not all cops accept bribes, im my late teens i used to party alot and can testefy to that fact.

Tj also like many cities has good parts of town and bad parts, EL Centro (downtown) i would say is a bad part of town were you will see a lot of poor people and gringos :) sad but true. unfortunently el centro is popular for turist and so tijuana get a pretty bad rap.

for people comming to TJ for the first time if you are only going to the concert i suggest you stick to Revolucion street, that is a pretty safe street for americans, also El Centro is divided into 11 streets, i recommed you stay away from the first 2 streets, that is where you will find hookers and congales (cheap bars with some stripping but mostly prostitution).

If you need more info post here and i will be any questions you might have.

Hope everyone has a good time at the concert!!! I still cant belive he is comming to my home town!! YOU ROCK MORRISSEY

I was kind of sad this summer because I knew I probably wouldn't see HIM again on tour for another year or more, so the announcement of the West Coast shows was like an early Christmas for me! I just hope when I try to claw my way up on stage to hug Morrissey I won't get hauled off to a Mexican prison! :p

First of all, HI EVERYONE. This is my first post here. Been a long time Morrissey-Solo reader.

OMG! This is so ironic. I'm Mexican, I live in Ensenada, some 70 miles south of TJ. I've bought plenty of tickets for San Diego concerts (most recently the Moz show at the embarcadero, and the Smashing Pumpkins for next week), and ticketmaster always has international will call.

The TJ gig has TJ as being in CA, and there's no international will call available. It's only available to US or Canadian residents!!!111!!eleventyone!!1?

Am I doing something wrong? I can't buy tickets for a concert in Mexico, but I can for concerts in the US?

Any mexicans have the same problem?

uhmm weird, i purchased tickets with a credit card that has a mexican address on it and made them will call, i had no problem.
the only problem i did have is when i called the venue they said they are not responsable for will call tickets, so i called ticketmaster and they told me they would have a booth outside the venue on the day of the concert after 12 in the afternoon, heres to wishing TicketMaster dosent screw me over!!!

but you should take the trip to TJ and buy some at the veneu i think they still have some available, dont wait to long or you will probably miss the show.

Hi Puggy,
Are you sure you can't just click on the Will Call option even though it is listed under US Customers? I would think as long as you have the credit card and/or identification that matches the name on the tickets, you should be able to buy the tickets and pick them up at Will Call. Perhaps you could call Ticketmaster before driving all the way to TJ? Good luck!

Puggy
September 14, 2007, 02:21 AM
Hey mell. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

After I select the US Only Will call, I get taken to the Billing Address page (even though I have an account on Ticketmaster). On the Country box, USA is preselected and can't be changed. Besides the box it says: "Address in a different country? Choose a delivery method for your area." And that takes me to the delivery methods that include only US and Canada...

Very weird. I'll call Ticketmaster later.

Thanks!

Hi Guys...I'm back in the States! It's 2AM and I need to go to bed, but just wanted to let you guys know this is not the real setlist. The setlist posted at the top of the show on the main page (provided by sdsuedehead) is the real one. I am crazy and wrote a letter to Morrissey and I was waving it around for the first half of the show and he seemed like he kept ignoring it. Plus, I was maybe a little too far back. At one point he glanced at it and seemed to have a momentary look of curiosity on his face. Anyway...took about half the show before I got close enough to the stage and he finally knelt down and leaned forward and asked "is that for me???" and scrunched up his nose. I nodded and seemed to lose the ability to think or speak. I was not close enough to hand it directly to him so a few people passed it forward and when he took it, he rubbed it over his sweaty face and then slid it into his front pocket. I almost died!!!! If anyone has a video of this, please, please post it. I would be forever greatful.

I'll try to write more tomorrow, but it was a great freaken show. The venue was a confusing mess outside but the venue was pretty small and the stage was low enough for a ton of people to rush the stage at the end. He ended the show wearing the Chivas jersey (think it was the jersey, the red and white striped one?) and it looked like it had autographs on the back. Possibly the band's autographs? I couldn't tell. He threw it into the crowd at the end. I got a few of the band guy's autographs after the show in back before they left in their van but didn't get to see Morrissey leave the building. Don't know if he left through a side door instead....

ok nite y'all. I might be able to write something more coherent in the morning. Oh yeah, a guy I talked to briefly out back said he got to the venue early and didn't see Julia there at all...I was kind of surprised. Did anyone else see her?? I don't think I heard Morrissey say her name at all during the show.

oh one more thing. Moz looked GREAT tonight. He looked svelte!

Awesome show. Was expecting the same setlist as SD in July, but immediately knew we were in for a special night when London started. Damn, what a wonderful show.

Loved the stage rushers. Loved the comic relief. Loved the setlist. Loved the crowd.

But I'm also embarrased by El Jefe being stopped by the Policia.

Loved when he said that we could see him in "Revolución" selling watermelons, cantaloupes, in a bicycle. haha.

It was so cool how he helped many get on stage. And how he grabbed two letters, and the whole rubbing them in sweat and putting them in his crotch.

This TOTALLY made up for the SD disaster.

I've been wondering that too. Knowing how he likes to tinker with lyrics he hasn't sung in a while, it's probably some combination of those two version, and don't be surprised if he skips entire verses. I'm not complaining about him omitting lyrics, it's sounds like I am, and well I have no defense for that, it certainly does sound like I am whining about something irrelevant. :p

What is with the response of most people saying they don't care for London and Disco Dancer but are going nuts for Stretch Out and Wait? I knew the former two weren't fan favorites (though I love them both and look forward to hearing them both live), but I thought the latter wasn't that popular either. I like it too and thought the clip of it sounded good and I'm looking forward to hearing that as well, but that is the setlist addition I could care less about. Or maybe Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself. I really don't see why everyone adores that song so much. The electric demo is great, and the album version is okay, but I don't like the Introducing Morrissey version (never heard a bootleg of it from the Maladjusted tour so that is the only performance I can judge how it sounds live by). I hope they play it differently, closer to the demo version.

my opinion has always been that You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby suffered from Gannonitis....

They decided NOT to release it as a single...because Craig Gannon was involved in the recording of it...

being stuck on the album (World Won't Listen..later Louder Than Bombs)....resulted in less money having to be paid to him...

The song is definitely Underrated and one of my all time Smiths favorites

I never thought of that. I always just figured they really liked Shoplifters a lot more, because we all know how much Morrissey loves it and Marr has also spoken positively of it. But now that you point that out it seems rational. I agree that it is definitely underrated.

It used to be that bands would get royalties from songs being played on the radio...don't know if that's still done (like 8 cents every time or something)...and if Craig played on You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby....they would have been required to split that with him....

An epic song, backed by a laconic bass part, and an outlandish performance from drummer Joyce. Morrissey's cynical lyrics decay into a mad clash of instruments, famously featuring Morrissey's only credit other than words (his piano "playing", i.e. random bashing about on the keys)...

I believe Moz didn't play the piano last night, but I couldn't tell from where I was standing.

I'd be scared to go to the show in TJ... i dont speak espanoly... maybe some corrupt cops would kidnap me and force me to work the donkey shows. Viva Mexico!

Hey guys I am from tijuana !!
and I have spent all my years here, and let me tell you, that tijuana is not like all the people think, nobody is going to kidnap you and cops are corrupt at any place just don't mess with them, of course they are going to take some teenagers that are causing some problems at the clubs when they drink a lot and they trying to have sex at some clubs or the ladies that take off their clothes and end up at a corner throwing up (I hate the idea of people who thinks tijuana is just sex drugs and alcohol does not true, in all my 30 years nobody has kidnapped me or hurt me..)
there are alot of tourist who come everyday, actually where Morrissey was, is a very famous tourist zone full of restaurants and clubs (here never and will never exist that donkey show that all the people say), the only donkeys I know are the ones where people take pictures wearing a hat.

Talking about the concert was greattt, the place was full, he loves mexicans as he said in an interview I saw at youtube..
That place of the concert is a famous building from here itused to be a place where they play fronton (famous sport from Spain) , now is used for concerts.
in the concert there were a lot of people from the states I should say half of the people was american.

I think the best way to get there if you guys need it in the future is taking those mexicoach that are going to the plaza de las americas, that can take you to the revolution street, because those yellow cabs are soo expensive.

This TOTALLY made up for the SD disaster.

at the beginning he said that he speaks española instead of spanish lol not bad he will improve it living in La, something that really surprise me is he wearing a chiva's t- shirt(famous mexican soccer team), that means he loves mexican soccer :D... he throw that one to the people (was signed)
he throw another 3 shirts, and I have a piece of the gray one :D

Just some things to add:

Here is a piccy of the venue --
http://www2.gol.com/users/melemail/stuff/ElForo.jpg

I didn't try to smuggle in a camera. I just wanted to enjoy the show. I didn't even take in my mobile phone because I was afraid they might stop me from getting to the barrier by arguing with me that camera phones aren't allowed. Security was very tight. THe guard (female) felt up my boobs and lifted them up. I was wearing a good support bra -- it's not like they're floppy! No, I wasn't wearing the greatest tits shirt, just a modest Fred Perry.

I was rather disappointed that no cheap 'n' cheesy bootleg souvenirs were to be had outside the venue on blankets like in Mexico City 2002. Guess I'll have to make my own. I made some devotional Moz candles in the style Mexicans are fond of -- Santo Morrissey, La Voz Sagrada de Morrissey, and Handsome Devil:

Haha...same thing for me. I felt like I got a gyno exam and a mammogram from the security lady!!! Good news...no lumps! We tried to sneak in a disposable camera in my friend's purse pocket and they found it and gave us a good lecturing in Spanish. I guess they didn't check the guys' crotches as closely.

Hey Mel, I'm just curious about the Julia thing. Was she there? Moz didn't talk to her or say her name at the show, did he? I had some trouble hearing some of the things he said at times, but I was right behind the people he shoved the mic to when he asked if they knew who the guy was on the background. If Julia had been there I'd figure he have asked her if she knew...

Anyway...Best Show Ever! I loved it!!! Viva Mexico!

Hi, Mell, good to hear that no lumps were found! :p

Contrary to the anonymous rumours, Julia was there. Strangely, she actually stood in the queue in TJ. Lately, she just shows up to the venue a little before doors and someone from Morrissey's staff lets her in early so that she doesn't have to queue. It's not like she stands in the queue all day, though. She just walks to the front of the queue and claims her entitled space. I'm somewhat envious, but I always make it to the front if I bother to queue and she hardly takes up any space. I also have to say that she certainly has put in her time, sleeping out in the cold dark streets like a houseless person for several tours. And it's not like she can't afford a posh hotel! You know it's love and true dedication.

In TJ she was standing to the right of center stage (more on the Mikey Farrell side). He mentioned her name once. Moz hasn't been handing her the mic for a couple of shows. The 2nd time Moz gave me the mic, I realised that Moz didn't give Julia the mic that night -- Myrtle Beach.

Oh I'm definitely envious too, but I'm not a Julia hater at all. If she has the time and the means to do what she does, then good for her!! I wonder if she ever gets tired of it? It requires so much traveling and putting her own life on hold...Moz should just hire her to work in his crew already! haha j/k. I probably didn't help but perpetuate the rumor that she wasn't there...I heard from a guy who said he's met Moz 10x or more and gotten to go backstage, etc. He said Julia wasn't there and he didn't see her in the queue or up at the barrier. And I didn't hear Moz say her name or talk to her like he usually does...then again, I did miss the whole "selling fruits on a bicycle" joke too! *slaps forehead*
