That's excellent I.R, did you get the Bigmouth signed personally by Moz also?
Went to see Johnny and The Healers at the Deaf Institute in Manchester last night.
Excellent gig, The Smiths songs sounded fantastic and his new material sounds pretty good too. Looking forward to listening to studio versions.
Met Johnny after the gig. He is an absolute gentleman, a really nice guy.
It was a real pleasure to get to meet him after all these years, an occasion I will never forget.

Signed all these for me too... :)

Thank you mr m.
Unfortunately Moz did not sign the sleeve personally for me.
A number of Bigmouth sleeves were signed by Moz for promotional purposes at the time of release, way back in 1986.
Still very happy with it, if fact it has become the most treasured item in my entire collection! :)

Attended a record fair yesterday and was totally disappointed, in fact the Doctor Who exhibition next door was a lot more interesting (expensive but worth a visit). Anyway I did pick up a few things.

The Smiths - Strangeways Aussie (CBS) LP
The Smiths - This charming Man Aussie 7" (the sleeve is split but for £2 I couldn't resist)
The Smiths - Complete US cd promo
Morrissey - Suedehead Aussie 7"

I was also offered the set of Complete UK cd-r promos for £80, which I declined and now regret :(

Is this the brown cover? They have some @ the record store in red colored/numbered vinyl numbered to 100. I saw 4 copies there(3 minus mine). I also saw the "Old Guard BBC Tapes, pt 2" also in colored vinyl(I want to say Blue).

They looked cool.....

Any interest in a red colored vinyl one(like the one in the pic-Morrissey reader meet Author Boot-numbered to 100-limited edition)? I have one and will trade it for a RSD TQID 10"

My collection is pretty small for how much I love The Smiths (I don't even own physical copies of all the official albums yet).
Stuff from this/the last couple of weeks includes:

The Smiths - Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now ('88 CD single, RTT 156CD)
The Smiths - Sheila, Take A Bow ('87 German mini-album CD, LICD 9.00308 L) <---Cheap! :D
The Smiths - Unreleased Demos & Instrumentals (2x clear blue LP, bootleg, SBTR 1707)
And, just last night, a cassette lot which included the The Smiths s/t, though I haven't yet seen it up close to give the particulars of it...

I also bought [and kind of got really ripped the f**k off on] a copy of MIM w/ original (beat-up) longbox... and the so-called "EX condition" CD was riddled with pinholes... :(
Still, I like staring at the longbox on my wall. :lbf:

Also, the CD plays in my stereo fine, I just wish I were capable of getting an accurate, lossless rip of it (I like to rip most of my CD's for the sake of having a backup, plus the convenience of portability, and I am very anal-retentive about having accurate, lossless copies).

What's the room where it is?

I bought it folded and in a bag, so it's not like my neighbors had to see me carrying it or anything. It takes up an entire wall in my room! I collect Morrissey posters and had to do some rearranging to get this to fit.

Hi Stoned, that is a good buy. I bought my copy about three years ago and paid £105 for it (I think?), although at least I didn't have to pay postage as I had arranged to meet the dealer in London. The prices on these varies a lot, I've seen one fetch over two hundred. That's ebay for you.

A bargain at £15? I think so. :)

Definitely a bargain - it just shows that if you hold off and don't rush out to be the first to buy these promo / advance releases, that you can generally pick them up later for reasonable money. I say 'generally' because the fear we all have is that if we don't buy it straight away then we may never see another...

Well done

I went to the "ghetto" mall on the "bad side of town" tonight out of boredom, and in hopes of finding some decent, cheap music since the FYE there has one of the better used selections compared to every other music chain store in town and found a copy of the [unofficial] "The Queen Is Dead: A Classic Album Under Review" DVD on sale.

I have not heard of it prior to tonight, so I don't know if it's any good, but I'm still excited to view it and happy to have something else for my collection.

She framed it herself - with some help from a neighbour who is a dab hand with a Mac - the type font was chosen as it looks like the font used for Strangeways....

They debated whether or not to include the ticket... I'm going to remove it :)

No 1942 I wouldnt have spent money in the present climate on myself, but my son's and wife chipped in so it's a lovely thing, or as the chap in Piccadilly records said to my son when he told him it was a Christmas present for his dad, "the coolest thing he'd ever heard."

Do you reckon they will release an SPM58 in a few years time? It should be worth at least twice as much. :D

Mikael, that is incredible...how many different copies of Viva Hate must actually exist for you to have so many?! Surely there can't be many (if any) that you don't have now?

Probably the last of the big buys for me for a while...

Aly, I see you're in Australia. Did you find your stuff in stores or on the Internet?

Entirely online, unfortunately - which is a bit rough when the cost of postage to Australia is always so exorbitant. :( I do frequent the local record shops just in case, but there's very rarely any Morrissey or Smiths releases to be found aside from the recent CD releases and the odd copy of one of the remastered Smiths vinyls from 2008.

Lovely buys there, I.R.! I especially love those 'Complete' CD-Rs...haven't seen very many of those around at all.

As for the Universal Music Publishing Group CD-R though, does yours have a glossy insert or plain paper one? I'm a little curious because the texture on mine is just plain paper and I'd always assumed that, being in a jewel case rather than a plastic sleeve, it would have been a glossy one... I don't know much about these things though, admittedly. :o

Quoted for agreement... I mean, I like to have hard copies of stuff, so... It's worth it to me to buy stuff if don't have a hard copy of it already (that said, the constant RE-bootlegging of the same shit does get pretty tiresome, especially when it means wading through a sea of poor/mediocre copies of releases with a mix of the same fucking material and 50th-generation tape transfers*... The hunt for the best version of "this" or "that" can be very frustrating at times).

I am mostly interested in vinyl and pro-CD live bootlegs, but, I mean, that seems like a pretty nice package (especially since I don't have hardcopies of a lot of the material contained on it)... But sound quality is certainly an issue of importance..... please, let me (if no one else cares) know how it sounds... :)

*Speaking of which, a perfect example: I'd suck some serious dick for a copy of Napalm Death's "Hatred Surge" demo on vinyl... I have heard samples of that record, and the quality is the best I've heard anywhere. The late-gen tape rip version floating around everywhere online sounds like shit...

FWIW, Napalm Death has no original members... and none of the people on the Hatred Surge demo... Why people buy new "Napalm Death" records, IDK.... But, whether you like the music or not, I do. I think it's kind of silly to compare HS-era Napalm Death with anything they have done in the last 20+ years, or whatever other heavily-overproduced and super-polished modern "Grindcore" you are thinking of, which certainly aren't likely to be on major labels anyway (and isn't Moz the one who refuses to go Indie/DIY anyway?)

Anyway, I like lots of stuff. :)

10" reissues of the debut album & Hatful of Hollow:

This charming man - German 12"
The world won't listen - Portuguese LP

And a few unlicensed cassettes, just because I have a thing for tapes:
Viva Hate from Saudi Arabia, plus Polish versions of Your Arsenal and "Vauxhall and J". ;)

Some really nice items there Aly, so well done! :thumb:
Particularly on finding the Suedehead 3" cd, which does not come up for sale all that often.
I really like that Polish Your Arsenal cassette (I haven't got that one, and now I want it...it's all your fault!). :)

Is the front cover the same?

From PJLM:

Japan CD [Toshiba EMI TOCP-6635]
The front artwork looks like the American cd variation with orange album title, but the text is positioned slightly lower and the catalogue number was added in a small black font in the bottom right corner.

I can't believe I didn't even realise that photo was in there...the moment I saw the picture you posted, I rushed off to grab my copy to check if the non-promo editions feature it too, and there it was... *slaps forehead* I only remembered seeing the other ones inside the booklet, which unless I'm mistaken, are small versions of many of the promo photos from the same era.

Anyway. ;) Finally!

The Smiths: Songs That Changed Your Life (6 CD/DVD boxset)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Smiths-Songs-That-Changed-Your/dp/B004V0VIBU/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1328447467&sr=1-1

I was talking about this a few pages ago, and it arrived in the mail yesterday. A few posters foolishly inferred this was a slapdash boxset with a bunch of inferior torrent rips

those posters have obviously never laid a hand on this beauty, because they couldn't have been more wrong.

A bootleg set, yes. But as far as bootleg sets go, this is assuredly one of the holy grails of Smiths bootlegs. Five cds packed with complete live shows, bbc sessions and vinyl-only rarities, the complete Troy Tate sessions, each with well over 70 minutes of music, and offering MUCH better sound quality than any bootleg of these shows or recordings I've ever heard or owned previously. The sound has either been cleaned up immensely or the bootlegger has managed to get their hands on the best audio recording of each show or recording out there

The true gem of the set, however, is the sixth disc...the DVD. Packed with over four hours of Smiths goodness, including rare television appearances, music videos and THREE complete live shows from various stages in the band's career. The Madrid show has some footage breakup here and there, which I knew about before purchase, but it is minor and infrequent and is remedied by the BEST quality footage of this show I have yet to see

As if that weren't enough, the boxset design itself is fantastic, featuring a flip-top case, personalized disc art, personalized sleeves for each disc, and a 32-page booklet packed with rare photos/promo flyers/articles on the band, plus an extensive and well-rounded essay on the Smiths and the contents of the box. There are even quotes from the band and other famous musicians in homage of the Smiths, as well as selected lyrics from the band's songs

All in all, an absolute jewel in the canon of Smiths bootlegs, well worth the $75-100 you will pay for it. You really can't call yourself a true diehard fan of The Smiths unless you own this, as it adds several incredible "off-the-beaten-trail" chapters to the band's legacy in pristine form/presentation

Well, first of all it was 13 euros and not pounds, in the second place it was a gift. And on Amazon.com it's 13 dollars, plus shipping costs to Germany it's about 12 euros, so I don't care.

I particularly like those German 7" records in alternative colours. I still need one more to complete the set, Sheila in white.

As for the US Greatest Hits CD, I believe they are all like that when new. The strip is actually a sticker, it comes affixed to the shrink-wrap (when the CD is factory sealed).

Cheers,

Hi I.R.

I'm also after the German white Sheila 7" to complete my set collection.

It surprises me why that Sandie Shaw single is of so little interest to us collectors. I've got a stickered promo of the 7" in perfect condition and it only cost me £1 :p

Hmmm

I paid 7 USD for mine on Amazon about a year ago. Maybe it's doubled in value since then; we all know how much his fanbase just loves YOR :/

But you can't put a price on a gift because that's kindness at work, so...cheers
