Treated myself to a Korean 'Quarry'
Problem is, it's still sealed and the sticker on the sleeve is written in Korean, I don't want to loose the sticker, but I do want to fondle the alternative sleeve... Grrrrr!

Get it opened Dave, you know it makes sense... :lbf:

Dave,

Just use a sharp knife and open the shrink wrap at the open side. You won't lose your sticker and you would be able to fondle the alternative sleeve. I know it works this way because I did it with my own copy a long time ago.

Good luck, Marcel

Finally bought a What Difference Does it Make (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220602936251&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT) poster on ebay the other week

Unfortunately it's creased twice - but how often do you see these come up for sale (http://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=smiths+what+difference+ poster&thumbs=&currsel=&x=0&y=0)?

Flax has worked his photoshop magic and made it beautiful again :)

I'm still looking for TCM, William, Shakespeare and Bigmouth - if anyone has one they'd sell please let me know.

Nice find, well done :thumb:
Just as a matter of historical interest (and I don't wish to start you on another desperate quest) but were there ever any official promo posters featuring the replacement Morrissey cover?
Nice Flax work too. Do you reckon he could make my creases disappear too? ;)

Hi Joe
As far as I know there were no 12"x24" What Difference promo posters with Morrissey on them - I've never seen one at least. There were much larger subway posters made, like this one from Morrissey Madness
http://www.morrisseymadness.co.uk/100_3176.jpg

Compared to the Stamp cover http://www.morrisseymadness.co.uk/100_3175.jpg

If only Flax could iron out human creases as well - I'd be acrss the Atlantic like a shot.

Hi Mr Pimp
Thanks for the links.
It's the 12x24 promo posters that I'm interested in - the first 3 links are for someone in Hungary that knocks off fake stuff - she's open about it, doesn't try fobbing it off as kosher. I actually bought one of the QiD posters as I thought it was good.

The Morrissey ones don't really appeal - not my bag.

Cheers

I got THE last one (only one?) from HMV Japan. I was told they only had one in stock when I ordered it. I have no idea what is going on but just got lucky. I was only on their webpage to order the Japanese YOR. I really didn't know what was going to turn up but I thought it was worth the gamble :D

Passions states the 12" is gatefold, Vulgar picture has pictures of 7" gatefold although the back of sleeve looks like an ordinary single the way the card is folded, this is a good one.
Mikael come and sort this one out.

Searched everywhere i can think of, there is no mention anywhere of a 7" gatefold version of friends except on vulgar picture.

There's even a promo poster on ebay that states 12" gatefold but no mention of 7"

Anyone actually got a gatefold 7"? If not what is that a picture of its clearly different to the 12" (font size)?

June 10, 2010, 07:10 PM
As far as I know there is no 7" gatefold version for HOTYF, the 12" release is certainly a gatefold but the 7" comes in a standard sleeve.
My view is that the scan in Vulgar Picture is of the inner photo for the CD single included in the 91-95 box set re-release from the year 2001.

Of course, only Flax can confirm with 100% certainty the origin of that scan.

Cheers,

Score of a lifetime today!

Nothing too uncommon other than the Still Ill 12".
Still, I'm not complaining. Finding a stash like this at a record store in America just doesn't happen.
Someone dropped off their whole collection and it went to the bins just before I got to the store. A couple of the guys that work there know me and got really excited when they saw me walk in. (It was like, "I've got a surprise for you".)
and they're all in immaculate, nearly unplayed condition.

Anyone know of any other like the Dagenham Dave one though for other releases?

I got it through a dealer in Bangkok that tracked it down from another dealer that worked at EMI and is now in Australia, that he said owed him a favor. I paid $170.00, which included insurance and tracking shipping. I have been looking for one for a long time and I am very happy with it. We should start an owners list of these to see who all owns one. I forget, do you remember how many were supposed to be pressed?

Hi Roky,

There is no such thing as a My Love Life 7" in a card sleeve, this single was originally released in a paper sleeve only.
The only exception to this is of course the version included in the '7" Singles 1991 to 1995' box set released last year.

Hope this helps...

Thanks IR,
I thought I remember Mikael saying something about it having a card sleeve to. Maybe I was thinking about another 7".

BTW, I wonder how much that German ST Smiths multi color LP will go for? It is the 2nd one this month. The last one went for like $745.00. About two weeks ago. To much dough for me.

Anyway this I couldn't believe. On the cdandlp.com site, someone was selling a US Maladjusted LP. It was all in French so I couldn't read it. But I saw a word that looked like sealed and it was $12.00. I thought it was probably a sealed CD, but I took the gamble. Low and behold, today it showed in the mail, sealed and pretty. I will never open it. The other two I got off the bay, $14.57 for both. Certain People and Hold On 12"s in G condition. I am also waiting for a Aussi World Won't Listen gatefold I got from cdlp and it was $16.00
Needless to say it was a great buying week for me.:thumb:

Jeez - the seller got a good deal with that one! He knows what he's got and made the most out of it - but £45 is far too much to pay for that record.

The trick is to be patient and to ask questions to those who are selling the record as a standard 12" - ask about the matrix number. From my experience, I only had to ask about 5 sellers before mine turned up. And I've helped a couple of other solo-ers do the same thing - you don't have to ask too often before you find it - let's face it, most people listening won't hear the difference so won't know they have an alternate version.

I suspect that this is all that the seller did and then turned it round for a tidy profit - I doubt he paid more than £10-£15 for it.

Well, reference CDs seems about as scarce as Morrissey test pressings. I've no idea where .X. got all his reference CDs from but encore records once had a 3" Interlude for sale so perhaps there's more than one. The only "old" CD-R that seems to have been sent out as a promo is the chop-em-out one for Satan, hence it's listed on Passions. I was lucky to get one not too long ago.

Similar ones detailed here http://www.encorerecords.com/detail.aspx?productid=98223 and here http://www.encorerecords.com/detail.aspx?productid=98232 both of these include Smiths tracks. One for the complete completists me thinks.

Dave it's exactly what you've said. I've asked Flax about it recently and he's told me that this version (5'30'') is only available on this LP, then it's an important item for a collector.

I've just seen that this LP is listed on Passions http://www.passionsjustlikemine.com/disc/smiths-dcomp.htm

I'd be interested to know more - is this an unbroadcast Peel session, is it a remix of an otherwise broadcast Peel session, is it a longer / shorter version of something that we've all got?

Any extra info from Stephane or Flax or anyone else would be much appreciated.

Cheers

That version of "How Soon Is Now?" is an edit of the long version. Not a radio session. I expect that it was done by the radio show, not the band. I haven't listened to it in years, but I don't remember anything special about it. Could be just an early fade. I should dig around, I may have a MP3 of it somewhere.

The UK Buzz series was a show where John Peel would play British music for the American market. Those LPs are actually the transcription discs. Unfortunately the show wasn't a hit and stopped about after about a dozen I think.

UK Buzz #001 had Sandie Shaw's "Hand In Glove", #004 this version of "How Soon Is Now?" and #005 had a live version of "Meat Is Murder" (the b-side version).

Thanks Stephane - as ever, a mine of useful info.

If you find the MP3 it would be great if you could share it - in googling it I found an old thread on Smiths Torrents from 2006 where someone listed it as one of the versions they hadn't managed to find http://www.smithstorrents.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=523&sid=cac28255e51c49639c7c6a3bcd694db3

Hey Stephane, here is an mp3 file I have, which was not made from my LP. Right now I can't record vinyls on my computer, but I'll be able too do it soon.

Hey Peter, I don't think Windows Media Player will let you edit the mp3 tags.

You might need to get iTunes for this.

If you do get iTunes, here are the steps:

For multiple tracks:

1) Select the tracks you want to add artwork to:
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/9390/19939764.png

2) Hit "Ctrl + i" ("command + i" on a mac) on your keyboard and a window with the details about the song will pop up. Then you drag the JPG into that little Artwork square:
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8466/47096526.png

3) Hit OK, smile and dance:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8862/83846731.png

For single tracks:

1) Select the track you want to add artwork to:
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1614/44151859.png

2) Hit "Ctrl + i" ("command + i" on a mac) on your keyboard.
Go to the Artwork tab on the top right and drag the JPG into big white box:
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/8581/16322601.png

3) Hit OK, smile and dance again (except that you wouldn't be able to dance to an interview disc):

That's probably because your Windows has the Media Player as your default mp3 player. You can change that by right-clicking the file > properties > Opens with > Change...

And maybe clicking the option to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

The seller explained that this t-shirt was given to crew members at the Ally Pally gig last November and I have no reason to disagree.

I was there and this t-shirt was not available at the official merchandise stall or outside the venue.

Either way, I believe this is a really original design and a great memento of that fantastic night.

I have one from Chicago 2007 with the name of the local lighting and rigging company on the front and Morrissey on the back.

Yes, another copy of this album on vinyl I am afraid.
Don't even ask why, I now own 10 different versions of this album on vinyl alone.

I was pleasantly surprised though, when I found that the text colour on the front and back covers is aqua/turquoise as opposed to the standard grey.

I wasn't even aware of this particular variation as I had never seen one before.

Very happy with this latest addition, 10 copies from various countries and they are all different. :thumb:

All the songs sound great. It is not just louder, the mix is better. "Piccadilly" is the extended version, "Please Help The Cause" is Moz only, no piano."Oh Phoney" is a version we have never heard, I really like it, I will just say it has no drums. "Let The Right One" is a jewel, extended and very rocking.

Great record, sounds great, mixed well, and two songs most of us have never heard until now, including me. Which are "Phoney" and "Slip In"

Well?

The other difference is "Ouija Board". It is edited down. The whole part "The table is rumbling" all the way to " P-U-S-H-O double F" is edited out. The song has about 45 seconds edited out of it. That is the other thing.

Just makes me think of Kathy Burke sitting on that old fridge...

Is this an edit of the original or a different take all together?

It sounds like it is in line with live versions of the song
http://www.passionsjustlikemine.com/lyrics/moz-obob.htm

5 When Morrissey did this song live on the 2000 half of the Oye Esteban tour the band always played the instrumental portion that follows this line, but Morrissey never did the vocals. He only hummed or sang "the glass is moving" and "the dark spell is weaving" and didn't spell out his name.

Hmmm not sure how I feel about this... can't wait to hear the album, it will be great to hear new versions of old songs, but to mess about with such a classic by just cutting it short...

Yeah, that's a bit disappointing. It'll be nice to hear the edit but I'm pretty certain I'll prefer the original. How's that for keeping an open mind? Ha!

Does anyone have any theories as to why "Let the Right One..." is on this version of Bona Drag? Seems so out of place.

Dave

Hi Dave,
It is an edit of the original. It goes from the very first "The table is rumbling" and then "Well she has now gone"
Hope this helps

Their is no way they made 200 of that "This Charming Man" promo! I have seen tons on ebay. Either they lied about how many were made or someone is bootleging them. Funny that Vinly Exhange has one for 50 pds and I saw one on ebay last night for 10pds.

If I remember correctly, the first 200 orders from Recordstore came with the promo, I know that others were sent out to the usual people for promotional purposes. so who knows how many were made?

I also think Vinyl Exchange had three of them for sale for £50, but that was when they first came out and I for one thought they would be quite sought after, I guess I was wrong :D

I think the seller lifted the photo and description from the listing of the one you bought.
Nothing wrong with that in my opinion, I've done it in the past myself when I couldn't be bothered to take photos, etc.

The seller contacted me after I paid expressing surprise about the fact that the disc was sold 3 minutes after he listed it!

Can't wait to have it in my hands now... :)

Nice.

Either way, it's one of my favourites Moz items as it combines my two greatest obsessions - Morrissey and Motorbikes :)

Thanks Dave.
Not sure how rare it is but the standard one, which is widely available, has 2 tracks.
This version is a mis-pressing, Interesting Drug being the only track on it.
It doesn't come up for sale very often but I wouldn't know how many were mis-pressed.
As far as I know, none of the etched discs have the 3 tracks on.
Standard = 2 tracks, mis-pressing = 1 track.

I still need the one etched single that is mis-pressed with just one song, and an etched with a white sticker. If anyone has one to sell, please PM me. Lovely quality packaging. Unlike Decca, no inner sleeves which is a shame in one way (less artwork), but in another way, not (you can actually get at the actual disc!)
Both vinyls are deliciously heavyweight.

Just watched the 'enhanced' content. As expected Enhanced CD (when did they change the name from CD-ROM?!) material is quite poor quality, when compared with what we could have had on a DVD single. It's smashing to have the 'Top of the Pops' appearance, even in lo-fi blocky e-cd quality. But could've been better.
I never noticed before - I was too busy focusing on that imperious pompadour - but he has a vintage white hearing aid dangling from beneath his suit jacket. Cute little nod to the past. It's swinging away down at his knees throughout the performance!
