Dear David,
I think it would help a lot of people who use your site if you could please explain your views on posters being allowed to post racist &/or homophobic threads &/or replies?
love

Grim, he believes that it's acceptable as it's 'freedom of speach' to allow racism and homophobia (unless it's racism directed at him). If you get any reply from him, I guarantee that's what he'll say.

The terms of use of the site are clearly stated in the TOS (http://www.morrissey-solo.com/tos.shtml). Users who violate any of these terms are banned. The interpretation can be a gray area, so sometimes users are warned before being banned.
The site is a medium, the people who post are responsible for their own posts.
If you have a specific issue, you need to post specific links and what in the TOS is being violated and the moderators will take action as appropriate. We get a lot of vague requests and people who have personal issues that are not necessarily strict violations of the TOS.

When I posted this open letter to you David, I'd followed procedure by doing a report post (more than one actually). But since the poster has now been banned it seems that the moderation system is working (albeit on rather a go-slow system). I did get a reply from a mod' telling me that there was a problem at 1st with the points system, which I accept but that was also sent after I posted this open letter.
Secondly, I would assume that any abuse made against a particular poster would be a personal issue though & if it is reported to a mod' or yourself then it shouldn't be treated as "vague" but I'm not privvy to what is reported nor any outcomes. That's why I think it might be more transparent if there was a thread to show what moderation is done including the actions taken.
Thank you for your reply.

I think that's probably the main problem with the forums. The level of personal 'abuse' if that's not too strong a word that's acceptable here seems way, way higher than on most other forums online where flaming is not permitted anywhere near the level it is on here, and as a result happens far more frequently. Compared to the other forums I read and post on there are so, so many more personal attacks on here - and often for no clear reason - than else where because this is the only place where you can get away with it.
Personally, I think that if parts of the TOS were harsher then that would result in ultimately a 'nicer' and more popular forum. And if the harsher TOS was introduced then there could always be "No Holds Barred" section of the board where you could flame away on whoever.
EDIT: For example, the user 'mike joyce' started a thread in Other Music called something along the lines of The Only Three Bands Who Ever Mattered, and in that thread someone pointed out that he'd only picked his three favourite bands rather than actually objectivly start a discussion about bands that 'matter' and as part of his reply he said he didn't pretend to like bands like the Beatles like...
...you stupid fucking cunts do, you bunch of fucking cunts"
Now under the TOS I understand that the user has none nothing wrong by posting this. I do not for the life of me see how that is acceptable to post. Not because I'm offended by it, but because I do not understand how that encourages discussion and debate, how that encourages other people to join the forums and post, and how it does anything positive at all for the forums? Surely posting that should be unacceptable and result in some forum of 'punishment' from the mods?

look, it is simple; now that people like mspendl828 know how they can exploit the current interpretations of the rules then they shall do so and encourage others to do so
Because you would never dream of insulting other members or, say, accuse them of illegal activities, would you Robby?

Since YOU didn't give the infraction I hardly need, or care, to hear anything from you.
An infraction for "BS reports" given on 3/21/07 has NOTHING, repeat, NOTHING to do with a thread created on 1/31/07...and if it DOES then that is just BAD moderating...being nearly 2 months too late and all.
